Eine Entfernung von bei Behandlung von Naturbraunstein mit Alkaliverbindungen teilweise adsorbiertem Hydratisierungsmittel kann aber auch dann erreicht werden, und zwar ohne weitere Ilydratwaeseranlagerung;
bezw. seohsdrei- viertelStunden Brenndauer:
Process for the production of a depolarization mass. The subject of the Swiss patent No. 18,6063- is a method for the production of a D, epo @ larization mass from natural brownstone, characterized in that, first of all, part of the MnO- contained in the brownstone, preferably 210 to <B> 2.5%, </B> is converted into M% 03 by roasting,
whereupon the Mn, 03 formed leached with acids or acidic salts and the dissolved manganese without separation from the residue as: Hydroxide by means of alkaline agents on the manganese dioxide. as the basic substance: is felled, whereupon this mixture of manganese oxide6 with oxidizing substances, na.ehb, is finally traded.
It has then been shown that any brownstone with per se less depolarizing power can be converted into a high-quality depolarizer in a much simpler way, namely by allowing it to be treated with water of hydration in a closed environment. Vessel at temperatures above <B> 150 '</B> C with solutions,
of alkali compounds and, if necessary, subsequently diluted to remove any adsorbed hydrating agent: allows acids to act.
The highly active ones obtained by acid treatment; Manganese dioxide can, however, only be stored for a limited time due to the increased water content of hydration and is, therefore, less used in cases where a long shelf life of the element is required.
A removal of hydrating agent partially adsorbed during treatment of natural brown stone with alkali compounds can, however, also be achieved without further deposition of Ilydratwaeser;
if, according to the invention, the aftertreatment of alkaline manganese peroxide hydrates is not carried out with dilute acid, but with solutions of ammonium salts at an elevated temperature.
For example, if you treat alkaline hydrated manganese dioxide respectively. alkaline synthetic manganese sulphate (hydroxide hydrate with a solution of an ammonium salt, e.g.
Ammonium chloride, ammonium sulphate, at an elevated, preferably boiling point, the adsorbed alkali is converted into an alkali salt that can be easily washed out with elimination of ammonia. There is no further increase in the hydrate water content in the treated hydrates.
Example: Treating 1000 g of an alkaline hydrated brownstone, the
EMI0002.0030
7-6.2,% <SEP> Mn02
<tb> 145 <SEP>% <SEP> NaOH
<tb> 1.5 <SEP>% <SEP> water of hydration, with 200 g ammonium chloride in an aqueous slurry at boiling temperature,
after washing out the chlorides and subsequent drying at about <B> 100 '</B> C, a product is obtained with
EMI0002.0040
85.7 <SEP>% <SEP> MnO,
<tb> 2.5 <SEP>% <SEP> NaOH
<tb> 1.5 <SEP>% <SEP> water of hydration.
The advantage of using this product for processing in batteries is that, in addition to high performance as a depolarizer, in contrast to the untreated alkali-containing hydrate, it guarantees excellent storage life.
Processed in a normal battery with a voltage of 4.5 volts, an untreated, alkaline hydrated brown stone with ten-minute current every working day draws over 15 ohms and a discharge of up to 2.25 volts and burns four hours.
If the unloading does not begin until after a storage period of three months under the above conditions,
so the burning time is reduced to three and a half hours. If a hydrated manganese dioxide treated with ammonium salt is used, this results in seven under the given discharge conditions,
respectively three-quarters of an hour burn time:
