Spray device for the formation of an electrically charged aerosol. The invention relates to a Sprühvor direction by means of which an electrically charged aerosol is formed by spraying a liquid in a gas stream, which should be highly dispersed and stable. Air is particularly suitable as a gas.
As is well known, aerosols tend to coarse very quickly, even if the spraying is initially in a very fine form, due to the agglomeration of liquid droplets which come into contact with one another, and this effect occurs after a short distance, especially within a concentrated spray jet.
Attempts have already been made to beam this effect by introducing ions into the spray. to counteract this, in order to generate repulsive forces between the two particles through the electrical charging of the individual liquid particles, which prevent the agglomeration, ie make the aerosol stable.
However, the introduction of ionization electrodes into the spray did not prove to be practical because these electrodes also act as baffles on which (the spray material is deposited in a highly undesirable manner; in addition, very high voltages are required for the operation of such ionization electrodes.
The invention is initially based on the knowledge that it is sufficient to add a few elementary charges to the individual particles in order to keep an aerosol stable, and that no high voltage is required for this charge if these charges are not carried through Gas ionization, but rather through direct contact from the tear-off edge to the particle, by z. B. charges the spray nozzle itself to a corresponding potential.
In practice, however, this initially results in very good aerosols. A closer examination showed, however, that this failure is due to space charge phenomena and that in particular the coarsening of the aerodynamic atomization process at the tear-off edge is caused by the space charge of the spray jet itself,
which, due to its counter-field, makes it difficult for the charged particles to tear off and is therefore only pierced by coarser particles with a higher mechanical impulse. From this further knowledge it follows that the aforementioned increase in size can be eliminated by loosening this space charge.
This is achieved with the spray device according to the invention; which is characterized by the fact that the tear-off line at which the liquid enters the gas stream is made of electrically conductive material and is connected to one pole of a voltage source of at least one hundred volts, while a space connected to the other pole of this voltage source - The charge electrode is arranged outside the spray jet.
Although the preferably positively charged space charge electrode does not intervene with its physical parts in the spray jet and is attached in such a way that it does not act as a baffle for the spray jet, its field compensates and reduces the space charge, as in the known electron tubes with space charge Lmgsgitter so that the spraying process on the tear-off edge can take place unhindered and, if necessary, is even promoted. It should be noted that
that the effect of the space charge in the case of ions, due to their small mobility, is more pronounced than that of a space charge by electrons, as occurs in electron tubes.
The drawing shows five exemplary embodiments of the spray device according to the invention: FIG. 1 is the diagram of a first embodiment of the spray device with a space charge electrode arranged in front of the tear-off edge.
2 is the diagram of a second embodiment with a space charge electrode which closes the spray jet.
Fig. 3 shows a section through a fuel carburetor, which embodies a third imple mentation form.
FIG. 4 is a section through a fourth embodiment, which is designed as a high-performance spray nozzle, and FIG. 5 shows a section through a centrifugal spray device which is a fifth embodiment.
The simple spray device shown in Fig. 1 consists of a liquid nozzle 1 and a DrLicklLdtdüse 2, which are arranged in übli cher way at an angle to one another. The opening of the metallic liquid nozzle 1 acts as a tear-off edge. In the immediate vicinity of this tear-off edge, a sheet-like charge electrode 3 is arranged and connected to the positive pole of a voltage source 4, the negative pole of which is on the metallic nozzle 1.
In the present case, this electrode 3 has the shape of a round disc carried by the air nozzle 2 with the interposition of an insulating ring 5 and it is understood that with a sufficient potential difference (about 200 to 500 volts) the electric field of the disc electrode 3, the field preventing the spraying process which has to compensate for space charges arising in the immediate vicinity of the liquid nozzle 1. The electrode 3 is completely outside of the spray jet.
The effect is even more favorable if the space charge electrode according to FIG. 2 is given the shape of a cylinder 3a which is arranged in the direction of the spray behind the tear edge and in whose axis the spray runs.
While the disk 3 (Fug. 1) affects the flow pattern at the air nozzle 2 somewhat unfavorably, such a cylinder has an aerodynamically favorable effect and at the same time creates a field whose lines of force run with a substantial component in the direction of the spray jet and therefore the tear-off process at the Additional support for nozzle 1.
Fig. 3 shows a fuel carburetor for internal combustion engines in cal matic representation. A fuel nozzle 7 protruding into the intake duct behind a Venturi tube 6 (of which only the end is visible) is connected to one pole of a voltage source 8, the other pole of which is located on a tubular, electrically insulated space charge electrode 9 built into the intake duct.
A short insulating ring 10 is connected to the electrode 9 by a likewise insulated metallic lining 11 of a mixture pipe 12 leading to the combustion chamber, which is connected to a high voltage source potential of the same name as the spray nozzle 7. The electrically charged fuel droplets finely sprayed by the nozzle 7 i are consequently held together in a mixture column by the electrostatically repulsive field of the lining 11 and are practically no longer able to wet this lining.
Ilierdureh, the evaporation of the fuel on the way to the combustion chamber is supported.
The cross-section of an Ilochleistungs- spray nozzle as it is, for. 4 shows it. A liquid nozzle 13 is arranged axially within a conical air nozzle 14 and is electrically insulated from it by an insulating ring 15, for example in the evaporation and drying apparatus of the chemical industry.
The compressed air introduced radially into a chamber of the air nozzle 14 forms a helically rotating column of air which generates approximately the spray jet indicated by dashed lines. A voltage source 8 is applied between the air nozzle 14 and the liquid nozzle 13.
As a result of the construction chosen, the air nozzle 14 acts directly as a space charge electrode. However, since the center of the space charge lies approximately in a vortex core K, it is advisable to support the electrostatic effect of the air nozzle 14 by a venturi-like flexure cylinder 16 which is carried by the air nozzle 14 by means of webs.
In some cases it is useful to keep the electrode 16 electrically separated from the air nozzle 14 and to give it a somewhat higher potential of the same name as the air nozzle 14.
Of course, the tear-off edge used as a charge transferring device does not necessarily have to be the mouth of a nozzle. You can z. B. can also be formed by the edge of the window of a centrifugal atomizer, for example of the type customary in the Krause spray tower. An embodiment of this kind is shown schematically in FIG. 5 in section. A arranged below a splash guard 17 Zen trifugal disc 18 is driven by a shaft 19 with about 200 rev / sec. driven and is at the negative pole of a voltage source 20.
The material to be dried flowing in a known manner from pipes 21 onto the disk 18 is distributed by centrifugal force over the surface of the disk 18 and is sprayed on all sides at the edge in the manner indicated by dashed lines.
In order to enable the tearing off of the finest, electrically charged panels by compensating for the space charge field, a flange-shaped space charge electrode 23, which is connected to the positive pole of a voltage source 20, is drawn over the splash guard 17 with the interposition of an insulating ring 22.
Since the charged liquid particles repel each other, it is possible in this way to keep the aerosol disperse and thus to carry out drying even more quickly and evenly than before. In practice, this means that the tower can be given a smaller diameter or the drying can be carried out with a reduced air temperature; since it is known that e.g. For example, in the case of foods containing protein, a reduction in the drying temperature by just a few degrees can lead to decisive quality improvements, this offers a considerable advantage.
Since the charged particles, due to their large number, carry with them quantities of electricity, which can give rise to very considerable static charges, it is advisable to place earthed discharge grids in front of the filter systems of the drying tower, which dissipate these charges. The same goal is achieved if a low-frequency alternating current source is used as the voltage source 20. Corresponding measures must be taken for all designs that work with an enclosed spray jet.
The invention can be used in all apparatus and systems in which finely atomized liquids are required and has the advantage that the resulting liquid particles carry a very uniform charge, which even makes it possible to a certain extent to conduct the flowing aerosol through electrostatic fields and bundle mz. This is e.g. This is important, for example, for the transport of the aerosol through pipelines, in which the formation of precipitation can be largely suppressed by appropriate electrical charging of the walls.
