Für Maschinenteile, die. bei erhöhter Tem peratur arbeiten und . starken Temperatur schwankungen ausgesetzt sind, wurden auch schon Stähle empfohlen, die bis zu 0,3 Kohlenstoff, mehr als .:etwa 2,10'% Chrom, sowie als weiteres Element, das eine- Erhö hung der Streckgrenze hervorruft und das Auftreten der Anlasssprödigkeit verhindert, über 0,15 % Molybdän oder 0;

Hot tool that is exposed to the action of hot workpieces. For the production of hot tools that work at higher temperatures as a result of the action of hot workpieces and should therefore have high tempering resistance, such as.
B. from hot dies, roll mandrels, injection molding matrices, etc., were previously preferred as chrome-tungsten steels with about 0.25 to 0.35% carbon, 2 to 3% chromium, 8: to 10,% tungsten and up to 0; 50% vanadium used.
A known steel of this type with about 0.28% carbon, 2.70 chromium, 8.50% tungsten and 0-20% vanadium yields about 165 kg / mm @ at a tempering temperature of 450 ° C. at 550 ° C about 1.55 kg / km2 and at 600 C about 145 kg / mm2 strength. .
For machine parts that. work at a higher temperature and. are exposed to strong temperature fluctuations, steels have also been recommended that contain up to 0.3 carbon, more than.: about 2.10% chromium, and as a further element that causes an increase in the yield point and the occurrence of temper brittleness prevents over 0.15% molybdenum or 0;
30% tungsten and can contain up to 0.40% vanadium to further increase the yield point and up to 2% nickel to improve other properties.
It was also known to manufacture valves for internal combustion engines, forges, casting molds and other hot work items, steels with 2 to 7 tungsten or molybdenum (preferably tungsten), 0.2 to 5% cobalt, 2 to 8% chromium and 0.2 to 1.5% carbon to be used.
Furthermore, for objects that work in a flowing medium, such as. B. ship propellers, blades for steam or water turbines, steels with 0.1 to 0.5% carbon and 3 to 20% chromium have already been proposed, which also contain up to 2 nickel and up to 1% Mölybdenum, vanadium or tungsten, individually or mixed. However, nothing was to be taken from this proposal about the advantageous use of such steels for hot tools.
The aim of the invention is to create hot tools that are exposed to the action of hot workpieces from steels that do not have to have any of the elements that are harmful to foreign exchange, tungsten, molybdenum or cobalt , 30 to 1.20% carbon; 2.0 to. Contains 14.0% chromium and 0.50 to 2.00% vanadium.
It has been shown, contrary to expectations, that the tempering resistance of the chromium-vanadium steels from which the hot tools according to the invention are made is that of the aforementioned chromium and tungsten steel at tempering temperatures between 450 and 550 ' C not only achieve
but it can even exceed it considerably and even at a tempering temperature of 600 C the strength can still carry over 120 to 150 kg / mm 'be.
The tempering resistance of some of these chrome-vanadium steels is in the. Comparison to the above mentioned chromium tungsten = steel from the following examples:

Now it was known per se that the tempering resistance of steels can be increased by adding vanadium. Such a high tempering resistance was not to be expected, especially with hot tools according to the invention made of tungsten, molybdenum and cobalt-free chromium-vanadium steels
especially since the known hot-work steels only contain up to (1.5% vanadium.
Hot tools according to the invention are easy to forge and can be easily machined in the annealed state: To avoid a depletion of the basic mass of carbon in the steels of these hot tools, it seems expedient to keep the carbon content within the specified limits as the vanadium content increases to increase.
