Centrifugal switch for low speeds. A centrifugal switch is a general term for devices in which contacts are made (opened or closed) depending on the number of revolutions. Fig. 1 illustrates in principle a sol chen switch of conventional design.
The essential components here are the mass M rotatable around the axis E, the tension spring Zf and the contact K. When the switch is rotated around the axis A at the angular velocity to, a centrifugal force Z acts on the mass M, which in its "dynamic center of gravity" attacks and is directed radially outwards, of the size Z = Mrco2. This centrifugal force counteracts the tensile force Kf of the spring,
so that the contact pressure decreases with increasing number of revolutions. At the target number of revolutions it becomes 0, the moments of Z and Kf with respect to E keep the equilibrium. If the number of tours is increased further, the centrifugal moment prevails. The mass rotates around its axis E and the contact opens. As can be seen from the above formula, Z increases proportionally to r, but Kf also increases linearly with r.
A distinction must be made between two cases: a) The torque of Z increases more than that of Kf. This means that as r increases, an equilibrium position between the two moments is no longer possible; once the mass has set in motion, it moves as far as the stop As. This case is generally to be aimed for, as this ensures that the contact is clearly actuated.
b) The moment of Z grows less strongly than that of gf. In this case, the mass only moves until the equilibrium of the two torques is restored. The contact is activated slowly.
If one looks at the increase in the centrifugal force with the number of revolutions, that is, one forms the expression
EMI0001.0038
so you can see that the change in centrifugal force is proportional to the number of revolutions. In the case of larger numbers of tours (some 1000), this change is so great that the requirement under a) is easily met.
The situation is different in the case of low numbers of revolutions (a few 100 revolutions per minute), where the requirement under a) must be adhered to. It turns out, however, that in general with the arrangement according to FIG. 1, which is characterized in that the spring force Kf acts in the direction of the movement of its point of engagement P, it is not possible at all for the spring to be soft enough in the prescribed space not to be dimensioned, in particular because certain requirements must be placed on the size of the contact pressure close to the target number of revolutions.
According to the invention, this deficiency is remedied by not allowing the spring force of the pivotably mounted centrifugal mass to counteract in the direction of the movement of its point of attack, but rather at an angle to it. Fig. 2 schematically illustrates an example of the switch according to the invention. As can be seen, the spring force Tf acts at the acute angle a with respect to the direction of movement of its point of application P. Here, too, the spring force increases with the movement of M with increasing r.
At the same time, however, the effective lever arm h decreases with respect to the pivot point E of the flywheel. By choosing the right size, it is possible to increase the spring torque as small as you want. There is even the possibility to let the spring moment decrease with increasing r .. This becomes immediately clear if one considers the special case in which the center of mass rotation E lies on the straight line connecting the two clamping points of the tension spring, so that the lever arm relevant for the spring moment h. becomes 0.
It is in the nature of things that with centrifugal switches for low speeds, the ratio of the moment of the centrifugal force to the maximum moment of gravity of the eccentric of a holder rotating in the vertical plane is small. Assuming, for example, at a speed of 6000 rev / min. if the moment of centrifugal force is 40 times greater than the moment of gravity, at 300 rev./min. the moment of centrifugal force is only the tenth part of the moment of gravity.
From this example it is clear that with centrifugal switches for low speeds the moment of gravity can be of the same order of magnitude as the moment of centrifugal force. As long as such a centrifugal switch rotates in a horizontal plane for low speeds, this is without disadvantage. In cases where a horizontal arrangement is not possible for structural reasons, the force of gravity has a very disruptive effect in that the response speed is a function of the angular position of the centrifugal switch.
Fig. 3 illustrates an example of the embodiment of the inventive subject matter in which the influence of gravity is eliminated by using two masses M1 and 1V1. These are coupled with one another via the gears Z1, Z @ and Z ;, in such a way that a compensation is achieved with regard to gravity, while their centrifugal forces add up.
With the adjusting screw Sb, the point of application of the tension spring Zf can be shifted within certain limits, whereby a change in the course of the spring force torque is achieved within certain limits. The adjustment screw SF) _ is used to regulate the spring tension, whereby the response speed of the switch changes or changes within certain limits. can be adjusted. Sb "is used to set the size of the contact opening.
As can be seen from Fig. 3, it is easily possible, the gear Z ,; In such a way that a hole can be provided in the middle for a continuous shaft, so that the switch is not only placed on one shaft end, but somewhere on an axis. can.
