Mold for continuous casting of metallic blocks or hollow bars. In the production of metallic blocks or hollow bars in the so-called "continuous casting" process, cooling molds are used that are cooled with water. The latter is passed through guide plates arranged inside the mold after it has entered the mold and then exits the mold again Cooling of the cast strand by the applied coolant takes place only indirectly via the inner mold wall as a heat exchanger, but an additional direct cooling of the strand after its exit from the cooling mold by water was also suggested.
This is possible by arranging holes in the lower bottom of the mold through which the cooling water trickles down the strand. However, this in turn has the disadvantage that the many individual cooling streams that hit the strand exert a spray effect which is disadvantageous for the strand in some respects.
The present invention relates to a chill mold suitable for continuous casting of blocks or hollow bars, in which the cooling water is discharged through an annular slot provided at the joint between the inner mold wall and the mold base. This ensures that the cooling water is discharged in a self-contained water jacket with effective cooling of the strand. In principle, the outlet opening can be at any possible angle to the strand.
However, an inclination of up to a maximum of 45 to the strand is particularly advantageous, because in this position it also excludes any dead cooling angle which cannot be avoided with the known cooling with holes made in the bottom of the mold.
The exit cross-section of this annular slot can appropriately be measured so that it is smaller or at least not larger than the cross-section of the inflow line for the Kühlwai-s, ier. This ensures that the chill mold always remains filled with the coolant without further aids such as throttles, etc.
The mold is expediently surrounded by a relatively small cooling chamber and the inlet cross-section of the cooling water connection and the outlet slot for the cooling water are dimensioned so that the cooling water is rapidly replaced within the cooling water. This is particularly advantageous because it avoids the risk of steam formation in the cooling water and thus also prevents the formation of scale.
A coolant container sealed against water leakage can be connected to the chill mold, in which the cooling water running down on the solidifying strand in a water jacket is collected and diverted from it.
In the drawing, a Ausführungsbei play the subject of the invention is illustrated.
In the space formed by the inner mold wall 2 of the cooling mold, liquid Me is fed tall by known means from above, which is not further indicated. This liquid metal solidifies in the cooling mold to form the metal strand 1, namely only an outer solid shell is formed in the mold, while the strand core itself still remains liquid. A cooling jacket 3 is placed around the inner mold wall 2, through which the cooling water passes into the cooling water space formed by the inner mold wall 2 and the cooling jacket 3 by means of a pipe socket 11.
The mold wall 2 is held in a central position by a plurality of screws 4 arranged on the circumference of the cooling jacket 3. The coolant passes into the coolant container 7 through the annular gap 5 which is formed between the mold wall 2 and the base plate 6. In the illustrated embodiment, the annular slot 5 forms an angle of 30 with the killing axis. The coolant that collects in the coolant container 7 flows through overflow slots 8 into the annular channel 9 and is diverted through the pipe connector 10. To the coolant passes through the annular gap 16 to he heavy, an air space 12 is arranged under the box 7, which is fed through the nozzle 15 fan air.
The static pressure of the fan air must be so high that it balances the liquid column h in the container 7. The sealing plate 13 with fastening ring 14, which is attached under the air box 12, has only the purpose of keeping the air consumption within moderate limits.
The inner mold wall 2 accordingly consists of a material with high thermal conductivity. Accordingly, copper is particularly suitable for casting copper and copper alloys, while aluminum and iron can also be used for the metals zinc and aluminum and their alloys in addition to copper.
When using iron as the material for the inner wall \? of the mold for casting zinc and aluminum, it is the strength of this iron inner wall with regard to the poorer ZV. to reduce.
Any conventional mold material can be used for the other components of the mold. The mold can be of any length. It can be used not only for casting full strands, but also for casting hollow strands using a known mandrel.
In the latter case, the internal cooling of the outer strand, known per se, by cooling water exiting the cooled mandrel can advantageously also be modified so that the cooling water of the mandrel for the purpose of internal cooling of the cast strand in the form of a self-contained water jacket, takes place through a narrow, annular slot provided at the joint between the lateral mandrel wall and the mandrel base.
The internal cooling of the strand is particularly strong and, above all, even. The ring slot has the great advantage that it limits possible warping and distortion of the mold to a minimum compared to such chill molds in which the jacket and bottom are made of one piece. You can determine the size of this ring slot from the start.
But you can also make the exit cross-section of this slot during the casting by changing that the inner mold wall 2 or the mold bottom 6 or both can be raised and lowered by known means.
