I>(6) E - k</I> l(1 + ml sin w t) (1- wag sin c) <I>t)

Die Faktoren bunden sind. Die in Frequenz zu verviel fachenden Schwingungen werden gleichfalls der Primärwicklung 37 eines Transformators 35 zugeführt, wobei die Klemmen der Sekun därwicklung 39 unterschiedlich. mit den Git tern 13 und 15 des zweiten Gitterpaares ver bunden sind. Gewünschtenfalls können die Wicklungen 25 und 39 einen Teil desselben Transformators bilden;

Device with at least one discharge tube for frequency multiplication of electrical oscillations. The present invention relates to a device for the frequency multiplication of electrical oscillations which contains at least one discharge tube.
In the previously known devices of the type mentioned, the vibrations to be multiplied in the Fre frequency are fed to the input circuit of a device whose output circuit contains a circuit tuned to a harmonic frequency, from which an output oscillation of a harmonic frequency can be taken.
The invention aims to provide a simple device of the type mentioned, in which the use of tuned circles is not necessary and by means of the vibrations of a certain Fre quency with good efficiency in vibrations of a harmonic frequency can be converted while the frequency to be multiplied can be changed within wide limits without the need to readjust the device.
According to the invention, this goal is achieved by using a discharge tube with at least two control grids, to which the vibrations to be multiplied are supplied in phase opposition, the two control grids being supplied with such biases that the operating point is set on the straight part of the associated anode current grid voltage characteristic , while an output oscillation of harmonic frequency is taken from the anode circuit of the tube.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to some in the accompanying drawings Darge presented embodiments. 1 to 4 are circuit diagrams of four exemplary embodiments and FIG. 5 shows a curve by means of which the manner of operation is explained.
The device shown in FIG. Contains a discharge tube 7 with two control grids 9 and 11, a screen grid consisting of two parts 13 and 15, a cathode 17 and an anode 19. The frequency to be multiplied vibration is transmitted to the grids 9 and 11 via a transformer 21 supplied with a primary winding 23 and a secondary winding 2 5 in opposite phase. A tap of the) Vicklung 25, which is not in the middle, is via a preload battery? 7 connected to the cathode 17. The screen grid 13, 15 and the anode 19 receive suitable DC voltages from a battery 29.
In series with the anode circuit is a frequency-independent impedance, e.g. B. a resistor 31, the ends of which men 32 are connected to two output terminals.
The alternating voltages that occur across the halves of the secondary winding 25 and are fed to the grids 9 and 1l can be given by <I> (1) a </I> - [- <I> b </I> sin co < I> t, </I> and (2) c-dsinajt

, vo k is a proportionality factor that depends on the characteristics of the tube and on the constants of the various circles.
The first two elements represent DC voltages, while the last element represents an AC voltage with a frequency that is twice the frequency of the input AC voltage. If z. approaches to unity, the amplitude of the output AC voltage approaches half the amplitude of the input AC voltage.
It follows that at twice the frequency a significant output is represented where a. and c represent constant bias voltages that are supplied to the two grids 9 and 11 differently and are selected in such a way that the working point is set on the straight part of the associated anode current-grid voltage characteristic. In the case shown, these bias voltages are the same and the amplitudes of the two alternating voltages provided by b and d can be set as desired.
This is illustrated in Fig. 5, in which the one of the two grids to lead -AC voltage is shown. The ratio of the amplitude b to the voltage a before is called the "modulation factor" and with. denotes m1; is the modulation factor for the second alternating voltage
EMI0002.0036
and is denoted by m.
The output voltage E occurring across the anode resistor 31 is equal to the product of the voltages supplied to the grids 9 and 11, since these successively influence the electron flow to the anode; it follows from this: energy is conserved.
It should be noted that if Hzl <I> = </I> -rr @@, the component of the original frequency disappears, so that it is not necessary to have a selective network in the anode circuit tuned to twice the frequency to be attached to suppress the frequency that has not been doubled. The device described can therefore be used for doubling the frequency of vibrations, the frequency to be multiplied being variable within wide limits, without the need for readjustment of vibration circuits and the like.
Fig. 2 shows an embodiment by means of which the frequency of an oscillation is quadrupled. The device presented in this figure contains two devices connected in series according to FIG. 1, the output voltage of the first device, the frequency of which is twice the frequency to be multiplied, serving as the input oscillation for the second device in which the frequency is used again is doubled.
The two consecutively connected devices correspond completely to those of FIG. 1 and are provided with the same reference numerals, in the second device before with the addition of the letter a.
In Fig. 3, an embodiment is provided with which a quadrupling of the frequency can be obtained by means of a single tube. If the setting is correct, as with the devices shown in the previous figures, only four times the frequency occurs in the output circuit.
Here at a discharge tube with two pairs of control grids is used, including desired; if a tube of the type shown in Figs. 1 and 2 can be used when the parts 13 and 15 of the screen grid are led out separately from the tube, and the two grids obtained in this way will see ver with separate supply lines.
The oscillations to be multiplied in frequency are, as in FIGS. 1 and 2, fed to a transformer 21, the terminals of the secondary winding 25 being connected to the phase shifting network 33, which preferably causes a phase shift of 90 Grids 9 and 11 of the one pair of grids are <I> (6) E - k </I> l (1 + ml sin wt) (1- wag sin c) <I> t)
</I> (1 + m3 cos co t) (1- m., Cos uot)] The first two terms represent the voltages that are fed to the two grids 13 and 15, while the terms containing the cosine the the control grids 9 and 11 represent supplied phase shift enclosed voltages.
The factors are tied. The vibrations to be multiplied in frequency are also fed to the primary winding 37 of a transformer 35, the terminals of the secondary winding 39 different. with the grid tern 13 and 15 of the second grid pair are connected ver. If desired, the windings 25 and 39 can form part of the same transformer;
Furthermore, the network 33 can lie between the winding 39 on the one hand and the grids 13 and 15 on the other hand or in the supply lines to the primary winding of one of the transformers 21 and 35. At:
the described enclosed circuit are the vibrations to be multiplied in frequency the Git tern 9 and 11 respectively. 13 and 15 of each control grid pair are supplied in antiphase, while the voltage supplied to one grid pair is phase shifted by <B> 90 '</B> with respect to the voltage supplied to the other grid pair. The grids 13 and 15 receive a suitable positive supply voltage from a battery 29 by tapping the winding 39.
The bias of the grid 9 and 11 is ge supplied by a battery 27, while the output oscillation can be taken from a resistor 31.
The operation of the circuit described corresponds in principle to that of the device according to FIG. 1. The four grids 9, 11, 13 and 15 all influence the electron current flowing to the anode and the resulting anode current can be the product of the voltages supplied to the said grids be expressed.
Taking into account the phase relationships described, the following applies to the output voltage E ml, m2, m3 and m4 are again modulation factors. It should be noted that since the grid pair 13, 15 must be supplied with a suitable positive supply voltage, it is not arbitrary is variable, the amplitude of the alternating voltage supplied to this pair of grids must be increased accordingly so that the frequency to be multiplied no longer occurs in the output circuit.
The impedance between the grids 13 and 15 will be a little never driger than that between the control grids 9 and 11, but this can through
EMI0004.0002
The frequency of the AC voltage element is four times the frequency to be multiplied. Since this member is the only alternating voltage member, as with the devices of FIGS. 1 and 2, no selective networks are required.
By a suitable choice of the phase and the amplitude of the control grid pair 9, 11 and the grid pair 13, 15 supplied voltages, the device of FIG. 3 is ver usable for tripling the frequency, although the device described Vorrich preferably for generating ge even harmonics the input frequency is used.
Instead of the tube shown in Fig. 3, a multi-grid tube is preferably used in which screen grids are arranged between the AC voltage leading grids, through which a capacitive reaction between the grids is avoided. In the absence of this screen grid, the amplitudes of the grid pair 9, 11 respectively. 13, 15 supplied alternating voltages are preferably kept relatively low, so that ml, m2, m3 and <I> m, </I> are significantly smaller than 1.
An alternative solution is shown in Fig. 4, in which two tubes 7 and 7a of the type shown in Fig. 1 are used and in which the vibrations to be multiplied in frequency via a transformer 21 in antiphase the grids 9 and 11 and via a phase-shifting network 33, which preferably a phase shift of <B> 90 '</B> suitable dimensioning of the transformers 21 and 35 are compensated.
If the modulation factors na "mz, m3 and m, are all equal to <I> m </I>, then those terms that contain the frequency to be multiplied will be omitted after the elaboration of equation (7), so that only equalspa The alternating voltages supplied to the tube 7a are therefore in relation to the alternating voltages supplied to the tube 7 by <B> 90 '</ B in relation to the alternating voltages supplied to the grids 9a and 11a > phase shifted.
It can be seen from FIG. 4 that the tube 7a and the part of the tube 7 up to the last grid 41 are connected in a manner similar to the tube 7 in FIG. 1, so that in the same way a doubling of the frequency is brought about. In the anode circuit of the tube 7a there is a resistor 47 at which an alternating voltage of twice the frequency occurs, which is fed to your catching grid 41 of the tube 7 via a capacitor 43. The grid 41 is grounded via a resistor 45, the catching grid of the tube 7a is connected in the usual way. the cathode connected.
By the action of the grids 9 and 11 of the tube 7, the electron flow of this tube is modulated in the manner described in such a way that it contains a component of the doubled frequency; the electron stream is then again modulated by a voltage with twice the frequency, which is phase-shifted by 90 with respect to the voltage supplied to the tube 7, by the catching grid 41. The resulting electron current causes an output voltage at resistor 31 that contains only DC voltage components and one AC voltage component, the frequency of which is four times the original frequency.
The effect of the device according to FIG. 4 corresponds to that of the device according to FIG. 3, but the frequency is doubled once in a separate tube.
The advantage of the device according to FIG. 4 over the device according to FIG. 3 is that the frequency to be multiplied is fed exclusively to grids with a high input impedance, so that two separate input transformers are not required and the source which the in the frequency to be multiplied vibrations supplies, is practically not burdened.
