La tête 6 communique avec une source,de vapeur ou autre fluide chaud au moyen d'un tuyau 15 monté sur le bâti 1., de façon à pou- voir y tourner au moyen d'un palier à billes 16;
Heat exchanger. The present invention relates to a heat regulator which may be particularly suitable for heating apartments and similar premises. This exchanger comprises an envelope, means causing the circulation of air in this envelope, and a heat exchange element arranged to be traversed by the air circulating in the envelope and comprising tubes whose . the wall is corrugated, so as to make them flexible.
The heat exchanger can be used either as a heating device or as a refrigerant, depending on whether the fluid passing through it is a heating or cooling fluid. In the first case, the heat exchange takes place by transmitting heat from the heat exchanger fluid to the surrounding environment, while in the second case, the heat exchange takes place by flow of heat from the heat exchanger. surrounding environment towards the fluid which is: in the exchanger.
The: heat exchanger element can advantageously comprise two heads to which pipes are respectively connected: for the inlet and return of the heat exchanger fluid, such as, for example, steam, when the heat exchanger Heat is used for heating, these heads being connected by corrugated wall tubes, so that the heat exchange fluid can pass from one head to the other. The connection of the tubes with the. heads, in particular when the apparatus is used for heating,. must be constantly sealed. Any failure at this point would cause fluid to leak and other inconveniences would result.
The safest and most durable bond can be achieved by soldering (or its equivalent, such as, for example, soldering) tubes to the heads. The tubes, in the part between the heads, are liable to deform as a result of the great changes which take place in the temperature and of the unequal distribution thereof. Thus in the case of a heating device, the cold air coming into contact with the tubes: on one side thereof causes a lowering of the temperature of the tube on this side.
If steam is used, the temperature of the latter when it reaches the inlet end of the heating element is much higher than when it leaves this element and, in consequence, Consequently, the temperature of the element varies considerably from one end to the other.
The uneven expansion and contraction of the heat exchange element resulting from the uneven distribution and variation of temperature due to the reasons given above causes deformation of the tubes of the element and, in the case of of straight tubes, the connections by welding or brazing with the heads are liable to jump, causing leaks and other disadvantages.
Disadvantages of this kind are avoided by the fact that the tubes of the element are so flexible. allow them to yield to deformation forces such as, for example, those mentioned above, without causing the connections to be lost, this flexibility resulting from the fact that the tubes of the element have their corrugated walls so as to make them flexible.
Not only does this give the desired flexibility, but also the corrugations provide a greater radiation surface and constitute conduits which can be used to delay the passage of air into the element and to disperse it throughout this element; the heat can thus be transferred more efficiently from the heat exchanger to the air or vice versa and this effect can be increased in particular when the corrugations of the tubes are helical, which lengthens the pipes used for the passage of the air. 'air.
When the exchanger is used as a heater and is stationary, the heating is limited to certain parts of the room to be heated and is unevenly distributed in this room. It is advantageous that the heat exchange element is movable, for example oscillates around a vertical axis, so that the heat is directed to the different parts of the room and is more evenly distributed in the room. this, which makes the heating more efficient.
When a fan is used to force air through the heat exchanging element, the propulsion of the air into the part of the heat exchanging element which is in front of the center of the fan is zero in comparison with the propulsion of the air at the points of the element which are opposite the periphery of the fan. As a result, it results that we have unequal heat exchange conditions: at different points of the exchanger, which is a drawback since this causes unequal expansion and other effects which are not not to wish. It also results in inefficient heat transfer from the element to air or vice versa.
Preferably, therefore, the apparatus is provided with a device enabling. the air discharged by the fan to be more evenly distributed through the heat exchanger.
An embodiment and a variant of the invention are shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which: 1 is a front elevational view of an indirect heating apparatus comprising a heating element enclosed in an envelope in which air is circulated which comes into contact with the element (the heating; this air is heated through it and then leaves the envelope in the room to be heated.
In this view, some of the parts are shown in cutaway and others in section; Fig. 2 is a view, part in side elevation and part in central vertical section.
longitudinal section of the apparatus shown in FIG. 1; Fig. â- is a -detail view of the mechanism for rotating the heater; Fig. 4 is a side elevational view, partly in section, of a variant of the heat exchanger provided with a device for equalizing the. distribution, in the heating element, of the air sent there by the fan, and The fi.
5 is a detail view, partly in section, showing the construction of a particular form of flexible corrugated pipe which can be used with the heat exchange element and the manner in which this pipe is secured in a , head.
The apparatus shown on f i-. 1, 2, 3 and 5 comprises a metal frame 1 which is. supported fixedly by suspension rods, \ 2 and 3 fixed in ears 4 and 5 forming one body with the frame 1.
In the frame 1 is mounted an element which comprises the upper head 6 and the lower head 7 which are kept at the distance seen 1 tic because they are fixed on the side plates 8 and 9. In the upper cell plate 10 (which is the bottom plate of the upper head 6) are welded - in a sealed manner the upper ends of the corrugated flexible tubes 11 - whose lower end is sealed in a sealed manner. the lower alveolar plate 12 (which is the upper plate of the lower head 7).
The tubes 11 pass through openings in the plates 13 'which are distributed between the heads 6 and 7 and are fixed to the side plates 8 and 9. These plates 13 are used for. keep the tubes 11 in place. The tubes. flexible or flexible 11 can be of the type in one piece or can be constituted by a strip having a long tudinal groove wound in a helix and whose adjacent edges of the successive turns are joined in a sealed manner, the flexibility being obtained by the fact that the edges of the corrugations may move closer to or apart from each other as the tube flexes.
It is represented on the. fig. 5, the way a tube of this kind is constructed and the way: how it is fixed in 1 <a. head. This tube as well as the process and apparatus used to manufacture it are described in United States Patent No. 1198392 of September 7, 1916 in the name of Louis H. Brinkman.
In the head 6 is a per-drilled plate 14 forming a baffle.
The head 6 communicates with a source of steam or other hot fluid by means of a pipe 15 mounted on the frame 1, so as to be able to rotate there by means of a ball bearing 1 </ B> 6;
the upper end of the tube 15 being attached to an elbow 17, which in turn is sealingly attached to a flexible tube 18 which communicates with the. source of steam or hot fluid. The lower head 7 com munique with a pipe 19 mounted so as to be able to rotate by means of a ball bearing 20, in the frame 1; this pipe communicates with an elbow 21, on which, to. in turn, is connected the flexible pipe 22 of the return. go scared one other fluid.
It can be seen that the live steam arrives through the flexible tube 18, the elbow 17 and the tube 15 in the head 6 of the heater, from where it passes into the flexible corrugated tubes 11 where it loses a large part of the steam. its heat by radiation; the condensate and the remaining steam pass into the lower head I and through the pipe 19 into the flexible return flow pipe 22. It will be noted that an opening 23 is made in the elbow 21, which opening is closed by a stopper. screw. This opening allows, by lifting the cap, to evacuate the condensed water in the heater.
It will also be noted that the element, including the heads and the communication pipes is carried by the pipes 15 and 19 which can turn in the frame 1, so that the heating element can turn in the frame. , the tubes 22 and 18 having sufficient play and flexibility to allow an oscillating movement of a certain amplitude.
The air is forced into the heating apparatus between the tubes 11 by means of a fan 24 fixed on the shaft 25 of an electric motor 26. The fan is mounted in a circular drum or envelope 27 fixed to the heads 6 and 7 by means of a sheet 28 which covers, on the fan side, the area between the heads 6 and 7, the side plates 8 and 9, and the drum 2'7. By rotating, the fan forces the air between the tubes 11 and causes it to come out on the other side of the heater, in the room to be heated.
The quantity and direction of the hot air thus leaving the apparatus can be regulated by flaps 29 pivoting on the side plates 8 and 9, on the side. air outlet from the heater. A console 30 is attached to the lower head 7 and projects from the fan side of the apparatus. Motor 26 is bolted to this console.
As can be seen, the motor, the fan and the heating element form a whole which can pivot in the frame I by means of the bearings 16 and 20. ' To rotate this assembly on these bearings, a pulley 31 fixed to the motor shaft 26 controls, via a belt 32, a second pulley 33 which is fixed to the shaft 34, which is mounted on a console 35 fixed to the side of the console 30.
A helical wheel 36 is mounted on the console 30, but its axis is perpendicular to that of the shaft 34; this wheel 36 -is mounted on a shaft 37 and is engaged with a worm 38 carried by the shaft 34. The shaft 37 carries a crank 38 'which actuates a connecting rod 3.9 which pivots at 40 on the fixed support 41 mounted on the fixed frame 1. It can be seen that, when the motor 26 turns and actuates the fan 24.
it also rotates the shaft 34 and the worm 3'8 carried by the latter, which in turn drives the helical wheel 36, rotates the shaft 37 and the crank 38 '. This alternately lengthens and shortens the distance which separates the pivot 40, from the shaft 37, so that the assembly, comprising the heating element, the fan and the motor, oscillates in steps 16 and 20.
As a result of this oscillation, the hot air leaving the heater is projected into the different parts of the room, so that the room is evenly and completely heated. The apparatus thus described makes it possible to use for heating the room and very efficiently and uniformly the heat taken from steam or other hot fluid.
In the embodiment described, the air is not discharged - uniformly over the entire surface - of the fan. The fan blades are narrower in the vicinity of the center of rotation, which decreases the discharge force at the same speed. Likewise, the propulsion of the air decreases in the vicinity of the center of rotation of the fan, because the linear speed of the fan decreases as one approaches the center. On the geometrical axis of the fan, the speed is zero; so that there is no backflow of air at this point.
The propulsion of the air, both due to the usual increase in the size of the fan blades and the increase in linear speed, increases with increasing distance from the air. center of the fan, this propulsion being, as indicated above, zero at the center and maximum. at the periphery of the fan. Thus, in the apparatus represented on fi, -. 1, 2 and 3, there is a minimum air current at the points which are in. the alignment of the center, of the fan and it increases up to a maximum at the points: which are perceptibly in line with the periphery of the fan.
As a result, heat is removed by the air from the tubes of the heater unevenly and inefficiently. This drawback can be avoided by diverting the air from the points where the greatest propulsion takes place to those where the propulsion is normally weaker.
In this way, the air sent is more evenly distributed, the places where normally little or no air passes are used to pass a greater quantity of air, which eliminates the excess air. some points and the scarcity of others, so that the propulsion of air through the heater is made more efficient. In addition, due to the better distribution of air in the heater, the air more effectively removes heat from the heater.
There is shown in FIG. 4 an apparatus established on the basis of the above; in this figure the apparatus shown is a side elevation of an apparatus similar to that shown in figs. 1 and 2, but also with a hollow part 42, of frustoconical shape placed between the fan 24 'and the heating element and fixed to. this element, so that it moves as a block with it and remains in a fixed position relative to the fan and the heating element.
This part 42, as can be seen, at its largest opening on the side of the fan 24 'and the smallest on the side of the heating element mounted in the frame the. It can be seen that the air sent by the fan into the outer part of the tube 42 is deflected from the places where the greatest propulsion is made towards the axis of the fan where the propulsion decreases towards zero, which distributes the air more evenly. air flow sent through the heating element.
One uses thus, to send the air to. through the heat exchanger, a route near the center which is not normally used. We have already talked about the resulting increase in the efficiency of the heater. The degree of inclination of the deflector 42, as well as its length and diameter, will be determined according to the circumstances of each particular case, such as the desired degree of air concentration in the center, the construction of the air conditioning apparatus. heating, the re partition which one .desired to have for the air in. "heater, etc. It is obvious that the more the diameter of the opening of the part 42 following its.
The larger the base, the more the air will be deflected with greater velocity towards the center and the greater the angle of taper, that is to say the greater the difference between the surface of. two ends is greater, the greater the devia tion and the. air concentration towards the center will be large. Taking these facts into account, the angle of inclination of the cone 42, la. its length and diameter can be modified so as to obtain the desired results under the conditions of each particular case.
