Man erhält 141 g reines Tetrahydrofuran.
Process for the preparation of Fon Tetrahydr ofur an. It has been found that tetrahydrofuran is particularly advantageous if 1,4-butylene glycol is heated to temperatures above 180, suitably above 200 ° C., in a mixture with water under pressure in the presence of water-releasing catalysts.
The reaction conditions are expediently chosen so that both the water and the 1,4-butylene glycol remain largely liquid. The favorable reaction temperatures are between 200 and 330 ° C., since within this range most of the reaction mixture can easily be obtained in the liquid phase and since little butadiene formation occurs at higher temperatures.
The minimum pressure to be applied in detail when working in the liquid phase corresponds to the vapor pressure of the ternary mixture of water-1,4-butylene glycol-tetrahydrofuran which is established at the working temperature. The pressure can also be chosen to be higher than the vapor pressure, for example by using an inert diluent gas.
Both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts can be used as dehydrating catalysts. Particularly suitable as heterogeneous catalysts are acidic salts, e.g. B. primary and secondary calcium phosphate, sulphates of heavy metals or acidic oxides, such as tungsten or molybdenum oxide and heteropoly acids. Oxides of aluminum, titanium or zirconium, silicic acid gel or fuller's earth are also suitable. If they are soluble, they can be added to the starting solution or placed firmly in the conversion vessel.
All organic or inorganic acids or acid salts which are soluble in aqueous butylene glycol solutions can be used as homogeneous catalysts; H. Acid reacting salts under the reaction conditions into consideration. The concentration of these substances is expediently chosen so that the solution has a pH value below 5, preferably between 2 and 3. Suitable acids are e.g. B.
Hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, formic acid and their next higher homologues, chloroacetic acids or oxalic acid. The amount of the catalytic converter is always less than the amount of water to be split off. In general, additions of a few percent, even fractions of a percent, are sufficient. z. B. 0.1-0.2%, based on the weight of the aqueous butylene glycol solution.
The water content of the butylene glycol starting solution is suitably between 30 and 80%. The process can be applied particularly well to 1,4-butylene glycol solutions, which are obtained by catalytic hydrogenation of butyne-2-diol-1,4 solutions, which are involved in the reaction of acetylene with an aqueous, about 35% strength formal dehydration solution arise.
The reaction is expediently carried out continuously, for example by first pressing the raw solution by means of a pump through a preheater and then through one or more pipes. Since the reaction is slightly exothermic, the heating of the reaction tubes can at best be dispensed with with a suitable throughput rate and good thermal insulation. After leaving the tube, the reaction mixture is brought into a column through valves in which it is tensioned, in which the tetrahydrofuran is separated from the water.
The parts given in the examples below are parts by weight, unless otherwise noted. Example <I> 1 </I> 1420 parts of 1,4-butylene glycol in about 35% aqueous solution are placed under a pressure of 120 atmospheres, preheated to about <B> 300 ° C and at one speed of 0.5 liters of solution per hour and liter of contact space at <B> 310 </B> C over active clay. Since the elimination of water in the liquid phase is slightly exothermic. heating is not required.
The mixture leaving the reaction vessel is depressurized and broken down into water and tetrahydrofuran in a distillation column. In the bottom of the distillation column the water originally contained in the mixture and formed in the reaction run continuously, while at the top of the distillation column a mixture boiling at 66 C and consisting of 96 weight percent tetrahydrofuran and 4 weight percent water withdraws.
This mixture can be converted into assei-free, pure tetrahydrofuran with a boiling point of 64.5 ° C. by stirring with sodium chloride and subsequent treatment with potassium hydroxide.
This gives 1090 parts of pure tetrahydrofuran, corresponding to a yield of 96% of the calculated amount. <I> Example 2 </I> - A 35% strength aqueous solution of 949 parts of 1,4-butylene glycol is mixed with 4 parts of phosphoric acid. then heated under pressure to <B> 290 '</B> C and passes the mixture under the set pressure and at a rate of 0.5 liters per hour to 1 liter of the reaction space through a heat-insulated pipe. The implementation is carried out at <B> 280 '</B> C. The pressure is 90 to 100 atmospheres.
When the reaction mixture leaving the tube is worked up in the manner described in Example 1, 747 parts of anhydrous tetrahydrofuran are obtained, corresponding to a yield of 98.5%.
Example <I> 3: </I> 2700 parts of a 35% aqueous a crude 1,4-biitylene glycol solution are added, such as is obtained from the condensation of formaldehyde and acetylene and subsequent HS = drainage, finite 8 parts of oxalic acid and 2 parts of phosphoric acid,
filtered from all precipitates formed, if any, and treated the mixture in the manner indicated in Beispie len 1 and 2. Tetrahydrofuran is obtained in a yield of 98.5%.
<I> Example </I> 540 g of an aqueous 35% 1,4-butylene glycol solution are mixed with 1-2 g of phosphoric acid and heated in a high-pressure vessel with a capacity of 2 liters for about 10 hours at 280 ° C., whereby a pressure of about 90 atmospheres. After cooling, the reaction mixture is fil trated and distilled. 141 g of pure tetrahydrofuran are obtained.
<I> Example 5 </I> 2'i'00 parts of a 35% strength aqueous crude 1,4-butylene glycol solution, such as those used in the condensation of formaldehyde and. Acetylene in the presence of copper acetylide and subsequent hydrogenation is obtained with 6-8 parts of phosphoric acid. The mixture is placed under a pressure of 120 atmospheres, preheated to about 230 C and passed through a heat-insulated pipe at a rate of 0.5 liters of solution per hour to 1 liter of reaction space at 235 ° C.
Since the elimination of water in the liquid phase is slightly exothermic, heating is not necessary. The mixture leaving the reaction vessel is depressurized and broken down into water and tetrahydrofuran in a distillation column. In the bottom of the distillation column, the water originally contained in the mixture and the water formed in the reaction run off continuously, while at the top of the distillation column a mixture consisting of 96 percent by weight of tetrahydrofuran and 4 percent by weight of water is withdrawn.
This mixture can be converted into anhydrous, pure tetrahydrofuran with a boiling point of 64.5 ° C. by stirring with sodium chloride and subsequent treatment with galium hydroxide. So he keeps 726 parts of pure tetrahydrofuran. <I> Example 6: </I> 540 parts of an aqueous 35% 1,4-butylene glycol solution are mixed with 2 parts of ammonium chloride and heated to 230 C for 12 hours in an iron high-pressure vessel of 2 liters.
A pressure of about 65 atmospheres is established. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered and distilled. He holds 142 parts of pure tetrahydrofuran.
