Incendiary and explosive projectiles, especially for aircraft defense. Predominantly for aircraft defense be certain projectiles have according to the previously known statements a spatially very limited effect as the explosion only occurs once after a certain period of time or after impact; in addition, they usually only have an explosive effect.
The present invention relates to an incendiary and explosive projectile, in particular for aircraft defense, which has individual projectile rings composed of cylinders, axially strung together, which are arranged on a central tube which has an axial channel for receiving an ignition means and at least one per projectile ring , also has a transverse channel intended to receive an ignition device, which opens into an annular channel,
from where on the one hand ignition channels lead into the cavities of the cylinder ring pieces filled with incendiary material, while on the other hand this ring channel is connected to cavities filled with explosives located under the projectile rings and between the cylinder ring pieces.
The projectile rings are separated by the Ex plosive effect of the explosive in the cavities under the projectile rings with the progress of the combustion of the ignition agent in the central tube and torn apart by the explosive effect of the explosive in the cavities between the cylinder ring pieces.
The arrangement according to the invention results in a direction of movement for the torn apart cylindrical ring pieces at the moment of their separation from the projectile core, which is the resultant of the projectile direction, the radial detonation direction and the tangential direction of the projectile twist.
This creates a scattering cone from each sabot after it has been separated. The tips of the individual cones lie one behind the other on the trajectory of the projectile, so that the entirety of the scattering cone forms a scattering cube. The bullet rings forming the bullet body are preferably welded to one another around the circumference. Likewise, the cylinder ring pieces can dernähten both on the Zylin, as well as on the upper radial seams be welded together.
In order to maintain the most favorable aerodynamic shape of the projectile remainder after the separation of the tempering head or of the respective front sabot, the latter can be conically flattened at the front and have a conical recess at the rear,
in which the conical flattening of the bullet ring underneath comes to lie.
For reasons of the strength of the floor, the butt joints between the cylinder ring pieces of the individual floor rings can be offset from one another.
In order to achieve rapid softening and final combustion of the cylinder ring pieces forming the bullet rings, the latter is advantageously made of a metallic material which burns when the fire material in the hollow spaces of the cylinder ring pieces burns off. Light metals and their alloys (aluminum, electron or the like) are particularly suitable for this purpose.
In the drawing, an example embodiment of the incendiary and explosive projectile according to the invention is shown, namely: Fig. 1 the projectile in elevation, partially cut along the line 1-I of FIG. 2, FIG. 2 the plan of the same in section along the line TI-II of Fig. 1, Fig. 3, the trajectory of the projectile, with an aircraft cutting the diffuser,
4 shows the floor plan of the diffuser in section along line IV-IV of FIG. 3 and FIG. 5 shows a detail of the projectile in section along line VV in FIG. 2. The projectile body has a projectile core a < / I>, which has a base plate b and a central tube c connected to it. The tempering head d is screwed to the central tube by means of the thread e.
Between the Tempierkopf d and the bottom plate b are concentrically arranged around the central tube projectile rings are provided, which are divided into cylindrical ring pieces f. The cylinder ring pieces are hollow and contain incendiary material g. The sabotage rings are flattened conically at the front and have a conical recess in which the conical flattening of the bar underlay the sabotage comes to rest.
Between the central tube c and the cylinder ring pieces f there are ring channels h and between the cylinder ring pieces of a cylinder ring the radial cavities i. Further cavities j are located under the cylinder ring pieces f. The ring channel h and the cavities i and j are connected to one another, the ring channel h with ignition compound u and the cavities i and j with explosives are filled.
A hollow space group h, i and j is provided for each projectile ring, which is separated from the following hollow space group h, i and j.
The separation is caused by the thickenings Ver k on the central tube and the frames Z on the cylinder ring pieces. From the central tube c, transverse channels s lead to the ring channels h; from each ring channel h an ignition channel t leads to the cavity g of the cylinder ring piece. The cylinder ring pieces are welded to one another at the cylinder seams m and at the upper radial seams u. The resulting bullet rings are welded together at the round seams.
In the central tube c is the ignition material o, which has a certain speed from burning. The temperature cap d can also contain r incendiary material in a chamber. At the projectile circumference, copper rings w are provided in the usual way, which run into the trains of the protection tube when fired.
The mode of action of the incendiary and explosive projectile described is as follows: After firing, the ignition material o located in the central tube c is ignited after a certain time interval determined by the setting on the Tempier hopf d, whereupon it is burned off. As soon as this has reached the first transverse channel s provided in the central tube c, which leads into the cavity lying above the first projectile ring, the tempering head d is separated from the projectile by an explosive effect.
If the ignition compound continues to burn in the central tube, the fire effect passes through the second transverse channel s to the fire material in the ring channel h and ignites the fire material g in the cavities of the cylinder ring pieces f through the ignition channel t provided on the cylinder ring pieces; at the same time, however, also between the projectile rings and the explosive lying between the cylinder ring pieces is ignited in the cavities i and j.
The pressure arising in these cavities, which has a large contact surface on the cylinder ring pieces, tears the weld seams 7n, n. and u apart and the cylinder ring pieces are thrown off the projectile in a scattering cone. The stand denoted by v in FIG. 3 is a function of the burning time of the ignition material in the central tube between two consecutive openings, from which it follows
that the timing of the explosions of the individual projectile rings can be varied through a suitable choice of the ignition material and the distances between two consecutive openings.
The incendiary material contained in the cylinder pieces is expediently chosen so that it ignites in approx. 1/2 '' of a second and develops so much heat that the cylinder ring pieces are bright red after about 1/2 '' second From fire-inhibiting addition, the total burn-off of the fire material in the cavities of the cylinder ring pieces should be delayed to approx. 20 to 30 seconds.
The material of the cylinder ring pieces should have the property that it softens quickly at high temperatures, so that when hitting the target they fall apart from a small blow and form a well-distributed source of fire.
The process described above is repeated every time the ignition breaks down through the transverse channels s of the central tube.
The main advantages of the incendiary and explosive projectiles described are seen in the fact that an approximate preliminary temperature is sufficient to bring the target into the area of the scattering area. By the fire effect of the cylinder ring pieces who ignited the aircraft parts. There is also a light trail in the form of the scattering beam, from which the position and direction of the shot can be recognized.
Another advantage is that the bullet has almost no ground splintering effect, since the cylinder ring pieces burn in the air, as already mentioned above.
