MnO + 4MnS04 + 11 HZS04 4 MnS04 + 2,
KMn04 + 3 H20 = KZS04 + 3 H,804 + 5 Mn02. MnO Der Gesamtvorgang entspricht etwa folgender Gleichung:
5 MilOZ + 5 MUSO4 + 2 KMn04 + 4 H20 = lOMn02 . 2,MnO + 4 HZS04 + Kss04 Bei Verwendung von Manganatlösung er folgt die Manganomanganitbildung in glei- eher Weise, nachdem zuvor ,das Mauganat 3 K_Mn0, -I- 2. H,
S04 = 2 KMn04 -I- Mn02 . H20 + 2 KzS0@4 -I- H20.

Mn---- <SEP> .+ <SEP> Mn-- <SEP> <B>#-</B> <SEP> 2Mn#., bewirken.
Process for manufacturing a depolarizer for primary elements. In the primary element of the Leclanche type, a depolarizer is provided, which surrounds the positive electrode and the maintenance of an electrical: current, as long as the circuit is closed, allows. Natural brown stone or synthetic brown stone or a mixture of both have been used as the depolarizer.
The present invention relates to a method for producing a depolarizer, which is characterized in that particles of manganese dioxide are partially converted into a mangano-manganite.
The depolarization effect of a brownstone depolarizer had previously been ascribed to the content of active oxygen.
However, it has been established through experiments that the content of active oxygen is not or at most partially responsible for the depolarizing effect, but rather the content of trivalent manganese ions. However, it is not possible to have a sufficient concentration of trivalent manganese ions when using natural brown stem.
because this is not able to form enough trivalent manganions (manganese ions).
The depolarizer produced according to the invention forms a material which, in high concentration, sends manganese ions in solution. For this it is necessary that the depolarizer contains a manganomanganite.
whose MnO and MnO .. react with each other under the influence of H-ions to form manganese ions:
EMI0001.0056
Mn-- <SEP> + <SEP> Mn .... <SEP> <B>> </B> <SEP> 2 <SEP> Mn "<SEP>.
It was found that manganese ions are already supplied in sufficient concentration by a material of the aX0 type. bMnO. cMn02. y1120, which is superimposed around a core of natural brown em, where a, b, c and y represent numerical values and X is a salt-forming base, e.g. B, Ca, Ba, Sr, Mg, K, Na.
The new, improved depolarizer causes a higher voltage curve of the elements, and indeed for a longer period of time than the previous D: epolarisatoren, without its production costs being significantly increased.
According to an exemplary embodiment of the method, the finely ground manganese dioxide particles are reduced at least on their surface and then treated with a solution or suspension of an oxide, hydroxide and / or carbonate of an alkali or alkaline earth metal,
whereupon the manganese hydroxide formed during the reaction and not entered into the manganite, as well as any excess of the added oxide, hydroxide and / or carbonate is removed, e.g. B. by Lö solution or oxidation of the manganese hydrogen and solution of the added oxides.
The brownstone particles can. be reduced by a manganese salt solution, by hydrochloric acid, by sulfurous acid or a mixture of these with a ferrous salt or durel, heating the manganese dioxide in a hydrogen atmosphere at approx. 2:00 C and absorbing the reduction product in acid.
According to another exemplary embodiment, finely ground brown stone particles are reduced at least on their surface and then treated with a manganate or permanganate.
Some examples are described in more detail below, without wishing to restrict the invention to these: Very finely ground brownstone is boiled for about 1 hour in a manganese salt solution with a manganese amount of about 15% of that of the brownstone.
CgIeiumhydr- oxide or oxide is used to form the manganites or. Polymanganite added, in a small excess. The excess calcium hydroxide is replaced by ammonium salt according to the reaction Ca (O @ H) 2 + 2NH,
C1 = CaC12 + 2NH3 + 2H20 dissolved out and also manganese hydroxide with an abundant addition of salmiac salt. It is then filtered and the material thus obtained is washed, dried and finely chopped.
According to another embodiment, finely ground brownstone is treated as above and manganese hydroxide still present to form manganese dioxide or. its hydrate is oxidized, for example by air, chlorine,
Hydrogen peroxide and / or a manganate or permanganate solution. As a result, another layer of manganite is formed around the manganese dioxide cores, as Mn (OH) 2 oxidized to Mn (OH) 4 reacts with the still unchanged Mn (OH) 2, according to the equation:
Mn (OH) 4 + 2 Mn (OH) 2 = Mn02. 2 MnO + 4 H; 0.
If the excess of the alkaline agent is not water-soluble, the product is finally washed with dilute acid.
Instead of an X-Oxide or X-Hydroxide, a solution or suspension of an X-Carbonate can also be used.
It is also possible, when using manganate or permanganate solution, to forego the involvement of an X-Oxide, X-Hydroxide or X-Carbonate.
In this case, for example, finely ground manganese dioxide is treated with an acidic manganese salt solution for partial reduction and then treated with the manganate or permanganate.
The following reactions take place on the surface of the brown stone: 5 Mu0z + 5 MnS04 + 10 H, SO4 = 5 Mn2 (S04) 3 + 1.0 H20 5 Mn '(S04) 3 + hl H20 = 5Mn02. MnO + 4 MnS04 + 11 HZS04 4 MnS04 + 2,
KMn04 + 3 H20 = KZS04 + 3 H, 804 + 5 Mn02. MnO The overall process corresponds roughly to the following equation:
5 MilOZ + 5 MUSO4 + 2 KMn04 + 4 H20 = lOMn02. 2, MnO + 4 HZS04 + Kss04 When using manganate solution, the manganomanganite formation takes place in the same way, after previously, the mauganate 3 K_Mn0, -I- 2. H,
S04 = 2 KMn04 -I- Mn02. H20 + 2 KzS0 @ 4 -I- H20. The partial reduction of the manganese dioxide can be achieved by another suitable reducing agent, e.g. B. hydrochloric acid, sulphurous acid or simply by heating to over 500 C or to approx.
200 C in the presence of a reducing gas, z. B. in a hydrogen atmosphere, brought about. In the last two cases the reducing product is treated with acid and then further as above:
Does the brownstone naturally contain sufficiently lower oxides than Xn02, e.g. B. MnO, Mn203, Mn30 "a reducing agent is not necessary, but it is sufficient to dissolve the lower oxides in acid, eg H @ SO. Then hangan salts are formed, which the reduction
EMI0003.0038
Mn ---- <SEP>. + <SEP> Mn-- <SEP> <B> # - </B> <SEP> 2Mn #., Cause. The reaction mixture is then treated further as above.
Advantageously, complex-forming salts are added to the depolarizer. z. B. those .der hydrofluoric acid or orthophosphoric acid, with trivalent manganese in complex form, z. B.
Mn- -f- 5F '= [MnFs] ". It is then also expedient to provide means in the electrolyte of the primary element in order to protect the unstable Mauganiionen generated from the depolarizer against decay.
This can be done by using a high concentration electrolyte, e.g. B. So of a high concentration of NH, C1 and ZnC12, and / or by adding the salts before running, which form stable complex salts against decay.
Through the present invention, an acid that has been released into permanganate and hydrated manganese dioxide is decomposed, especially when the acid is intermittent:
charge sufficient amount of manganese ions formed for the oxidation of the hydrogen, which is created when the element is connected to the electricity supply.
In addition, a sufficient amount of mangano-manganites is supplied from the core of the ore and the manganese salt, the reduction product of the manganese ions, for the formation of manganese ions. It has been found that this regeneration is rapid in cold alkaline solution, i.e. in the pupa. runs.
Therefore the manganese ore can be used almost completely, while in the usual primary element of known type only approx. 50% of the manganese ore is consumed.
The new depolarizer is approx. 50% lighter in specific weight and much more dispersed than the previously used depolarizers.
