Method for generating force. The present invention relates to a method for generating power in heat engines of any type, with preference being given to those with an uninterrupted supply of heat. Its purpose is to improve the overall thermal efficiency beyond what is practically achievable with today's known methods.
Ever since Carnot's theoretical reversible cycle became known, efforts have been made to fully or approximately realize it in practical power plants.
This is not possible in steam engines for known reasons; on the other hand power machines are with. gaseous working agents are generally better suited. But even there, the Carnot process, represented in the T-S diagram by a rectangle, encounters insurmountable difficulties as soon as the temperature ranges available today, e.g. B. between 15 and 650 C in systems with uninterrupted heat supply and between 15 and 1200 C (or even higher) in systems with intermittent heat supply should be used.
In order to reach these temperatures, as prescribed by Carnot, the isentropic compression must be expanded to an extremely high final pressure in relation to the initial pressure, and the isentropic relaxation must go through an equally high pressure ratio. In other words, a pressure ratio is required that can hardly be achieved with the means practically available today. For example, a pressure ratio of more than 1 : 60 is required for the first-mentioned case, for the second-mentioned case even more than 1: 400.
For this reason, in practice, cyclic processes with heat supply under constant pressure are preferred, which can be carried out with practically achievable pressures and pressure ratios. Of these, the simplest is the one given by Brayton, which can be represented in the T-S diagram by a square with two isentropes and two isobars as sides. The Brayton process is tied to low pressure ratios and provides relatively little useful power for the unit weight of the work equipment.
Its efficiency is also very sensitive to changes in the compressor and expansion machine efficiencies and pressure losses in the connecting lines. The Brayton process and other processes discussed later can be carried out as open or closed processes, as is known.
It is known that the simple process can be improved by multi-stage compression with intermediate cooling and by reheating during expansion. Cooling during compression is mostly evenly distributed. Proposed over the entire compaction or concentrated in a finite number of intercoolers. The same applies mutatis mutandis to re-heating. Both measures have the clearly stated purpose of getting as close as possible to isothermal compression or expansion and thus to come close to the process specified by Ericsson, which is shown in the TS diagram as a square with two sides each as isotherms and isobars .
As an open process, the Ericsson process comprises isothermal compression, isobaric heat supply, isothermal expansion, isobaric expulsion of the working medium; as a closed process, isobaric re-cooling of the working medium takes the place of isobaric ejection.
The Ericsson or double isotherms - cycle causes considerable difficulties in the practical implementation, which are rich due to the cooling or reheating of the working medium over the entire Druckbe. However, according to the current state of knowledge, this cycle represents the highest refinement of the so-called isobaric cycle processes.
It is known to use isothermal compression with isentropic expansion, or vice versa, but these measures do not lead to better degrees of efficiency.
The present invention is based on the knowledge of the existence of a cyclic process that requires less intermediate cooling and less reheating than the latter, and yet delivers higher overall efficiencies than any of these known processes, assuming the same temperature limits and the same - different from one - efficiencies of the used Means for compression, relaxation and heat exchange.
In Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, the Brayton process, in Fig. 2 the Ericsson process and in Fig. 3 the idealized circle process according to the invention by the usual TS diagrams, each for the same temperature range T1 to T , and the same printing range P1 to P.;.
In Fig. 1 the square 11-12-13-14 represents the Brayton process, in Fig. 2 the square 21-22-23-214 represents the Ericsson process; In FIG. 3, the hexagon 31-32-33-34-35-36 represents the fundamental idealized shape of the cycle process according to the invention, which for the purposes of this specification is hereinafter referred to as the hexagon cycle process.
This idealized process thus includes isothermal compression 3l-32, isentropic compression 32-33, isobaric heat supply 33-34, isothermal expansion 3-1-35, isentropic expansion 35-36, and isobaric - see expulsion, or re-cooling in the case of a closed process.
The dotted lines in FIG. 3 show the corresponding Brayton process as a square 31-32'- 34-35 'and the corresponding Ericsson process as a square 31-32 "-34-35".
The isobaric heat supply 33-34 of the hexagon process can either take place exclusively through direct or indirect transfer of fuel heat, or partially through waste regeneration from the exhaust gases according to point 36. The degree of effectiveness of such regeneration is determined by the ratio of the transferred - \ V, poor to the I.Värmeinhaltsi difference between points 36 and 33.
The means for executing the hexagon cycle are basically the same as for the Ericsson process; the difference consists in the restriction of the cooling at the first part of the compression and the re-heating to the first part of the expansion. The uncooled part of the compression is best at least forty percent of the pressure difference between the highest and lowest pressure in the cycle.
Under the pressure conditions prevailing in gas turbine systems, this corresponds to a compression end temperature which is at least 40 C higher than the highest temperature occurring during the first cooled part of compression. This makes the practical implementation much simpler, but the efficiency is better than that of the corresponding Brauton or Ericsson processes .:...
A lead elongation, based on identical working conditions, gives the following overall thermal efficiency for the three processes:

They prove that the method according to the invention, despite significant simplification in its practical implementation, produces a noticeable improvement in efficiency beyond what is achievable according to your current state of the art.
In practice, the numbers for the Eriesson or Hexagon processes shift further in favor of the latter, because the related pressure losses are not taken into account. Approximate isothermal compression, that is, step compression, finite intercooling or approximate isothermal expansion, that is.
Step relaxation with. Reheating causes pressure losses in the relevant coolers and reheaters. Since the hexagon process requires fewer coolers or reheaters, the harmful influence of pressure losses is also smaller.
4 shows the T-S diagram of a Hexabon process, as the above comparison is based on. The second part of the compression 42-43 and the expansion 45-46 are no longer isentropic, but rather inclined somewhat according to the internal losses in the compressors or the expansion machines.
The fib. 3 and 4 show somewhat schematic forms of the I3exagon process. In the practical version, the corners can be rounded or completely disappear: that is. indicated in FIG. 4 by dashed lines for the corners 42 and 45, which is intended to indicate that between the isothermal and your. uncooled part of the dielectric or
Expansion (or the approximated isotherins) does not necessarily have to be a clear transition point. For the purposes of the present invention, it is only essential that the compression, viewed as a whole, starts from an initial point 41.
leads to an end point 43 which has both an entropy less than point 41- and a temperature at least 40 C higher than that at any point in the first 50 percent of the pressure limit, and which concerns expansion, as a whole, of a starting point 44 of the highest temperature, the pressure of which is approximately the same. that at point 43 and whose entropy is greater.
than that at point 41, and leads to an end point 46 whose entropy is even greater than that in 44 and whose temperature is lower than that in 44 and higher than in 43 and whose pressure is approximately equal to that in 41. This has the effect that a real straight connecting line between the start and end point of the divergence (41 and 43 in FIG. 4) is strongly inclined both to the horizontal and to the vertical.
This distinguishes the method according to the invention from the known processes in which the ideal is either horizontal (isothermal) or vertical (isentropic) lines of contempt, and deviations are only made to the extent required by the imperfection of the practical means of implementation.
Sweeping. 6 shows. in a simplified representation, an embodiment of a system for carrying out the method according to the invention for generating force using a multi-stage rotating dielectric and a gas turbine as a multi-stage expansion machine.
Ambient air is sucked in at 60 in. The server 61st, compressed with intermediate cooling in coolers 62a, 62b, 62e, 62d.
Cooling only takes place during the first part of the compression; the remaining part is fully cooled. The air compressed in this way leaves the compressor 62 much hotter than in the intake state,
is further heated in the heat exchanger 63 and finally brought to the temperature permissible with regard to the materials used in the heater 64 by internal combustion of fuel. This is followed by expansion in the multi-stage turbine 65 with re-heating in the heaters 66a, 66b and 66c. Heating takes place only in the first part of the expansion, while the further expansion takes place without it.
The working fluid thus leaves the turbine at 67 with a lower temperature than the turbine starting temperature, and is further cooled in the heat exchanger 63 before it is expelled at 68 into the ambient air.
The means of performing this process are basically the same as for the Ericsson process; the main difference lies in the restriction of cooling and heating to the first part of compression and expansion.
It is within the scope of the present invention to perform the compression between points 41 and 43 along different curves. This also applies mutatis mutandis to the expansion between points 44 and 46. Although the circular process with the theoretical diagram angles (31-32-33 and 34.-35-36 in Fig. 3) gives the highest theoretical efficiency, but it can output from it practical considerations may be deviated from.
For example, the isothermal part of the compression or expansion can be approximated by cooling or reheating at a finite number of points. Between h-ühlumg and / or reheating can be provided up to the initial temperature or another temperature.
Fig. 5 shows such a process approximating the idealized hexagon cycle with two-fold intermediate cooling and reheating.
It is known that late reheating can have an unfavorable effect on the overall efficiency and it has therefore been proposed to limit reheating to the first part of the expansion.
It has remained unknown, however, that such a consideration forms only part of a fundamental general law that is equally valid for compression and expansion, its application to ge cooled compression and expansion with reheating to a process according to the invention with higher overall efficiencies, such as previously shown leads.
For the idealized hexagon cycle process with isothermal-isentropic compression or expansion and for cycle processes that come very close to this form, the applicants have found that an optimal value of the degree of vacuum is achieved when the temperature increase during compression
EMI0004.0067
the absolute starting temperature of the compression, and the decrease in temperature during expansion
EMI0004.0068
is the absolute temperature at the beginning of the expansion.
In the above formulas, e denotes the overall thermal efficiency of the practical cycle and k denotes the efficiency of the waste heat regeneration.
This formula clearly defines the point between the Brayton and Ericsson processes, where the efficiency is highest and decreases in the direction of both of the named processes. However, since this point forms the summit of an efficiency curve of parabolic character, a tolerance in the absolute temperatures calculated from the above formulas of plus / minus 6 to 8 percent does not cause any significant reduction in efficiency.
For cycle processes that are represented in the T-S diagram by a more or less irregular or broken curve, the applicants have found that the advantages of the method according to the invention are achieved.
if the final compression temperature corresponds to the value calculated from the above formulas, or is at least 40 C higher. as the highest temperature in the first half of the compression, i.e. at any pressure below 1 / _, (P1 + P2,). Thus, for example in FIG. 5, point 53 must be at least 40 ° C. higher than point 52 '.
This rule leads to a compression with predominantly isothermal first part and predominantly isentropical second part, regardless of the special character of the curve in the 7'-S diagram, which shows the practical operation of the means used for compression and expansion.
An analysis of the formulas given above shows that both the Brayton and Ericsson processes are special cases of the hexagon process given, for the following reasons:
If the selected pressure ratio is so small that the corresponding temperature increase for isentropic compression corresponds to the value resulting from the first formula, the hexagon process loses its isothermal parts and degenerates into a Brayton process, so to speak. If, on the other hand, the effectiveness of the waste heat regeneration is assumed to be 100 percent (i.e. k = 1),
the hexagon process loses its isentropic parts and takes the form of the Ericsson process.
Even if these considerations have predominantly theoretical significance, they are nevertheless important for the essence and practical scope of the present invention. In practice, the borderline cases mentioned will hardly ever occur: The Brayton process is only the best at a pressure ratio of 1: 3 or less: on the other hand, 100 percent efficiency of the waste heat regeneration is practically unattainable.
For similar reasons, it is important to recognize that even the Carnot process can be interpreted as a special case of the universally valid solution specified by the above formulas.
Without waste heat regeneration (k = 0), but ideal compression and expansion without losses, and a pressure ratio of sufficient height to achieve the ideal Carnot efficiency
EMI0005.0053
The introduction of these values of k and e into the formulas results in a corresponding temperature increase during compression (Ti --T,) and an identical value for the temperature decrease during expansion.
Consequently, the formulas prescribe that the entire temperature range between the lowest and highest temperature (T1 and T_,) must be bridged by isentropic compression or expansion, which, as is known, Carnot prescribes. The ideal Carnot cycle therefore appears as a special case of the general solution given by the applicants, and as the best possible process if compression and expansion take place without loss.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the present invention can be embodied in a variety of ways; There are no restrictions imposed on the specific form and mode of operation of the apparatus used to carry out the process.
The invention encompasses processes with or without waste heat regeneration; it is indifferent for the purposes of the invention what medium and / or fuels are used for cooling.
