For the production of molds and cores for all-metal casting suitable compounds. In order to avoid drying of the molds used in iron and metal foundries and those made from sand or clay, possibly using binders, it has already been proposed to produce these molds from an underhydrated mortar.
In such existing mortar For men are now relatively thick Formwan applications and, as a result, large amounts of mortar conditions required or particularly in large castings. the individual parts of the mold walls made of mortar in be special shapes - shaped and then put together.
Due to their large wall thickness, especially when casting large and heavy castings, these molds rigidly under the effect of the casting heat in their entire cross-section to form such hard bodies that they are very difficult to remove from the easily damaged castings with great effort. quite apart from the fact that these concrete forms also prevent the castings from shrinking and thus easily give rise to cracks in the castings.
It has also been proposed to make the inner wall parts of the casting molds from coke-cement-concrete and the outer parts of the casting molds from normal sand-cement-concrete, the inner layer being more hydrated than the rest of the mold mass. In this way, special wall effects are achieved, on the other hand, the disadvantages described above cannot be eliminated by this shape design either. avoid.
For the production of cores, in particular those of larger dimensions, this known mortar mass has so far hardly been able to be used in practice. Even if the porosity and, thus, the gas absorption capacity of cores made from such concrete masses should in most cases meet the requirements made in this regard, the temperature required for the disintegration of these masses is so high that the disintegration of the resulting cores produced are made much too late and that the cores cannot give in to the shrinkage stresses in good time when the casting solidifies,
thereby causing shrinkage cracks in the castings.
In order to remedy the inconveniences associated with these masses when using a masses containing a binding agent that hardens with absorption of water, both for casting cores and for casting molds, it is proposed according to the invention to mix inorganic silicate compounds with a hydraulic binder. containing fibers in the form of loose balls or lumps.
Except molding compounds in which finely ground or. Fine-fiber short asbestos is to be used as a component, although one has already proposed such molding compounds before, in which in addition to ash and plaster or plaster. In addition to chamotte, ground wool should be used as a component.
If a certain loosening of the molding compound occurs due to ground or fine-fiber short asbestos as well as ground slag wool, a disproportionately greater porosity is achieved if the inorganic silicate-containing fibers are used according to the invention in the form of individual balls or lumps, because these individual balls contain relatively large amounts of air.
The use of inorganic, silicate-containing fibers, such as lump wool straight in the form of individual loose balls or lumps, however, not only results in an extraordinarily increased porosity of the mass - which can be up to 50 and more - and thus a high gas absorption capacity, but also it still has the considerable advantage
that especially in the production of molding compounds from hydraulic binders, the flexibility of the molding compound can be significantly improved and adapted to the respective casting conditions, so that the unhindered shrinkage of the castings is guaranteed without the compound being affected by the Casting heat decays prematurely.
Depending on the proportion of slag wool and the proportion of hydraulic binders, cores and molds of various strengths can be produced, so that, for example, a composition can be selected for cores that fully satisfies the casting pressure, but under the effect of the shrinkage of the castings can give in enough time without a complete disintegration of the mass under the effect of the casting heat has occurred.
For molds themselves, the new compound offers the advantage that, with an extraordinarily high gas absorption capacity, it can only be provided as an inner layer in a normal, e.g. However, it can also be used as an inner layer, for example. find in a porous permanent mold application.
In addition to slag wool, other mineral wool, such as glass wool, can of course also be used as inorganic silicate-containing fibers; It is essential in all cases that the inorganic fibers containing silicate bezw in lump or ball form. are contained in the form of small clusters of nests in the mass, since this ensures the high porosity of the mass on the one hand and the flexibility that is particularly important for cores on the other.
The best results are achieved when the production of the molds and cores BEZW. The preparation of the mass takes place in such a way that the already mixed with water hydraulic binder, for example in a drum, is added to the inorganic silicate-containing fibers, which are preferably agglomerated into individual loose lumps or balls in a manner known per se, whereupon the molds are made from this mixture and cores are made.
The inorganic silicate-containing fibers or the hydraulic binding agent or both can contain extenders, such as sand, slag, if possible in highly porous form, such as granulated granular slag or the like, or also propellants or gel-forming substances to improve density and strength to regulate the crowd. For the present purpose, for example, slag interspersed with melting pearls is suitable, since the melting pearls form part of the expanded materials here.
As much water can be used for the new molding and core material as is necessary to fully hydrate the hydraulic binder; However, in a manner known per se, a smaller amount of water which is not sufficient for complete hydration of the binder can also be used, so that drying of the size layers applied to the molds or cores, from which the water is removed from the not fully hydrated binder, is not required.
