If the switch 9 is in the position shown, the power supply connected to IV receives the lowest voltage. If the voltage is to be regulated higher, the movable contact is rotated clockwise. As soon as the contact 10 has reached the contact 4a, the power supply IV is connected directly to the tap 2 of the transformer. The voltage divider and thus also the changeover switch 9 is no longer flowed by the load current, so that the changeover switch 9 can be switched to the tap 3.
The voltage divider is now between the taps 2 and 3 with the opposite voltage direction than before. Nevertheless, if the voltage of the power supply unit IV is to be increased even further, the movable contact 10 is rotated further in the same direction, that is, clockwise, since the contacts are arranged as already described. If the voltage is to be regulated downwards, the contact 10 is rotated counterclockwise, and the voltage divider is switched over again when the contact 10 has reached the contact 4a.
The movable contact 10 is in a manner not shown under the action of an energy storage device, which causes the switching operations, once initiated, to be carried out in one go from one stage to the other.
In Fig. 2 an embodiment is shown, where the step transformer I has more than three taps, namely the taps 11 to 18. These are brought up alternately to the contact groups of the step selector Va and Vb, whose movable contacts with the two ends of the Voltage divider II are connected.
The voltage divider II itself has again as in Fig. 1 between its two end points 4 and 8, the taps 5, 6 and 7, which are connected in the manner already described to the load switch III and via this to the network IV. It takes place each time with one revolution of the circuit breaker with a position of the movable contact 10 on the contact 4.1 a switchover at the contact group yb and with a position of the contact 10 on contact 8a a switch to Va.
It is not absolutely necessary that the fixed contacts of the load switch for the voltage divider are arranged in a circle. They can also be more or less straight or semicircular to one another, for example. Then the movable contact 10 no longer performs a rotating movement in the same sense, but a reciprocating movement.
For practical implementation, it is also advisable to place the load switch above the bushing of a phase of the step transformer in air or in an oil container, while the step selector of the transformer is fastened insulated under the transformer cover.
