Method of making a stereophonic sound recording. The playback of stereophonic sound recordings usually takes place via two channels; accordingly, when recording such stereophonic sound, two sound recordings are made. It is true that more than two microphones were used during the recording; The channels emanating from the microphones always ended up in two recording devices, with the help of which two sound recordings were made.
According to the method according to the inven tion, on the other hand, more than n sound recordings are made when recording initially over a number of channels that is greater than n, where n is an even number that is greater than one; these sound recordings are then rewritten to n sound recordings, the distribution of the energies set in the several recordings being distributed over the n sound recordings according to the stereo effect desired during playback, e.g. B. according to the scene excerpt of the synchronous film, makes.
This process has the advantage that you can subsequently adapt the sound to the scene. It is well known who recorded the very often image scenes with several cameras at the same time and only used the cheapest image section for the playback film afterwards. Depending on the smaller or larger image section, you can then mix more or fewer sound tracks, specifically the sound tracks corresponding to the image section, with one another in the manner corresponding to the image section.
An exemplary embodiment of the method according to the invention is explained in the following description.
The drawing shows an image scene B in the over part, in front of which there are four microphones M2, M3, M4, which are preferably designed as directional microphones.
The microphones are connected via separate channels in which amplifiers V1, Y1, Y, ", V, are located, with sound recorders Al, A2, A $, A, the four separate audio tracks b'1 on a film strip F , S., 8.11 S.
During playback, these sound strips are scanned (regularly, of course, after developing and copying the film) via four photocells P1, P2, P ", P. The currents originating from these photocells are then mixed with one another and written using two recording devices A5, Ad um on two sound tracks SG, SB of the playback film W.
The photocell currents can be mixed by regulating the duplicate outputs of the amplifiers U1, U2, U8, U located in the photocell circuits, or in some other known manner.
The two sound tracks Sb and SB are then (usually after development and production of copies) scanned by two photocells Z1, Z, the playback apparatus and the photocell streams are supplied to two loudspeakers (or loudspeaker groups) L1, L, via two separate channels leads.
The mixture of the photocell currents originating from the photocells P1 to P, he follows according to the scene or the selected scene section. For example, when using an image which includes the entire scene B, the recording device A6 can record 75% of the current of the photocell P1, 50% of the current of the photocell P2 and 25% of the photocell P $ be brought in,
while the recording device AB is supplied with 100% of the current of the photo cell P "75% of the current of the photo cell P", 50% of the current of the photo cell P2 and 25% of the current of the photo cell P1. but preferably according to the hearing of an experienced sound mixer.
If a certain image section is selected, which moves much closer to the microphones M1 and M2 than the microphones M $ and M ,, it is possible to mix only a relatively small part of the currents from the photocells P $ and P into the recording devices. The individual tracks can be recorded on a carrier or on separate carriers when recording.
They are then preferably written together on a carrier, taking into account the energy distribution required for localization during playback. This is the most expedient method for sound film; with other carriers; B.
Records, magnetic tapes, it may be useful to rewrite the audio tracks for playback on two separate carriers. The carrier for the sound tracks for playback can be the screening film directly; but copies can also be made of it, for example by making the copy on a sound image film.
Of course, more than the four channels shown in the exemplary embodiment can also be used for recording, so depending on your needs five, six, seven or even a considerably larger number of channels can be used; the invention can also be used in the event that more than two channels are used for playback.
