Produit plastique.
Les polyéthers rentrant dans la compo sition du produit, objet de l'invention, sont avantageusement du type qui correspond à la formule générale suivante;
EMI0001.0040
Les exemples suivant montrent comment on peut préparer des produits plastiques con formes à l'invention; les parties s'entendent en poids Exemple 1: On place dans un malaxeur 60 parties d'un interpolymère obtenu à partir de 50 par- ties. d'adipate d'hexaméthylënediammonium et 50 parties de s-caprolactame;
Product plastic. It has been proposed to modify certain mechanical properties of linear, synthetic polycondensates, in particular superpolyamides, by treating these substances with compounds such as arylsulfonamides, polyphenol phosphates, aromatic acids, amino carboxylic acids,
polyoxybenzoic esters, etc. But the results obtained are not entirely satisfactory. Indeed, the polymers thus treated are often more sensitive to heat and light and offer less resistance to water and alkalis; on the other hand, the. above compounds do not always exhibit perfect compatibility with the polymer itself.
It has been found that it is possible to significantly improve certain properties of linear poly-condensates, such as, in particular, superpolyamides, and to avoid the defects indicated by adding to them phenolic compounds in which all the phenolic functions are etherified.
A subject of the present invention is therefore a new plastic product, which is characterized in that it contains at least one superpolyamide and at least one polyether of a polyphenol, all of the phenolic functions of which are etherified.
The polyethers forming part of the composition of the product, object of the invention, are advantageously of the type which corresponds to the following general formula;
EMI0001.0040
in which R represents: aliphatic aliphatic radicals similar or different and n an integer equal to or greater than 2.
R can be, for example, methyl, ethyl, propyl, etc.
The polyethers of polyphenols capable of being used for the preparation of new plastic products are, for example, dimethylhydroquinone, methylethylhy-droquinone; fdimethylresorcin and trimethyloxybydroquinone.
The percentage of these compounds incorporated in the polycondensates varies, in particular, according to the nature of the object to be conformed from the product according to the invention and to its use. In certain proportions, they act as plasticizers, thus conferring on the resulting new products the properties of flexibility and elasticity which they often lack originally.
The methods of incorporating these compounds into the polyamides are very varied; generally the polyamide and the polyether are dissolved in a common solvent and the resulting collodion is worked up to isolate the plastic product therefrom when it has assumed the desired qualities. It is also possible to place the polyamide in a kneader with a small amount of solvent or blowing agent, add the polyether to it and work; after a more or less prolonged action, the new product obtained hot and under pressure using devices such as a rolling mill, for example.
Alternatively, the polyamide and the polyether can be dissolved in a solvent, then the product can be precipitated by adding a non-solvent. It is also possible to add fillers, pigments, dyes, etc. to these products.
It remains understood that the proportion of poly- ether to be incorporated depends above all on the application envisaged. The plastic products according to the invention can be used for induction, for the preparation of films, films, sheets, molding powders, plastic masses, etc.
These plastic products have good dynamometric characteristics, they do not give rise to exudation phenomena, they offer good resistance to water and alkalis, and show less sensitivity to light and heat. than the products already recommended.
It is unexpected that such polyethers exhibit perfect compatibility with interpolyamides and give the resulting products such advantageous properties, given that all the phenolic functions are blocked, as it was believed until now,
that these functions were essential to ensure the compatibility of interpolyamides with other substances.
The following examples show how plastic products according to the invention can be prepared; the parts are by weight Example 1: 60 parts of an interpolymer obtained from 50 parts are placed in a mixer. hexamethylenediammonium adipate and 50 parts of s-caprolactam;
it is left to swell in a solvent composed of µ01% ethyl alcohol and 20% water, until the polyamide has absorbed its weight from the solvent; then., while stirring, the swollen mass is heated to XQQ C, adding 40 parts of dimethylhydroquinone; -after complete homogeneity, the solvent is distilled off. The mass obtained is passed through a heated rolling mill to complete the drying.
By mining the mass obtained can be transformed into a clear, resistant sheet of remarkable elasticity.
Example 2: 23 parts of an interpolymer obtained from 60 part of hexamethylenediammonium and 40 parts of s-aminocaproic acid are swelled for 24 hours in a solvent consisting of 80 % ethyl alcohol and 20% water.
After complete dissolution in a water bath, 40 parts of methyl-ethyl: roquinone and 9 parts - of N-ethyl- p. toluenesulfamide. After homogenization of. mixture, it is cooled.
The product obtained can be used as follows to make an imitation leather: A first layer is applied to a cotton fabric, and it is dried.
Several thin coats are then applied with intermediate drying of a varnish. composed of 16 parts of the same interpolyamide as that used for the first layer, - dissolved in a solvent consisting of 80% ethyl alcohol and 20 water, to which 12 parts of methyl ethylhydroquinone and 13 parts of smoke black.
In the end, we obtain a very supple, very shiny and resistant imitation leather. \ Example 3: 12 parts of an interpolymer, obtained from 60 parts of hexamethylenediammonium adipate and 40 parts of s-amino-caproque acid, are allowed to swell in. 86 parts of a solvent consisting of 80% chloroform and 20% methanol.
After 24 hours, dissolution is completed in a water bath, at reflux and with stirring, then 3 parts of dimethylresorcin are added to the collodion. When the mixture is homogeneous, it is filtered while hot. This collodion, cast onto a cold support and then dried, can be detached from this support and gives a remarkably flexible and transparent film, having good dynamometric qualities.
