Opposed cylinder piston machine with a two-part housing. The present invention relates to a piston machine, such as an internal combustion engine, a steam engine, a piston pump, etc., with opposed cylinders having a two-part housing.
It is known that in machines in which a piston is driven by a reciprocating movement in a cylinder, the maximum force exerted on the crankshaft by the connecting rod which connects it to the piston corresponds appreciably to the passage through dead centers. The result is that the maximum forces exerted by the crankshaft on these bearings are directed parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
When the bearings of the bearings are made in two pieces, it is advantageous, in order to ensure the continuity of the oil film necessary for the lubrication of the bearings, to have the joint plane of the bearings normally to the axis of the cylinders.
Consequently, until now, the casing of these machines was generally com posed of two symmetrical parts assembled along a parting plane normal to the axes of the cylinders. Tightening of the bearings was ensured only by tightening the housing assemblies.
This arrangement had many drawbacks, because the bearing face of the bearings and of the elements of the casing had to lie strictly in the same plane, otherwise either the bearings bore perfectly on their bearing face the elements of the bearing. housing had to deform to become contiguous, or else the sinet necks were not. not tight when locking the bolts assembling the components of the housing. Moreover, during the dismantling of the housing, this arrangement necessarily entailed the unbundling of the shaft line.
The present invention overcomes these drawbacks. It relates to a piston machine with opposed cylinders comprising a casing in two parts and bearings also in two parts, in which the two halves of the bearing are assembled in a joint plane normal to the axes of the cylinders, i . While one of the two parts of the housing, also assembled in a plane normal to said axes, constitutes a separate part of the bearing.
Embodiments of the invention are shown schematically, by way of non-limiting examples, in the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 is a vertical cross-sectional ticking diagram of an opposed cylinder engine.
The filg. 2 is a vertical section showing an alternative embodiment of an opposing cylinder engine.
Fig. 3 shows, on a larger scale, in its upper half, a vertical half-section of an engine with op posed cylinders passing through the bearing and, in its lower part, a vertical half-section of this engine at a place between bearings. Fig. 1 shows an engine comprising two opposed cylinders 1, 2 each secured to one of the parts 3, 4 of the crankcase. Part 3 of the housing has a flange 5 and part 4 of the housing has a flange 6.
The assembly of these parts of the housing is carried out by means of bolts 7, 8 following a parting plane 9 normal to the axis of the cylinders 1, 2, but located in absolutely any way with respect to the plane of symmetry 10 of these cylinders .
Part 3 of the housing carries a half of the bearing 11 in which is placed a half of the bearing 12. The other half of the bearing consists of a bearing cap 13 provided with a half of the bearing 14. The two halves of the bearing and bearing are joined on the plane of symmetry 10 of cylinders 1 and 2. The bearing cap fits for example at 15 in the transverse web 16 connecting the half-bearing 11 to part 3 of the housing. The assembly between the bearing cap 13 and the half-bearing 11 is carried out using bolts 17, 18 in a manner completely independent of the assembly between the two parts 3 and 4 of the housing. A veil 20 provided in part 4 of the housing forms a bridge above the bearing cap 13.
This arrangement thus makes it possible to tighten the two half-bearings 11 and 13 and the two half-bearings 12 and 14 independently of the tightening of the two parts 3 and 4 of the housing, then to remove these parts of the housing without modifying the setting of the housing. tree line 19.
In fig. 2, the engine again comprises two opposing cylinders 1, 2, each one of one of the parts 22 or 23 of the crankcase. As in fig. 1, part 22 of the casing carries a half-bearing 24 on which is placed a free bearing cap 25. Two half-bearings 26, 27 maintain the shaft line 28. Part 23 of the casing is also provided with 'a veil 29 forming a bridge over the bearing cap 25.
As in the previous examples, the parting line 30 of. two half-bearings and two half-bearings coincides with the plane of symmetry of the two cylinders 1 and 2. On the other hand, the joint plane 31 of the two parts 22 and 23 of the housing, although also normal to the axis of the cylinders , is offset from the plane of symmetry of the latter and placed at any distance from this plane.
Unlike the embodiment according to fi, g. 1, the connecting members of the two parts 22 and 23 of the housing between them and of the two half-bearings are combined without the tightening of the shaft line ceasing to be independent of the tightening of the housings.
To this end, the arms 32, 33 supporting the half-bearing 24 in the part 22 of the housing are made in the form of sleeves through which pins 34, 3 @ 5 are passed which pass through the flange 316, -of the cap bearing 25. These pins 34, 35 have, at the location of the crossing of this flange, a thread onto which nuts 37, 38 are screwed which thus block the bearing cap 25 on the half-bearing 24 at s' fitting into the transverse web 39 connecting this half-bearing to the periphery of part 22 of the housing.
The pins 34, 35 are extended beyond the nuts 37, 38 by parts 34 ', 35' of smaller diameter which carry at their end a thread receiving nuts 40, 41 ensuring the tightening of the part 23 of the housing on the part 22 of the housing.
It is thus possible to remove part 2 & from the casing by unscrewing the nuts 40, 41 without touching the shaft line. When you want to disassemble this, it is necessary to loosen the nuts 37, 38 to release the bearing cap 25.
Fig. 3 shows an engine comprising opposing cylinders 42, 43 and a two-part casing 44 and 45. Part 44 of the casing carries a half-bearing 46 provided with a half-bearing 47, on which a half-bearing is placed. bush 48- and a bearing cap 49 to hold the shaft line 50.
As in the previous examples, the joint plane 51 of the two half-bearings and the two half-bearings coincides with the plane of symmetry of the cylinders, while the joint plane 52 of the two parts 44 and 45 of the -carter, although normal to the axis of the cylinders, is offset from said plane of symmetry and placed at any location with respect to the latter.
To the right of each bearing, the two cylinders dres, provided with an assembly flange 42 ', 43', and the two housing parts 44, 45 are linked by pins 53 with nuts 54 of which the upper pin alone is shown .
For their part, the two bearing halves 46 and 49 are clamped against each other independently by bolts 55 and nuts 56.
On the other hand, between the bearings, small studs 57, 58 with nuts 59, 60 secure the flanges 42 ', 43' of the cylinder blocks 42, 43 with the casing parts 44, 45, then a series of short bolts 61 to nuts 62 ensure the sealing assembly of the two housing parts 44, 45.
When the housing and the bearings are made of light metal, such as magnesium, this arrangement ensures the advantage that the magnesium works mainly on compression at the location of the assemblies provided by the pins 53 located in line with the pa The magnesium working in tension only in the anchoring region of the bolts 55 of the bearing cap 49. The small studs and connecting bolts 57, 58, 61 placed between the bearings do not subject the light metal to heavy loads.
It is obvious that the two op posed cylinders represented can also each represent a row of cylinders, the engines or other machines thus being able to comprise any desired number of pairs of cylinders.
On the other hand, we have seen that, in fig. 1 and 2, the two parts of the housing are in one piece with their respective cylinders, while, in fig. 3, on the contrary, the cylinder blocks are molded separately from the crankcases and attached to the latter to which they are linked by means of suitable bolting. All the embodiments described however have a housing part which constitutes a separate part of the bearing.
It is obvious that many other variant embodiments are possible without departing from the scope of the invention. The machinery in accordance with the invention, such as internal combustion engines, steam engines, piston pumps, compressors, etc., can of course be manufactured from any desirable material, in particular partly from light metals.
