Method for making a polygonal section hole in a workpiece on an automatic lathe and device for implementing this method. An object of the present invention is a method for making on an automatic lathe a hole of polygonal section in a part, characterized in that the workpiece is drilled with a hole of which. the diameter is approximately equal to that of the inscribed circle of the poly gone and that the hole is then chambered with a chamber rotating freely with the part.
Another object of the invention is a positive device for implementing this method, a device characterized in that it comprises a chamber holder shaft mounted by means of bearings in a bearing, so that the chamber holder can rotate freely. with the workpiece.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention, in a longitudinal section. The single figure also illustrates an embodiment of the method according to the invention.
In the drawing, we denote by 1 a workpiece clamped in a mandrel. there is a clamp 2 of an automatic lathe, for example of a turning lathe.
It is shown a lodger 3 whose active part has la. same polygonal section as the hole to be made in part 1, in this case a section. square. The handle 4 of the chamber is fitted in a borehole 5 of a part 6 of enlarged diameter, of a chamber holder shaft 7. Said handle is supported by means of a ball 8 on the bottom of the borehole 5. It also has a flat 9 on which takes a retaining screw 10 screwed into the. part 6.
The shaft 7 is mounted in a bearing 11 by means of two ball bearings 12, which are oblique and arranged symmetrically with respect to a transverse plane. The shaft 7 is fitted slidably in the inner rings 13 of these bearings 12. These inner rings 13 are elastically pressed against the ball crowns of the bearings by domed spring disks 14, in the form of a star, by turning. the shaft 7 and one against the part 6 of this shaft,]. 'the other against one of two nuts 15 screwed on the threaded rear part 16 of the same shaft.
In the drawn position, in which the lodger 3 does not yet engage the. workpiece 1, the two springs 14 are slightly pressurized by means of the nuts 15 and their effects counterbalance each other.
In work piece 1, we have. already drilled a hole 17 of which. the diameter is approximately equal to that of the circle inscribed with the square formed by the cross section of the hole to be made in said part 1.
In addition, we have. already, pointed at 18 this round hole 17.
If the holder is now supported on the pointed part 18 (by advancing the whole of the device described), the holder 3 is allowed to center itself on the holes 17, 18, the bearings 12 adapting to themselves to a possible slight misalignment. As soon as the lodger has taken on the workpiece, it rotates freely with the workpiece 1., rotating the entire moving part of the device. When applying the chambering thrust on the recess 3, the res comes out 14 disposed between the part 6 and the inner ring 13 of the adjacent bearing 12. flattens out and hold-down 3 moves forward in hole 17, turning at exactly the same speed as part 1.
Thus, the device described makes it possible to practice on an automatic lathe, without having to stop it, a hole of polygonal section in a workpiece, without the risk of damaging this hole or the chamber, which would be the case if one wanted to drive the chamber 3 and the shaft 7 at the same speed as the part 1., for example by means of a belt transmission.
The method and the device described make it possible to make a hole of any section with an appropriately shaped chamber, in a workpiece on an automatic lathe, without having to stop the latter, for example between turning and cutting operations.
It will also be noted that, thanks to the small initial play of the bearings 12, the recess can center itself and subsequently transmit, via the adjacent disc-spring 14, the reaction of the thrust of the chamber on the bearing. adjacent to remove its game.
The bearing 11, instead of having a cylindrical outer shape as shown in the drawing for simplicity, could be adapted to be easily mounted on a tool holder of an automatic lathe, for example a revolver. It could, for example, present a Morse taper or an American cone. Other details could also be changed, for example the mounting of the chamber in the chamber holder shaft, without going outside the scope of the present invention.
