Hartmetallegierung.
Beispiel 3: 60 % Tantalkarbid, 22 0,7o Niobkarbid, 10 % Titankarbid, 7 0% Kobalt, 10%o Eisen.
Beispiel 6: 60 % Tantalkarbid, 5 % Titankarbid, 11% Niobkarbid, 20 % Wolframkarbid, 4 % Kobalt.
Beispiel 7: 8 % Tantalkarbid, 5 % Titankarbid, 80 % Niobkarbid, 4 % Nickel, 2 % Kobalt, 1% Eisen.
Hard metal alloy. The endeavor in the production of hard metal alloys, which are intended to be used for the machining of steel and steel-like materials, is on the one hand to make an alloy as hard as possible, which on the other hand has poor thermal conductivity. In the course of these efforts, hard metal alloys have been proposed that are predominantly made of tungsten carbide and also those that are predominantly made of titanium carbide.
For alloys of this type, contents of the most varied of other hard carbides have also been proposed, which are more or less successful in influencing the properties of the legislations in the sense mentioned.
Hard metal alloys have also already been proposed which contain considerable amounts of tantalum carbide which, together with a suitable auxiliary metal, result in excellent tough hard metal alloys. A disadvantage of hard metal alloys of this type has been found to be too low a hardness.
The purpose of the invention is to create a hard metal alloy that has the property of tantalum or. Niobium carbide uses auxiliary metals to bond to a tough hard metal body, but on the other hand is so hard with suitable additives that the alloy is suitable for use as a cutting tool for machining steel and steel-like materials, i.e. long-chipping materials.
The hard metal alloy according to the invention having these properties is characterized in that it contains 2 to 200o of at least one metal of the iron group, 5 to 30% titanium carbide and 50 to 930/0 of a carbide of at least one rare element of the fifth group of the periodic table, its atomic weight between 90 and 190 .
These are the names of the carbides of tantalum and niobium.
The metals of the iron group are iron, nickel or cobalt.
This alloy is due to the high tantalum or. The niobium carbide content is extremely tough and the titanium carbide content ensures that the lack of intrinsic hardness of the tantalum or Niobium carbides is balanced. The chosen target results in poor thermal conductivity, which is desirable for machining long-chipping materials. The resistance to oxidation is increased in an unexpected manner.
It has proven to be particularly expedient, in the presence of both carbides, d. H. of the tantalum and niobium carbides to bring them into the alloy in the form of mixed crystals, which in particular increases the inherent hardness of the base carbide (niobium-tantalum carbide).
In order to adapt the hard metal alloy to the most diverse demands when using it as a cutting tool in practical operations, the tantalum carbide can bezw. Tarital niobium carbide, titanium carbide and auxiliary metals containing alloy, according to the invention, additional carbides are added, which influence the thermal conductivity, resistance to oxidation, hardness, toughness and the like.
Tungsten carbide and chromium carbide, which essentially improve toughness, and zirconium carbide, which reduces thermal conductivity. Occasionally small additions of vanadium carbide can also be advantageous. These additional carbides can be present in the alloy in amounts up to 20%. If two or more of these carbides are added at the same time, their total should not exceed 20%.
A few examples of alloy compositions according to the invention which have proven to be particularly suitable are listed below. Example 1: 87% tantalum carbide, 8% titanium carbide, 2.5% nickel, 2.5% cobalt.
Due to its toughness, this alloy is particularly suitable for machining soft steels in interrupted cuts, i.e. H. the alloy is insensitive to mechanical stresses caused by impact and the vibrations caused by it. Example 2: 60% tantalum carbide, 30% titanium carbide, 10% cobalt.
With this alloy, the hardest steel. types such as nickel-chrome steels tempered to high strengths, hard manganese steels and the like are processed. This alloy has a high resistance to oxidation and retains its hardness even when the highest temperatures occur, so that this alloy can be used with particularly high cutting speeds.
Example 3: 60% tantalum carbide, 22 0.7o niobium carbide, 10% titanium carbide, 7 0% cobalt, 10% iron.
With its properties, this alloy forms a transition between the alloys according to Examples 1 and 2. The alloy can be used for machining all types of steel.
Example 4: 77% tantalum carbide and niobium carbide in the form of mixed crystals, in which the ratio of tantalum carbide to niobium carbide is preferably 2: 1 or 3: 1, 15% titanium carbide, 8% cobalt.
In terms of its properties, this alloy is also between the alloys according to Example 1 and 2, but is harder than the alloy according to Example 3.
Example 5: 50% tantalum carbide, 25% titanium carbide, 10% molybdenum carbide, 15% nickel.
This high hardness alloy is particularly suitable for finishing steels of all kinds.
Example 6: 60% tantalum carbide, 5% titanium carbide, 11% niobium carbide, 20% tungsten carbide, 4% cobalt.
This alloy is particularly tough. It is suitable, for example, for use on machines that generate strong vibrations.
Example 7: 8% tantalum carbide, 5% titanium carbide, 80% niobium carbide, 4% nickel, 2% cobalt, 1% iron.
This alloy is suitable for machining steels or long-chipping materials of medium hardness.
The properties of the alloys listed in the individual examples can also be influenced by modifying the auxiliary metal content within the intended limits, whereby the general characteristics of the alloys are not changed, but the breaking strength is increased or decreased.
