Device for volume control in radio reception systems. The invention relates to a device for volume control in radio n means of a differential capacitor, as is used in this device, the amplitude of the vibrations acting on the grid of one of the tubes can be controlled.
This type of regulation offers various advantages over the type of regulation in which the negative bias voltage of at least one grid of the high-frequency tube is changed and has the advantage, among other things, that the so-called cross modulation, which is a consequence of the fact that the Tubes work in the curved part of the characteristic. It has already been proposed to use differential capacitors for volume control.
The problem with the known capacitors is that they influence the tuning of the device and that the volume is difficult to reduce to zero. In many cases a substantial weakening of the amplitude of the incoming vibrations is required, for example if the receiver is located near a transmitter.
The invention now consists in a device which can be designed in such a way that the above-mentioned inconveniences are eliminated.
A differential capacitor generally has three plates, two of which are stationary, while the third is movable. According to the invention, the arrangement of these plates is now such that the stationary plates BEZW with the antenna. are connected to the ungrounded point of the input circle, while the third, arranged between the planes of the two stationary plates plate is connected to the earth. It can be achieved in this way to adjust the volume to zero.
The movable plate may have a dielectric part which slides in between the stationary plates when the conductive part is pushed out and vice versa. Because the dielectric part is given a certain thickness and a certain dielectric constant, it can be achieved that the capacitance between one of the stationary plates and the movable plate decreases as quickly as the capacitance between the stationary plates increases and vice versa. The sum of these capacities always remains constant in this case.
The drawing illustrates the subject matter of the invention, for example.
Fig. 1 shows the inclusion of a differential capacitor of the known type in the antenna circuit of a radio receiver, and Fig..2 shows an embodiment of a device according to the invention for volume control; Figure 3 is a schematic section through the capacitor used in Figure 2; FIG. 4 shows the design of the individual plates of the capacitor according to FIG. 3.
In the arrangement of Fig. 1, a differential capacitor .der known type is turned on in the antenna circuit of a radio receiving device. This capacitor consists essentially of three plates 1, 2 and 3, of which the plate 1 is movable and connected to the ungrounded point of the A input circuit. The plate 2 is connected to the earth and the plate 3 to the antenna.
If the plate 1 is set in such a way that the capacitance between the plates 1 and 3 has its maximum value, the capacitance between the plates 1 and 2 has its minimum value and the vibrations coming from the antenna and acting on the grating of the first tube are thus the strongest. The volume is set to the maximum in this case. In the opposite case, the volume has its minimum value. However, the volume cannot be brought down to zero in all cases, as there is always a small capacity between disks 1 and 3.
According to FIG. 2, a differential capacitor is switched into the antenna circuit, by means of which the aforementioned disadvantage is avoided. In this case, the conductive part 2 of the movable plate is earthed, for example by being directly connected to the earth terminal of the device. The connection is expediently made as short as possible.
The stationary plates 3 and 1 are BEZW with the antenna. connected to the non-earthed point of the input circuit of the receiving device. The plate connected to the earth can be moved between the stationary plates and expediently has a slightly larger surface than this, so that in the zero position the antenna is completely shielded from the input circuit of the device. However, the volume control must not have any influence on the tuned input circuit.
The antenna capacity is now generally quite large, and under this condition the influence of the volume control on the tuning can be kept small if the condition is also met that the sum of the capacities between the plate 1 and the part 2 and between the plates 1 and 3 always remains constant. For this purpose, the movable plate is provided with a dielectric part 4.
If the conductive part 2 of the movable plate is pushed out, the capacity of the plate 1 with respect to the movable plate decreases, while the capacity of the plate 1 with respect to the plate 3 increases. However, since the distance between plates 1 and 3 is greater than that between plate 1 and part 2, if there were no dielectric, the increase in capacitance between plates 1 and 3 would be smaller than the decrease in capacitance between rule be the plate 1 and the part 2.
The combined with the part 2 and acting as a dielectric part 4 reduces, as it were, the distance between the plates 1 and 3. By correct choice of the dielectric constant and the thickness of the part 4 can be achieved that the increase in capacitance between the Plates 1 and 3 are just as large as the decrease in capacity between the plate 1 and part 2).
In the embodiment of the capacitor shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, a screen 5 is arranged around the plate 3, which is connected to the antenna, which like the plate part \? is connected to the earth, which counteracts the generation of a stray field. The plates 1, 3 and the plate parts 2, 4 have a semicircular shape, and the plate part 2 is zR # eck- wise larger than the plates 1 and 3 ge. The movable plate 2, 4 is rotatable about a shaft. 6 and 1 are panels made of insulating material to which the stationary panels are attached.
