Electron tube for generating or amplifying electrical oscillations with a gas or vapor discharge as the electron source. The invention relates to an electron tube in which the electron stream is obtained from an auxiliary discharge generated in a gas or vapor-filled space. Such tubes are especially in the executions as head flow and wall flow amplifier respectively. Transmission tubes known.
In the case of the first-mentioned type of tube, an auxiliary arc discharge passes between a cathode and a perforated, preferably grid-shaped anode, through which the electrons pass into the actual amplifier space of the tube. The arc anode, which is also referred to as an emission grid, can still be preceded by ion trap grids, the purpose of which is to prevent ions from passing into the amplifier room.
In the case of the wall-current amplifier, the auxiliary discharge serving as an electron source is concentric from the amplifier electrodes (amplifier anode and control grid) or. - Enclosed by the emission grid. Since a large amount of electrons can be released from an auxiliary discharge, the tubes described are very well placed when it comes to generating electrical oscillations for purposes that require considerable power. This is e.g.
B. at Senderöh ren for high frequency generators, which are used in industrial plants. The invention is now concerned with the structural design of such tubes with a view to the required high performance. Particular attention should be paid to the fact that a tube for industrial purposes is suitable for rough operation and also mechanically robust.
According to the invention. if there is a generator or Amplifier electron tube with a gas or vapor discharge as an electron source at least partially made of nested metal parts of essentially cylindrical basic shape, which are connected to each other vacuum-tight by mutually ver in the axial direction ring fusions of glass or glass-like material and are supported against each other.
In this way, it is possible to create a compact structure. Which combines the advantage of good heat dissipation and thus high performance with that of considerable mechanical stability and absolutely secure shielding of the individual rooms. It is also possible to precisely maintain the distance between the electrodes in the control room, which, as is well known, has to be smaller than the mean free path of the ions at the prevailing gas pressure.
This result is particularly noteworthy for the type of tube identified in the introduction, since such tubes have a larger number of electrodes.
Examples of the design of the electron tube according to the invention are shown in the figures. Fig. 1 shows a 'head current amplifier with a completely metal be standing vessel wall (with the exception of the fusions). The cathode of the auxiliary discharge path is denoted by 1, the anode 2 of which acts as an emission grid through which the electrons enter the amplifier chamber 3.
The Waudungteil 4 closing the auxiliary discharge space has an inverted end 5 into which the cathode leads are melted by means of a glass plug 6. The vessel part 4 has a flange i. Has a similar flange 8. the continuation 9 of the vessel wall. The scheibenför shaped emission grille 2 is soldered or welded in between these two flanges.
This achieves a very intensive heat dissipation from the emission grid 2, which indeed forms the anode of the auxiliary discharge path. Another cylindrical (cup-shaped) metal body 10 is inserted into the cylindrical wall part 9, the end face 3 of which forms the control grid for the electron flow (amplifier grid). The cylindrical bodies 9 and 10 are fused together in a vacuum-tight manner by means of a ringför shaped glass fusion 11.
In the pot-shaped body 10, the likewise pot-shaped amplifier anode 12 1, concentr-i: cli is now placed. The vacuum-tight connection of the parts 10 and 12 also provides an annular glass seal 13, which is offset in the direction of the vessel axis relative to the seal 11. This arrangement ensures good heat dissipation.
Above all, the ring glass fusions are well cooled, since there are many heat radiation areas available and a coolant flow caused by the chimney effect or artificially moved coolant flow comes into intimate contact with the melting points. The electrodes are also cooled by the good heat dissipation of the metallic electrode bodies. Electrode carriers are significantly promoted, which in turn release this heat to the outside through radiation.
In particular, the important heat dissipation from the anodic parts is significantly improved by the arrangement described.
In terms of production technology, the tube construction described is particularly advantageous. The construction of the entire tube according to a kind of modular principle makes complicated spacing and holding devices, for example ceramic spacers, unnecessary. The production of the glass ring fusions does not cause any difficulties. You can insert glass rings between the metal parts held by a suitable device, which are supported by support bodies to be removed later or permanent (e.g. existing on the thin ceramic rings) during the melting down.
The distance between the electrodes and the related Tei len in the amplifier room is chosen so that with the prevailing gas or. Vapor pressure between these parts no glow discharge can occur.
As in the case of the head current amplifier or transmitter red according to FIG. 1, in the case of the wall flow pipe according to FIG. 2: the electrodes are made of glass or glass-like masses offset from one another, e.g. B. S: egerkegelmassen, joined together. The auxiliary discharge goes between the cathode (z. B. a hollow cathode with glow emission) 14 and the anode 15.
The emission grating 16 is provided with cylindrical extensions 17 and 18. The extension 18 is turned inside out. The cathode feeds are located in its everted end by means of a glass plug 29. and the pump tube 30 melted down. The extension 18 is pushed into the emission grille and can be removed from it. The cylindrical Forteatz 17 is by means of a
Ring seal 19 fused to the anode. The amplifier grid 20 also has an extension 21, which is connected vacuum-tight by means of a ring fusion on the one hand with the cylindrical part 17, on the other hand by means of a further ring fusion 23 with the amplifier anode 24. is. The fusion rings are offset from one another in the axial direction of the vessel. The lower part of the vessel is made as well as the upper part of the vessel.
The lower extension parts 18, 25 and 26, the electrodes 16, 20, 24 are but with these. not made from one piece. Rather, the extensions of the grid electrodes can be pushed into the appropriately designed electrode ends, while the two anode parts along flanges 27 and 28 can be welded to one another. This gives you the opportunity to manufacture the two parts of the tube separately and to join them together afterwards.
It may also be advisable to remove part of the tube, e.g. B. the one tube half made of glass.
