Handelt es sich um ein gefäss mit metallenen Wandungen, @o emp- fiehlt es sich, als Kühlflüssigkeit .eine F his- sigkeit zu -wählen, welche keine oder nur wenig freie Wasserstoffionen enthält, um zu verhindern, dass Wasserstoffionen bei Er wärmung der Kühlflüssigkeit aus dieser durch die Metallwandungen in das eigent liche Vakuumentladungsgefäss diffundieren und dort eine dauernde Verschlechterung des Vakuums zur Folge haben;
Fig. 1 zeigt den ganzen Gleichrichter mit den Kondensoren im Längsschnitt, der längs der Linie I-I der Fig. 2 geführt ist; Fig. 2 zeigt einen Querschnitt längs der Linie II-II der Fig. 1; Fig. 3 zeigt eine zweite Ausführung eines Initialsieders; die Fig. 4 und 5 stellen Ausführungen von Initial.siedern dar, bei denen besondere Mit tel zur Begünstigung des Siedevorganges \'vorgesehen sind;
Process and device for operating evaporative coolers, especially for vacuum discharge vessels. It is known to use evaporative coolers for cooling vacuum discharge vessels and other apparatus, as well as liquids. In order to ensure that the used cooling liquid boils continuously for a certain load at one and the same temperature, it has been proposed to isolate the cooler together with the associated condenser from the atmosphere.
As practice has shown, this measure is not yet sufficient, because most of the boiling liquids that can be considered in practice have the ability to dissolve considerable quantities of foreign gases. During the boiling process, some of these gases are then released and form a .the condensation surface of the gas cushion in the condenser. The consequence of this is that the vapor layer in the condenser and thus the temperature of the boiling liquid rise.
According to the invention, this deficiency is remedied in that the cooling liquid is degassed.
This degassing is expediently carried out by means of a special apparatus before the cold rooms are filled. There are various ways of carrying out the gasification. For example, the liquid to be degassed can be brought to the boil under reduced pressure, creating free surfaces inside the liquid due to the formation of vapor bubbles. The foreign gas contained in the interior of the liquid also escapes at these free surfaces and can be sucked off from time to time from the vapor space located above the boiling liquid, for example via a cooling template.
Furthermore, the liquid to be degassed can be allowed to run down in the form of a thin layer over inclined surfaces inside an evacuated vessel. The gases dissolved in the liquid then emerge from the surface of the thin layer and can be sucked out of the gas space from time to time and preferably via a cooling seal. .
Degassing can also take place in the cooling system itself by connecting the condenser of the cooling system to a vacuum pump via a cooling template, and the cooling liquid to be degassed, for example, by normal loading of the apparatus, in particular the mercury vapor rectifier. is brought to the boil. With this method, the degree of degassing can be determined from the amount of gas that is sucked off per unit of time by the vacuum pump connected to the condenser.
Instead of a cooling seal between the vacuum pump and the liquid to be degassed, an absorption vessel, for example with active carbon or silica gel, can also be inserted.
The degassing outside the actual cold rooms in a special degassing apparatus can also be done by centrifuging or foaming the liquid. This is achieved in that a gas that is insoluble in the liquid is blown in in a sharp jet or the liquid is thrown by a centrifugal wheel.
The degassing should expediently be carried out to such an extent that only a few percent of the cooling surface in the condenser becomes ineffective against complete degassing.
It is expedient to degas not only the boiling liquid but also the cooling spaces, possibly together with the condensation spaces, before the liquid is poured in. This degassing of the cooling spaces, possibly together with the condensation rooms, can be carried out together with the degassing of the actual vacuum vessel in the case of a vacuum discharge vessel which is degassed at higher temperatures, for example from 3.00 to 400 ° C. The degassed cooling liquid is then preferably filled into these degassed spaces under vacuum.
If it is a vessel with metal walls, @o it is advisable to choose a liquid as the cooling liquid that contains little or no free hydrogen ions, in order to prevent hydrogen ions from heating up when the cooling liquid is heated diffuse from this through the metal walls into the actual vacuum discharge vessel and there result in a permanent deterioration of the vacuum;
Depending on the temperature range in which the cooling should work, suitable liquids can be benzene, toluene, xylene, trichlorethylene, acid-free oils, carbon tetrachloride, tetrachloroethane, acetone, carbon disulfide, aniline, methyl ether, ethyl ether, methyl chlori.d , Methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol.
It is important that the walls of the vessel are not attacked by the liquid and that the liquid does not decompose in contact with the walls and that permanent gases are formed.
In addition to water vapor, ammonia and carbonic acid, such liquids also dissolve permanent gases, e.g. B. nitrogen, oxygen, carbon oxide, hydrogen, etc. All these gases can be removed completely or in any case practically sufficient by the methods described NEN.
When starting up such a boiling cooler with degassed boiling liquid, a delay in boiling became noticeable in some cases. Degassed liquids can show an extraordinarily pronounced delay in boiling. The degassed liquid can be heated 20 to 50 and more degrees above its boiling point without boiling. But if the unstable equilibrium is disturbed by any cause, then boiling and the development of vapor begin explosively. This violent development of steam can lead to vibrations in the vessel, which endanger the construction.
Furthermore, an intermittent function of the boiling cooler caused by lever action is often not permissible, since in such an operation the surface to be cooled constantly changes its temperature between an upper and a lower limit, while the requirements of operation in the generally require the maintenance of a more or less constant temperature.
To avoid this delay in boiling, the following additional means can be used. For example, small amounts of gases that easily mix with the boiling liquid in question can be added. For example, helium can be mixed with benzene, in fact just as much as is necessary to cancel the boiling delay. Furthermore, the liquid can be sand-like, in particular porous bodies, in amounts. Pieces of clay, coal, for example coke, chalk, etc. can serve as such bodies.
This porous body are only effective as long as; when the liquid is not degassed to a very high degree.
For a liquid that has been degassed to a very high degree, it is found to be particularly effective to arrange one or more initial boilers in the liquid. These initial boilers can consist, for example, of an electrical heating coil, which strongly warms the cooling liquid at one point. If heat is supplied to the liquid in sufficient density through a wall element, however small, then the liquid begins to supply it at this point. The vapor bubbles rising from this point are suitable in the entire liq sigkeitsgebiet that is swept by them to cancel the boiling delay.
It is therefore expedient to arrange such an initial boiler in the area of the lowest point of the boiling cooler. so that the vapor bubbles rising from this point traverse the largest possible volume of liquid and reach the surface. In the accompanying drawing, for example, a mercury vapor rectifier with an evaporative cooler operated according to the method according to the invention is shown.
Fig. 1 shows the entire rectifier with the condensers in a longitudinal section, which is taken along the line I-I of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 shows a cross section along the line II-II of Fig. 1; 3 shows a second embodiment of an initial boiler; 4 and 5 represent versions of Initial.siedern, in which special With tel are provided to favor the boiling process \ ';
Fig. 6 shows the upper part of the rectifier, on which special aids are also provided to favor the boiling process.
1 is the mercury mirror of the rectifier serving as the cathode and 2 are the six anodes. The vacuum vessel consists of an upper part 8 and a lower part 4. In the upper part 3 are the anode poor forming tubes 5 and the condensation of the main amount of mercury evaporating at the Ka method 1, the dome 6. The anode arms 5 and the dome 6 are flushed by the cooling liquid 7 to. In the lower part 4 a guide tube 8 is arranged above the cathode 1, which guides the mercury vapor from the cathode to the condensation dome 6. The lower part 4 is cooled by the cooling liquid 9.
The walls of the cooling chambers in the lower part and upper part of the vessel can be degassed when degassing the apparatus in exactly the same way as the actual discharge room, for example through the nozzle 10. From one anode 2 to the cathode 1 is the path of the arc indicated by a dashed line. The liquid, for example trichlorethylene, degassed before filling in the manner described above, can then be filled in under vacuum through the nozzle 10, which is closed by any method, for example by squeezing and soldering.
The vapor produced when the degassed liquid is boiled passes through the tubes 11 and 11 respectively. 12 in the condensers 13 respectively. 14. These condensers are nothing else than blind-ended branch pipes connected to the main steam line, which expediently have cooling fins on their surface and are arranged in an air shaft 15 and cooled by the fan 16; The condensation rooms are also appropriately degassed.
In order to avoid delayed boiling in both the lower and upper cooling space, initial boilers are installed. In the lower cooler 4, the initial boiler consists, for example, of a tube 17 which is arranged near the bottom, is immersed in the liquid and ends blindly and in the interior of which an electrical heating coil 18 is arranged. The heating coil is located in this arrangement on the side of the free Atmo sphere and transmits through the tube 17 a heat flow that is sufficient to bring the liquid to the boil locally.
If necessary, several such initial boilers can be arranged near the bottom of the lower cooler.
The execution of the initial boiler can. also take place according to FIG. 3. Here the heating coil 23 is placed around the outside of the protective sleeve 17, the content of which is connected to the cooling space 9 and is warmed so much that it causes bubbles to form. comes.
A different design for the initial boiler is used near the bottom of the upper cooler. This consists in that an electrical conductor 19 is insulated and inserted into the boiling liquid and allows a heating coil 20 located in the boiling liquid, the other end of which is connected to the metal vessel, to be heated. This arrangement has the advantage that only very small energies are required to operate the initial boiler and to eliminate the delayed boiling.
It can. of course, both initial boilers are carried out equally in some suitable way. An initial boiler requires less energy, the more the formation of a rising liquid film cooling the boiler is prevented. This can be achieved in that, as discussed in FIG. 4, downwardly directed sheet metal strips 21 are provided on the protective sleeve 17 of an initial boiler. These form cavities in which bubbles can arise and hold.
The bubbles are the starting points of the boiling process.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 5, the same effect is achieved in that the bottom part 22 of the protective sleeve 17 is drawn in, so that a cavity is created.
Such cavities, which promote boiling, can also be attached to cooling surfaces on which a particularly large amount of heat is released, such as for example on the outer surface of the dome 6 or on the anode arms 5. For example, this can be done by turning a groove or by placing sheet metal strips 24, 25.
Instead of electrically heated initial boilers, bodies heated in other ways can also be used to initiate the boiling process.
