Method of generating work from heat. The invention relates to a process for generating work from heat by compressing a working medium, pre-heating by heat exchange with relaxed working medium, heating by supplying heat from the outside, relaxing, pre-cooling by exchanging heat with compressed working medium and finally cooling the working medium to the compression inlet temperature, which is higher than the temperature of the available coolant.
The disadvantage that this method adheres to when it is used in a known manner in the gas turbine plant is that the compression of the work by means of the gaseous state it follows, which requires a large amount of work for the compression due to the high specific volume Vo , so that the ratio of compression work to relaxation work is unfavorably large.
The disadvantages that adhere to this method when it is used in a known manner in steam power plants operated with water as the working medium, go back to various circumstances. First. is the amount of heat to be supplied to the working fluid during isothermal passage through the wet steam area for the purpose of evaporation or to be withdrawn for the purpose of condensation, hereinafter referred to as the heat of evaporation for water, relatively large.
As a result, no or only a relatively small part of the total heat to be withdrawn from the relaxed working medium remains for heat exchange with the compressed working medium, which part, unfavorably, faces the relatively large amount of heat that is necessary to evaporate the compressed working medium . Furthermore, this large amount of heat is required isothermally in the most unfavorable way for this heat exchange.
Furthermore, at the temperature of an available coolant such as air or water, the condensation isotherm of the water is assigned a very low absolute pressure and therefore a very large specific volume of the still vaporous parts of the working medium, and the apparatus and pipelines through which they flow the plant therefore tend to be very extensive.
From these circumstances, however, it follows that an even approximate fulfillment of the theoretical requirement, on the one hand, the heat to be supplied to the working fluid of the cycle from outside is permissible with the highest available - or with the highest with regard to the materials required to carry out the process To supply temperatures and, on the other hand, to withdraw the heat to be dissipated to the outside at the lowest available temperatures, to the detriment of general economy, there are very great practical difficulties in opposition.
The present invention is based on the task of eliminating or reducing the disadvantages, which thus adhere to this process in the case when it is known to be in the gas turbine plant, and which adhere to it in the other case when it is used in a known way in the water steam power plant.
The invention consists in starting the compression under an isotherm of such a working medium running 300 above the critical temperature, at which the ratio of the specific heat of the liquid working medium to the evaporation heat is greater than at the temperature of the available cooling means Water. Such working materials include carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and difluorodichloromethane.
By following this rule it is achieved, on the one hand, that the specific Volu mina of the working fluid during the compression turn out to be significantly smaller than in the gas turbine system.
On the other hand, it is achieved that the part of the heat to be drawn isothermally from the relaxed working medium is relatively smaller and the part of heat that is eligible for heat exchange with the compressed working medium is relatively larger than in the steam power plant operated with steam.
In particular, however, it is achieved that in the heat demand of the compressed working fluid parts, the isothermal part, which is particularly unfavorable for such a heat exchange, can be reduced and, at a sufficiently low critical temperature of the selected working fluid, can even be eliminated.
Not only the substances mentioned can be used as work equipment, but also other substances that meet the conditions mentioned above. For the fulfillment of these conditions, their critical temperature can already give clues, since the ratio of the specific heat of the liquid working medium to the evaporation heat of the same usually increases the closer the temperature approaches the critical value critical point to reach the value infinite.
The following list, in which some known substances are listed as examples according to their critical temperature, provides such clues, and this list already shows that there are coolants available for the temperatures in question (ranging for example from ambient temperatures up to temperatures of compressed working fluids of other processes available as coolants) a sufficient number of substances can be found which can be considered as working fluids for the process according to the invention.
In this list, the substance is first given, followed by its chemical formula in brackets, if applicable, and then its approximate critical temperature in Kelvin: ozone 268, ethylene 282, xenon 289, carbon dioxide 304, etha.n 305.

B. Difluorodichloromethane (CC12F2) 385, octafluorobutylene (C4Fs) 388, (di) methyl ether (C21160) 400, cyano 401, ammonia 405, isobutane (C41110) 406, methyl chloride (CH @ Cl) 416, chlorine 417 , Methylamine (CH5NT) 430, sulfur dioxide 430, dimethylamine (C2H7N) 437,

For further explanation, the following table also shows the specific heat of the liquid substance c in kcal / kgo C, the evaporation heat r in kcal / kg and the ratio of the specific heat of the liquid substance to the evaporation heat c for some of these substances / r specified and compared to the values applicable to water, namely for temperatures 00 C, 200 C, 1000 C, 200 C, 3000 C, which are within the range,
which will primarily be considered for the temperature of the available coolant. ti; means the critical temperature of the substance. It is given here in 0 C.
At the end of the table, the substance mercury is still listed for further comparison, which is not considered for the method according to the invention.

Evaporation heats for certain temperatures (e.g. for that of an available coolant) cannot be specified for such bodies because they lack the property of unmixed substances that an isobar is also an isotherm in the wet steam region. During the evaporation of an individual substance, the partial pressure increases which this individual substance contributes to the total pressure corresponding to the isobars of the mixture, and consequently the temperature also rises.
It is precisely this fact that can be used advantageously to avoid the occurrence of the evaporation isotherms, which are, as mentioned, in some cases extremely unfavorable for a heat exchange, i.e. to achieve that the heat of evaporation is not at a constant, but at a variable and changeable temperature - temperature change of the other component of the heat exchange adapted temperature is supplied or removed. So it can z. B. carbon dioxide mixed with air or another gas used as a working medium who the. It can also e.g. B. carbon dioxide mixed with water or z. B.
Ammonia mixed with water can be used as the working medium, and the heat of solution can also be used to adjust the temperature change of the working medium to the temperature change of the other component of the heat exchange during a heat exchange.
The method according to the invention will be explained in more detail by way of an example: Carbon dioxide is chosen as the working medium. The carbonic acid is initially compressed from a temperature of 250 C, for example starting from the intersection of the isotherm of 250 C with the left limit curve, at a pressure of about 65 to 200 kg / cm2. This compression increases the temperature of the carbonic acid to around 500 C. The carbon dioxide compressed in this way is preheated in the heat exchange to be described later and then brought to the maximum process temperature z. B. 5000 C.
With this high-tension carbon acid gas, the machine, e.g. B. a turbine operated. The relaxed gases flowing out of the turbine are used in the heat exchange process to preheat the compressed carbon dioxide, as indicated above, and after this release of heat, using a coolant, they are cooled down to the compression temperature. With carbon dioxide, the critical temperature is around -I-3100 C.
Assuming that the temperature of the cow remedy is around 18 C, the gases can be cooled to 25 C with the aid of a coolant. This temperature of 25 C is below the critical temperature of the carbonic acid, so that the beginning of compression is in the liquid aggregate state of the carbonic acid or wet steam area. Would the coolant temperature be higher, e.g.
B. 30 C, one would be able to cool the relaxed gases to about 35 C, so that the compression start temperature is higher than the critical temperature of the carbon dioxide, but not more than 30 above this temperature, so that the compression start temperature is still in an area in which the carbon acid has a relatively high density and thus the compression work is still very low.
With the method described, it is of course possible to undertake the work-making relaxation step by step and switch on heating between these steps, furthermore to carry out the compression step by step from the selected initial state point, to extract heat between these steps and to discharge the latter to a coolant outside.
