Transformer protection with primary-side protection relay. When designing and constructing transformers, emphasis is placed on using the materials to a large extent while maintaining the smallest possible dimensions, with a high level of iron saturation. When the transformers are switched on, there is generally an inrush current that is a multiple of the rated current.
This inrush current, which subsides within several dozen periods, would make the protective relay on the primary side of the transformer respond and shut off the transformer by opening the switch. To prevent this, the protective relays have been blocked during the switching process until now. This means that the transformers are unprotected during the switch-on process, which can be a major disadvantage.
The object of the invention is to create a device which, on the one hand, prevents the protective relay from responding due to the inrush current in transformers, and on the other hand, in the event of a fault during the switch-on process, the protective relay. activates so that the primary switch opens without the protective relay being blocked during the switch-on process. In solving this problem, use is made of the fact that the inrush current in transformers has a pronounced direct current component.
The subject of the invention is a transformer protection with a primary protective relay and a device to prevent the same from responding to inrush current surges, in which means according to the invention are present which distinguish the alternating current and direct current components of the surge current and bring them into effect that if a predominant DC component is present in the inrush current, the protective relay does not respond.
In the drawing, exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown schematically in FIGS. 1 to 4. In the figures, 1 denotes the transformer and 2 the switch on its primary side with the switching magnet 3. The protection relay is denoted by 4; it is fed from the current transformer 5 via the series resistor 7, but it can also be connected to the terminals. Shunt connected.
The choke coil @ 9 with a high alternating current resistance is parallel to the coil of the protective relay 4. Therefore, alternating currents are blocked by the choke 9 and pushed abge via the protective relay 4. The DC resistance of the relay.,.; Circuit is, however, a multiple of that of the choke. As a result of the high.
Saturation of this choke by the direct current component of the inrush current, the choke acts as a shunt to the protective relay in such a way that the response current of the relay is not reached. In the case of asymmetrical alternating currents, only the superimposed direct current is passed through the choke. while the @Version current is diverted via the protection relay. becomes.
For alternating current, the choke 9 in FIG. 1 represents a large resistance, as a result of which inrush currents with a predominant AC component are displaced from the choke and passed via the wide resistor 7 to the coil of the protective relay 4. so that the latter appeals. Inrush currents with a pronounced direct current component are, on the other hand, allowed through by the choke 9 so that the glass Sehutz rela.is 4 does not respond.
The distinction between direct and alternating current components in the inrush current can be brought about even more clearly if the resistor 7 in FIG. 1 is replaced by a capacitor 8, as shown in FIG. 2. The effect is the same for FIG. as described for FIG.
3 shows a further development of the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, in which the coil of a further relay 6 is connected in parallel with the coil of the protective relay 4, through which the inductance 9 lying parallel to the coil of the protective relay is short-circuited during normal operation. The inductance is designed here as an auxiliary current transformer 9a.
The relay 6 is advantageously designed as an instantaneous maximum current relay, which is also fed by the current transformer or shunt 5. Relay 4 can therefore only respond after relay 6 has spoken. This makes e "possible. Provide relay 4 for a significantly lower response current than relay 6.
The primary current transformer 5 can also be dimensioned for a smaller continuous power than in the arrangement according to FIG. 1, the mode of operation is. otherwise the same as in I 'ig. 1. Relay 6 can also be used as a protective relay for other devices, where this circuit gives special interest in various specialty areas, e.g. B. as a grid relay in power converter, # r systems.
Finally, FIG. 4 shows the use of a short-circuit relay 6 in an arrangement according to FIG. 2 with a capacitor in the relay circuit. The way of working and the effect are also essentially unchanged here.
