Foundry for producing stereotype plates. In order to bring corn metal into the casting mold in stereotype plate casting machines, two main approaches have so far been taken: the metal was conveyed into the casting mold by a pump located in the boiler, or it was raised from the mold with the help of a tap, slide or valve located kettle embedded in the mold.
The machines of the first type have the advantage that the closing element is not permanently under the pressure of the tank contents and can therefore be kept tightly more easily; on the other hand, the pumps take up a lot of space in the boiler and have to be cleaned more often. This is also the case in those foundries in which a container connected to a compressed air line is arranged in the melting kettle, a valve is inserted in the bottom and from which a line leads to the casting mold.
According to the invention, means are provided to lift the casting metal by negative pressure into a space above the metal inlet in the casting mold, closed at the top, and to let it flow from above into the casting mold and solidify in this under the pressure of a column of liquid metal .
In itself it is not new in casting technology to evacuate the casting mold and insert the casting metal into the mold by means of negative pressure at the lower end of the casting mold. By the arrangement that the casting metal is lifted by negative pressure, but then flows into the mold from above and at least the overpressure of the bending metal acts on the bubble-free cast solidifying plate, a particularly tight plate is achieved.
Furthermore, the casting plant can be designed in such a way that the shut-off element of the casting mold is not under pressure as long as the casting mold is shut off; this can prevent the metal from flowing out as a result of leaks in the shut-off device.
The drawing shows in Figures 1 to 3 an embodiment of the subject invention, wherein Figure 1 represents the foundry in a vertical th section; Figures 2 and 3 show a position of two control members; 4 to 6 show three different positions of a control member in a second embodiment of the invention.
In the casting according to FIG. 1, a Lei device 2 leads from the bottom of the melting vessel 1 to the tap housing 3, in which a three-way plug 4 can rotate. In the nere of the faucet housing 3 can be verbun with the help of the plug 4 with the mold 5 and with the riser 6 closed at the top. From the upper end of the riser pipe 6 a line 7, 8 leads to the container 9, from which air is continuously sucked off by means of a pipe 11 by a suction pump not provided.
In the line 7, 8 a three-way valve 12 is connected, which in one position connects the line 7 with the line 8 and the container 9, in the other position the line 7 with the opening 13, which into the Outside air or leads to a Druckwiudkessel.
The casting process takes place as follows in this casting plant: As soon as the suction pump starts to run, the metal rises through the line 2 and the straw housing 3 into the riser pipe 6, which is located above the entry point of the metal into the casting mold 5. The level of the negative pressure is automatically adjusted so that the metal always rises to approximately a line A-A. The line 2, the valve housing 3 and the riser pipe 6 are heated in a manner known per se so that the metal in these parts cannot cool down and cannot solidify.
If the mold 5 is now closed and come into the casting position shown in FIG. 1, the chick 4 is brought in a manner known per se from the position according to FIG. 1 into the position according to FIG. 2; appropriately, this happens automatically. At the same time, the three-way valve 12 is brought into the position according to FIG. 3.
The outside air then penetrates through the opening 13 and the line 7 into the riser 6 and presses the casting metal through the slot 14 into the casting mold 5, the metal level falling from the line AA to the line BB . The metal in the casting mold now solidifies under the pressure of the liquid metal corresponding to the height h. After the cast plate has solidified, the plug 4 and the three-way valve 12 are turned back into the position shown in FIG. The mold 5 can now be opened and the stereotype plate removed.
By moving the three-way valve 12, the riser pipe 6 has been reconnected to the vacuum container 9; the metal therefore rises again in the riser pipe 6 up to the line A - A; the foundry is now ready for the next casting. By means of a pressure regulating valve 15, the negative pressure in the container 9 is set so that the casting metal is always lifted up to line A-A, regardless of the metal standing in the melting vessel 1.
For this purpose a float 16 is provided which floats on the metal surface and rotates around a pin 17. A lever 18 with an adjusting screw 19 is also attached to the pin 17. This presses on a spring 20, which in turn presses on the valve cone 15 which, as a rule, closes the line 8 and the container 9 to the outside.
When the metal level in the boiler 1 is high, that is to say in the position of the float 16 shown in FIG. 1 with solid lines, the pressure of the spring 20 on the valve cone 15 is low. Only a slight negative pressure, based on the outside air, can therefore be achieved, since the valve cone 15 allows outside air to enter from a certain pressure. When the metal was deep in the boiler 1, the pressure of the spring 20 is stronger; the negative pressure approaches a perfect vacuum, so that the metal is removed up to the line A- A in this case too. The metal therefore always solidifies under the same pressure h, regardless of whether there is little or a lot of metal in the melting vessel 1.
The line 7 can, as already indicated above, in the gezeich designated position in Fig. 3 through the opening 13 instead of the outside air with an over pressure generator, so for example with a pressure air vessel. In this case, the arrangement can be made in such a way that the suction side of a double-acting pump is connected to the vacuum tank 9, and the pressure side is connected to a pressure air vessel which is connected to the opening 13.
In the embodiment of the straw housing according to FIGS. 4, 5 and 6 there is the possibility of sucking the air out of the casting mold 5 during casting. You are by your side. With the mold open, the chick 4 in the position according to FIG. 6 and the three-way valve 12 in the position according to FIG. 3, the metal in the line 2 is at the same level as the metal in the boiler. After the mold 5 is closed, the chick 4 is rotated into the position shown in FIG. 4, while the riser pipe 6 is connected to the container 9 by rotating the three-way path 12 in the position shown in FIG.
As a result of the negative pressure in the container 9, both the air is drawn off from the tightly closing casting mold 5 and the metal is lifted from the boiler 1 through the line 2 to a position C-C (FIG. 4). The Me tall also fills the mold, from which the rest of the air escapes through the riser pipe 6 as a result.
This process takes about two to three seconds. As soon as the Me tall has risen to the line C: -C, the chick 4 is in the position according to FIG. 5 and the three-way valve 12 in the position according toFig. 3 rotated. The outside air pressure can now fully act on the metal and the plate is staring under the pressure corresponding to the pressure height h. After turning the Kü kens 4 in the position shown in FIG. 6, the metal runs from the riser 6 back into the boiler 1, and the mold 5 can be opened. The same process is repeated with the next casting.
