Description

<B> Process for authenticating objects and objects authenticated by this process. </B> Oily ink seals or dry stamps that are affixed to official documents are extremely easy to forge, and this without the counterfeiters needing, for this purpose, to have access to important, complicated, cumbersome and delicate handling equipment. Stamps, seals or other authentication imprints are generally easily accessible on the document which bears them and can thus be detached to be reproduced or modified without great difficulty.

The present invention tends to remedy these drawbacks.

Its object is a process for the authentication of objects, in particular documents. This method is characterized in that an authentication printing applied to the outside face of a transparent adhesive film stuck to a transfer paper is affixed by transfer, so that after removal of the transfer paper, the The print is sealed between said object and the transparent adhesive film which protects the print from all external contact and tends to prevent any attempts at tampering. The invention further comprises an object authenticated according to this method.

A particular implementation of the method forming the subject of the invention and a particular embodiment of the authenticated object according to this implementation are described below, by way of examples, with reference to the appended drawing. .

Fig. 1 shows a fragment of a .card provided with a photograph and authenticated following said implementation.

Fig. 2 is a section along II-II of FIG. 1.

The thicknesses of the paper of the card, of the photograph and especially that of the thin film bearing the authentication impression are greatly exaggerated, in order to make this cut more easily intelligible.

In the example shown, it was assumed that the document to be authenticated was a card comprising a strong paper support S on which is fixed a photograph P.

The photograph is partially covered by a very thin transparent film R, which bears, on its inner face, an authentication print made in characters which are themselves preferably translucent, so that they can be placed on the photograph, without prejudice to the sharpness and visibility of the latter. The film, printed on its inner side, is made of an adhesive material such as gelatin. It is affixed by decal on the card from a transfer paper on which it is glued by means of a layer of gum arabic.

The gum is highly concentrated at 12% for example, while for the transfer of sensitized gelatin papers, this gum is hardly concentrated above 5%. The film to be transferred is moreover formed by a very thin layer of transparent gelatin with a concentration reduced to approximately 101%. This is another characteristic which distinguishes it from photographic pellets where gelatin is mixed with a sensitizing product (silver nitrate or other).

The authentication printing is applied to the gelatin side of the transfer paper, the printing being done in monochrome fatty ink or by polychrome printing processes. The test thus obtained is, for the placement of the film on the document to be authenticated, soaked in water acidulated with 6% acetic acid and applied immediately, from the gelatin side, straddling the edges. two parts P and S of the document.

The grip is made perfect by the action of Zm rubberized roller. The transfer paper is then removed. The gum then being dissolved in cold water and in a relatively thick layer, it can be lifted away with its backing paper The adhesion of the film printed on its inner face is, as it has been said 'above, carried out by pressure be a roller.

The impression carried by the film and the photograph remains perfectly visible through the transparent film which, given its extreme thinness, is practically incorporated into the document and could in any case not be removed without it being damaged with the impression it carries on its inner face. The film protects the print from any external contact and tends to prevent any attempts at tampering.

The difficulties of imitation, reproduction or forgery can be considerably increased by color printing the film.

The difficulty of forgery could possibly be increased, if one envisages for the film sinuous or broken edges instead of rectilinear edges. It goes without saying that with the authentication printing affixed to the adherent interior face of the film, it is possible, if necessary, to add an external seal affixed partly to the film and partly to the free part of the document.

Finally, the very thin gelatin layer of the transfer paper may receive any appropriate coloring corresponding or not to that of the document or of the object to which it is intended to be applied.

To facilitate the transfer, that is to say to make it easier to remove the transfer paper, we can. provide on the paper a protruding tab or margin not covered with gum and gelatin.

The authentication method forming the subject of the invention can be applied to authenticate the trade marks on the labels or other printed matter which are included in the packages of various products, on various vials or bottles or envelopes used in pharmacies. , in the perfume industry, etc.
