Apparatus for the core impregnation of textile articles, such as wicks; yarns, twists, cords, weftless fabrics, fabrics, ribbons etc. The present invention relates to an apparatus for the core impregnation of textile articles, such as wicks, threads, twists, cords, weftless fabrics, fabrics, ribbons, etc., with an elastic substance in the form of a dispersion or of solution.
This apparatus comprises at least two receptacles, one of which is intended to contain the impregnation liquid and the other has a perforated central tube connected to the first receptacle and around which the articles to be treated, the articles must be placed. two containers being linked to vacuum and compressed air conduits comprising these valves, all arranged so as to allow. to circulate the liquid from the first container to the other, passing it through said perforated tube,
exerting pressure on the liquid in the container containing the articles to be treated and exerting a vacuum on these articles once the liquid has returned to the first container. The impregnation liquid can be an aqueous dispersion of an elastic substance such as rubber, gutta-percha or balata.
The aqueous dispersion can be natural (natural latex) or result from the dispersion of the coagulated elastic material.
The rubber it contains can be of natural or synthetic origin, ± it can be vulcanized or not, it can come from regenerated waste.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically, by way of example, one embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention. This form consists of two receptacles a and b. The container a, which is self-closing, is closed with a number of clamping bolts c. In the axis of the container is disposed a perforated tube f on which the reels of flexible and perforated mandrels e are threaded and held. clamped by plates l and m and a fixing device g - The receptacle b, intended to receive the impregnation liquid, is fitted with a level tube x and communicates by a pipe fitted with a tap h with a filling tank i.
The bottom of container b is connected by a pipe k with tap j to the tube f of container a. ii, is a tap placed on the cover of the container a. The latter is connected to a vacuum pipe o by a pipe with valve p and to a compressed air pipe x by a pipe with valve cq. The conduits o and r communicate with the receptacle b by valves u and s respectively.
The upper part of the container b is in communication with the lower part of the container a by a pipe provided with a valve t. v is a tap that makes the upper part of the -b container communicate with the atmosphere. , To impregnate textile articles by means of the apparatus shown, one can proceed, for example, as follows: The yarn to be treated is wound on the spools d. Or, if it is in skeins, these skeins are bundled and placed around the central tube f.
The receptacle b receives the impregnation liquid, the level of which can be observed by the tuber, at levels x and be maintained at a suitable height - by the set of the tap h placed on the pipe: which communicates the receptacle < I> b with the filling tank i.
The receptacle b being supposed to be filled with impregnation liquid, after closing the valve j which makes it communicate with the receptacle a, the coils d of thread are placed to be impregnated in the container a by threading them on the central tube f. This tube f communicates through the pipe k with the container < I> b by the tap j. The coils are immobilized between the two plates l -et na au. means -du device, fixing g, then the lid .du container a is closed by means of bolts c.
The valve n. Which allows the receptacle a to communicate with the atmosphere is closed and this receptacle a is placed in communication with the vacuum line o in. opening the tap p. The valve q. Which connects the container a with the compressed air line r, as well as the cocks, which communicates this line with the container b, the valve t </ I> which puts the upper part of the receptacle b in communication with the lower part of the receptacle a. and the valve u which communicates the receptacle b with the vacuum line o, have been closed beforehand.
The vacuum is transmitted to the receptacle a, the air which was contained between the fibers of the threads of the spools d becomes scarce and escapes outside the spools and of the threads. Once a vacuum deemed sufficient has been reached in the container a, the valve v is opened, -which makes the upper part of the container b communicate with the atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure is exerted on the free surface of the liquid \ in the container b and, the valve j having been opened, the impregnating liquid enters the 7th container a. Which it fills.
The robi net p is then closed and the valve s is opened, so as to cause the compressed air to arrive on the surface of the impregnation liquid in the container b. The impregnation liquid which has already begun to penetrate under the effect of atmospheric pressure inside the threads contained in the container a, is compressed and its penetration continues under the effect of a pressure. superior.
When it is judged that - the impregnation of the threads is sufficient, the valve s is closed and a vacuum is created in the upper part of b by opening the valve u. At the same time, the valve n is opened so that atmospheric pressure can be established on the impregnation liquid in a. .Under the action of vacuum and atmospheric pressure, the impregnation liquid rises through the valve J in the receptacle b.
If you prefer, instead of opening the tap n, the tap q can be opened, so as to accelerate the passage of the impregnating liquid from a to b. We can in the same way , by opening the tap t, pass the impregnation liquid more quickly from a to b.
We can then, after having closed the valves t and j,. 'The valves p, n and q remaining closed, make the vacuum act in the container a, which will have the effect of exuding - of the spools of thread, the excess impregnation liquid.
The operation can be repeated two or three times, which is very rapid. The yarn of each spool is completely impregnated intimately.
The coils are dried, preferably in a vacuum, to promote drying and allow operation at higher temperatures.
The wire, once completely unwound, stripped of the suspension, dispersion or dissolution liquid of the rubber can, for example, be vulcanized.
Impregnation on a coil is preferable to impregnation on hanks, the resistance to the passage of the liquid favoring its penetration into the core of the yarn.
The son impregnated with rubber or elastic materials, as has been said, can then be assembled into twists, before drying, before or after coagulation, by ordinary spinning processes. These twists will then be cabled if necessary either before or after drying and coagulation.
The yarns thus obtained can be used in the rubber industry as insert textiles in the form of “web cord” for tires or braids for pipes or in the form of fabrics.
For this purpose, the impregnating rubber will have received suitable fillers and vulcanization elements.
These wires will weld much better to the rubber mass of the article of manufacture than ordinary rubberized wires on the face.
The yarns obtained after the treatment described can be woven, the fabric then being vulcanized either hot or cold by the usual means. These fabrics, made of absolutely impermeable threads, will also be impermeable to water while remaining permeable to air. Such fabrics can also be obtained by weaving yarns previously vulcanized.
As indicated above, the deep impregnation, using vacuum or pressure or both of these means -combined, can be carried out on the threads previously assembled in the form of fabrics. , for example, or beams (to obtain the "web cord" used in the manufacture of tires) or even tapes, etc.
In this case, the pieces of fabric or web cord are wound on perforated tubes similar to the tubes e in the figure. These tubes are threaded vertically on the corresponding tubes f placed in the self-clave container a. After having possibly evacuated, the liquid latex or other impregnating substance, put under pressure, passes through the parts from the inside to the outside and the resistance opposed to the passage forces the liquid to completely penetrate the threads. . The procedure is analogous for the ribbons.
The pieces of fabric, web cord or ru ban are then calendered to wring out the excess latex. Drying is then carried out, which determines coagulation, and, if necessary, vulcanization. Web cords for the tire industry, waterproof fabrics for clothing, insulating tapes for electricity, for example, will thus be prepared directly.
The apparatus described makes it possible to obtain impregnated threads which, when they have been vulcanized, either hot or cold, have an appearance and a different feel from that of other textiles. On the other hand, they are impermeable and impervious and have particular -dielectric qualities; for these various reasons, they can be used for weaving (fabrics for umbrellas, for example), hosiery, trimmings, lace-making and the electrical industry for covering or braiding electric wires.
In the foregoing, we have described in detail the impregnation of son in coils, skeins or unwound. Impregnation could be carried out in the same way on assembled yarns, either in wicks, in non-weft fabrics, or in fabric or in tape.
In these latter cases, the impregnation material will not only unite the fibers together or the elementary yarns between them, but will also bring together the complete yarns by entering into the composition of beams, fabrics or ribbons.
It is understood that the impregnation process described above is not the subject of the present invention. It has been described solely for the purpose of demonstrating the use of the apparatus object of the present invention.
