Combustion turbine propulsion system for aircraft. The invention relates to a combustion turbine drive system for aircraft in which air is compressed in an axial flow compressor, passed into combustion chambers into which fuel is injected and continuously burned at constant pressure and then in an axial flow turbine, which drives the compressor, is expanded, the compressor and the turbine being combined to form a unit in that they are arranged coaxially one inside the other, so that coaxial and mutually enclosing through-flow annular spaces are created for the working medium.
The aim of the invention is to create an arrangement with a short axial length and compact construction which is suitable for driving a propeller and for installation in aircraft fuselages or nacelles.
In a combustion turbine drive system according to the invention, the coaxial and mutually enclosing through flow annulus spaces are connected in such a way that the flow in these annulus spaces is in the opposite direction, and a power turbine mechanically independent of the first-mentioned turbine is also provided for driving a propeller , which is arranged on the exhaust side of the first-mentioned tur bine.
In, the accompanying drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, the figure shows half in view, half in schematic axial section, a combustion turbine unit, which is intended for installation in an aircraft, the drive both by an air screw and by Jet propulsion effect takes place.
In the drawing, 1 denotes the outer skin of the gondola surrounding the power unit. The supporting structure of this unit comprises a front housing member 2a, 2b, an outer housing made up of rings 3, 3a, 3b, 3c, an intermediate wall 14, a rear end wall 15 and a fixed axle 13 which is attached to the walls 14, 15 .
The housing member 2a, 2b has a cylindrical part 2a and two end walls 2b which are connected by stiffening ribs, all of these parts being formed in one piece; the cylindrical part 2a and the housing ring 3 define an annular inlet guide channel 5 to the compressor, the inlet to this guide channel through the inwardly folded front edge part of the nacelle skin 1, which is attached to the housing ring 3 and forms a continuation of it, and is formed by a front fairing 4 which is attached to the cylindrical part 2a of the front housing member and forms a continuation of the same.
The housing rings 3a, 3, b, 31c enclose an annular through-flow channel into which; dis KQmrsuorsich: @, ufeln work in .. c, _ manner described below. This compressor flow channel merges into a guide channel 6 which, by means of a 180-degree bend, which is provided with internal guide vanes 7 for suppressing the turbulence, leads into a combustion chamber 8 which contains a fuel injection nozzle 9.
The combustion gases pass from the combustion chamber into a second ring-shaped flow channel in which the turbine blades operate as described below. This turbine throughflow channel is arranged coaxially to the compressor throughflow channel and is enclosed by the compressor throughflow channel, the flow through the turbine taking place in the opposite direction to that in the compressor, as will be explained in more detail below.
The partition 14 is connected by its one-piece ribs 16 to a covering ring 18 which forms a continuation of the cylindrical part 2a. Another ring of radial ribs 17 ver binds the cladding ring 18 with the Ge housing ring 3a; in the same way, the end wall 15 is connected by radial ribs 19 to a sheathing ring 21, which is connected by further radial ribs 20 to the housing ring 3c.
A number of rotor wheels 23, which are rotatably supported on the axle 13 by means of bearings 22, are arranged between the end walls 14 and 15. Each rotor wheel has a ring of two-part blades 24, 25, de Ren inner blade parts 24 are separated from the outer blade parts 25 by sheathing elements 26 which form sheathing rings when the blades are placed on the wheels. The inner blade parts 24 are designed as turbine blades and the outer blades 25 as compressor blades, the blade angles being selected so that adjacent rotor wheels 23 rotate in opposite directions. There are therefore no stator blades, neither in the compressor nor in the turbine; the ribs 16, 17, 19, 20 act as guide vanes at the inlet and outlet of the turbine or compressor.
The clearances between and at the ends of the wrapping rings 26 are sealed by seals not shown in an individual.
The annular compressor flow channel is thus determined by the housing rings 3a, 3b, 3c, the fixed enveloping rings 18, 21 and the rotatable enveloping rings 26 and the flow through this success from right to left in the drawing, ie. H. from the guide channel 5 to the guide channel 6, wherein the flow occurs at the inlet and out through the guide vane ribs 17 and 20, respectively.
In the same way, the ring-shaped turbine flow channel is determined by the fixed and rotatable enveloping rings 21, 18 and 26 and the edges of the fixed end walls 14, 15 and the rotatable wheels 23, the flow being from left to right in the drawing; the guide vane ribs 19, 16 serve to guide the flow at the inlet or outlet of the turbine.
At the exhaust end of the compressor turbine there is a mechanically independent power turbine for driving a propeller, as described below; this has a turbine wheel 29 which is rotatably supported on the axis 13s by a bearing 28, eats and carries two rings of rotor blades 30 which are separated by a ring of stator blades 31 which are arranged on the inside of the cylindrical housing part 2a. The exhaust gases from this power turbine are passed through guide channels 10, which have a 180-arc, into an annular guide channel 11, the outlet end 12 of which opens into a propulsion jet nozzle (not shown).
It can be seen that the flow of the working medium in the entire force unit is subjected to two complete reversals of direction, namely at 7 and 10, respectively. The turbine wheel 29. Der NutzTeistun: gs- turbine is medium ', a flange, chkupp'lung connected to a catfish 3! 2, which is supported in bearings 3, 3, which in an extension of the rear end wall 2b of the housing member 2a, 2b are arranged.
The shaft 32 carries a bevel gear 34 which meshes with a planet gear 35 which can be rotated on a web shaft 37 which is made in one piece with a propeller shaft 38. On the shaft 38 a train screw propeller 40 is arranged, which carries a propeller hub cap 41. The. Propeller reduction gear is completed by a stationary conical ring gear 36 which is in engagement with the planet gears 35 and forms ge on an extension of the front end wall 2b of the housing member 2a, 2b, which also includes a bearing 39 supporting the propeller shaft 38.
The direction of flight of the aircraft is from left to right in the drawing, and it can be seen that the air inlet, which is directed forwards and determined by elements 1, 4, is immediately behind the plane of rotation of the propeller, so that the inlet, which acts as a catching nozzle, also allows the post-flow of the Zugpropel lers is subject.
The arrangement of the turbine and the compressor coaxially one inside the other and with opposite flow directions, together with the use of two-part blades, enables the whole unit to be very crowded and short by eliminating connecting shafts, and also for the load Before combustion, on the one hand, the turbine blades can be preheated and, on the other hand, the turbine blades can be cooled in such a way that the blade temperatures are kept within reasonable limits, especially at the high pressure end of the turbine.
Since the power turbine driving the propeller is independent of the compressor, its speed can be selected so that, as shown, a single-stage propeller reduction gear can be used. This avoids double or multi-speed reduction gears, which would normally be required if the propeller were driven by the compressor turbine, the speed of which is determined by the requirements of the compressor.
Another advantage arises from the use of counter-rotating rotor edges, which are not subjected to any external loading, so that no rotational reaction, originating from the rotating parts of the compressor turbine unit, has to be absorbed. Rotational reactions occur naturally originating from the propeller drive, which are the algebraic sum of the rotary forces on the gear ring 36 and on the stator blades 31, and also the forces acting on the ribs 16, 17, 19, 20. These forces and reactions are absorbed by the housing member 2a, 2b, wel Ches it transmits vehicle body through its storage on the air.
Of course, other embodiments of the power turbine for driving the propeller can also be seen as an alternative to the simple rotor design shown. For example, a pair of counter-rotating turbine wheels can be used to drive the propeller via concentric shafts and a reduction gear, or the concentric shafts can drive a pair of counter-rotating propellers via a gear unit. More than two stages can also be provided for this drive turbine.
The distribution of the energy still present in the gases at the outlet from the compressor turbine between the propeller drive turbine and the jet nozzle can be determined according to the requirements of the various engines. For example, in such a way that the larger part of the available power is absorbed by the propeller, or in such a way that the larger part is used in the jet nozzle and the propeller only gives a small proportion of the total propulsion effect.
