Process for the manufacture of an emergency propellant. The invention relates to a method for producing a motor propellant, in which a mixture consisting essentially of hydrocarbons of the luminous oil fraction of petroleum is treated with ozone.
A mixture of such hydrocarbons (with or without the addition of alcohol), which still contains small amounts of a substance that promotes ignition, such as acetone saturated with acetylene, is mixed with ozone under an overpressure of 2 IA atm. treated.
In addition to the treatment of the whole mixture with ozone, individual components of the mixture, in particular the additives which promote ignition, can be subjected to treatment with ozone under excess pressure.
To carry out the process, one proceeds, for example, as follows: A hydrocarbon mixture, consisting for example of 80 parts by volume of heavy hydrocarbons, such as petroleum, solar oil, gas oil and the like, is filled into a pressure vessel equipped with a stirrer, which can be sealed airtight B> 5 parts by volume of low-boiling hydrocarbons, such as light gasoline or light benzene, and 15 parts by volume of medium gasoline or medium benzene whose boiling range begins around the end of boiling of the low-boiling hydrocarbon and around the beginning of boiling of the high-boiling hydrocarbons ends,
so that a boiling curve that rises as evenly as possible is ensured. An oxygen carrier, such as nitrobenzene, or an oxygen carrier, such as turpentine oil, or a mixture of these products, approximately one part of the volume of the total mixture, is added to this mixture.
With the pressure vessel closed and stirring continuously, this mixture is treated with ozone under excess pressure for about one hour, the pressure in the kettle being reduced to about 21/2 atw. and the agitator is kept moving until the pressure in the pressure vessel is gradually relieved of pressure again to atmospheric pressure. The mixture treated in this way is now left to rest for some time, for example for about an hour, and then the precipitate formed is removed.
Before treating the mixture with ozone under excess pressure, certain small amounts of a substance favoring ignition, such as ether (ethyl ether), Egsigäther, acetone or the like, respectively. Mixtures of such substances, in particular acetone saturated with Aze, added to facilitate the starting of the engine with the new engine propellant. The addition of these ignition-promoting substances also enables the engine to start with your propellant without the addition of light and medium petrol.
Alcohol which has expediently been suitably pretreated can also be added to the mixture of hydrocarbons of the luminous oil fraction. This pretreatment, for example, consists in mixing the alcohol with about 5 percent by volume of benzene, tolanol or xylene and about one percent by volume of oil and concentrated aqueous to this mixture Add ammonia solution.
In a known manner, if necessary, the prepared according to the invention. Small amounts of anti-knocking agents, such as aniline or the like, are added to the engine propellant.
The practical usability of engine propellants manufactured according to the new process has been proven by laboratory tests, driving and test bench tests, each of which extends over a long period of time, comparing test series with differently composed operating materials, as well as with different types of carburetors and engines. Outwardly, these motor propellants are characterized as clear, easily ignitable liquids that are flammable with a glowing flame and have a neutral reaction. The fuel mixes with ether, benzene, chloroform, absolute alcohol, turpentine oil and automotive oils in all proportions. No segregation of the fuel was found.
Substances that attack metals, especially mineral acids, were not present in the operating material. In the driving and test bench tests, economical fuel consumption, a good start of the engine and the reduction of the initial smoke formation after starting with increasing warming to a level admissible for practical operation were determined.
When the carburetor was throttled in the range of 60 to 80 km hourly speed, performance increases over the entire measured speed range and a lower consumption of fuel were found compared to operating the same car with IVI fuel. After contact lines of 100 km and 150 km, no lubricating oil dilution beyond the normal level had occurred.
In comparative engine tests with variously composed and pretreated operating materials, in particular with and without the addition of oxygen carriers, respectively. Oxygen carriers, as well as with and without the addition of small amounts of substances that promote ignition, such as acetone saturated with acetylene, and with and without treatment of the mixture with ozone under excess pressure, the surprising superiority of the Lind treated according to the new process Hydrocarbon mixtures ozonated under excess pressure can be properly detected.
This superiority consists on the one hand in the safe and rapid start-up, in the regular running of the motor in continuous operation and, apart from the advantages of the motor propellant mentioned earlier, in the high torque achieved with it.
Even if the production and use of engine propellants from hydrocarbons of the luminescent oil fraction with the addition of ignition-promoting substances as well as the ozone treatment of engine propellants was already known, one obtains that in addition to the addition of ignition-promoting substances carries out an ozone treatment under pressure, a motor propellant which, as comparison tests have shown, has significant advantages over the known.
