Description

Installation for drawing flat glass. In installations for the drawing of flat glass, operating with sawing machines, the glass being taken in depth during the drawing, the surface of the molten mass is practically not renewed; it cools, "freezes". Gradually this cooling spreads until it reaches the lower level of the sawing machines. At this time, the drawn glass is no longer of quality. It contains., Grains "or is divitrified. It is then necessary to stop the production and to" boil the pot ", that is to say to reheat the entire contents of the basin containing the frozen glass, using burners This operation results in the loss of about one in six days of production.

The object of the invention is an installation for the drawing of flat glass, characterized in that it comprises at least one sawing machine, as well as electric radiant heating bodies, arranged to maintain the surface of the mass of molten glass 1_a temperature necessary to prevent cooling which may propagate and interfere with the continuity of the drawing process. The figure of the drawing shows, diagrammatically, by way of example and insofar as the understanding of the invention so requires, an installation according to the invention.

a is the masonry of a basin containing the glass to be drawn, b a cutter, c a sheet of glass drawn by a machine not appearing in the drawing, <I> d '</I> coolers intended to freeze the glass , when it comes out of the biting machine. It goes without saying that several debtors could cooperate with the basin a.

Two heating bodies g and j, each representing a possible embodiment, are arranged between the cutter and the masonry of the basin. They are based on the debtor, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, in a Yz housing, respectively on a nose <I> k </I> of the walls of the basin. The construction of these heaters is such that practically all of the heat which they give off radiates against the bottom, that is to say against the surface of the molten glass.

In this way, they do not heat the drawn glass sheet e, and do not counteract the effect of the coolers <I> d '. </I> These heaters are preferably adjustable so as to be able to maintain an appropriate temperature at the surface of the glass and thus avoid the periodic heating operation of the glass contained in the basin.
