La fig. 1 représente schématiquement en élévation le dispositif d'asservissement aux mouvements horaires, et La fig. 2 en est un détail en plan; La fig. 3. représente en élévation le dis positif d'asservissement en déclinaison, et La fig. 4 en est à plus grande échelle un détail en plan; La fig. 5 représente schématiquement en élévation un dispositif assurant simultané ment l'asservissement horaire et celui en dé clinaison; La fig. 6 est en élévation un détail d'un organe vu en plan dans la fig. 5;
La fig. 7 représente schématiquement en élévation un dispositif de recherche du soleil après une absence de celui-ci (recalage du miroir) ; La fig. 8 est la vue en plan d'un détail de ce dispositif; Les fig. 9, 10 et 11 représentent en éléva tion de face, en plan et en élévation la éralfi l'ensemble des miroirs auxiliaires assurant les asservissements ci-dessus;
établira un contact fermant le circuit d'alimentation du moteur M qui entraîne l'axe horaire 5 à rai son d'un peu plus d'un tour en vingt-quatre heures (vitesse supérieure d'environ au mouvement diurne apparent du soleil). Il est facile de comprendre comment ce dispositif assure l'asservissement horaire du miroir 1 au soleil 2;
6. En effet, si on suppose qu'à un moment donné le miroir 1 est en position correcte par rapport au soleil 2,6 (l'image du soleil se trouvant à ce moment en 2-9, (fig. 2i), c'est-à-dire un peu en arrière de la bande de miroir elliptique 31), le miroir 1 étant fixe, le déplacement du soleil a pour effet d'ame ner l'image 29 sur le miroir elliptique & 1, de sorte que cette image réfléchie échauffe le contacteur 32;
Les deux contacteurs 42', 43 sont: d'une part, disposés en parallèle sur le circuit d'alimentation du moteur 46, de telle façon que lorsque l'image 29 du soleil (fig. 3) rencontre l'un ou l'autre des miroirs 40, .11 qui, dans ce cas, forment un ensemble équiva lent au miroir unique 31, des fig. 1 et 2, l'un de ces deux contacteurs 42, 43 se trouve fermé et le moteur 46 se met en marche, tou jours dans le même sens, commandant ainsi (flèche 47) la rotation de l'arbre horaire 5 dans le sens voulu pour assurer l'asservisse ment horaire;
Self-regulating heliostat. The object of the invention is a self-regulating heliostat without a clockwork movement, intended mainly, but not exclusively, to make the lighting of premises by the sun and, more generally, the distribution and use of the rays industrially practical. solar (visible, infrared and ultra-violet), together or separately; these solar rays being able to be, as long as there is no sunshine, replaced by the rays emanating from powerful electric light sources, with high efficiency, retractable automatically as soon as the sun arrives, thus providing "central lighting" for houses or local.
The inventor has previously. shows a device for distributing solar rays in dark rooms in which a heliostat set on the sun is placed on the roof of a building and returns a column of solar rays vertically into a well or courtyard, in which are available ses, to. various heights, optical systems each capturing a part of the solar beam and distributing the light through appropriate openings in the dark rooms to be lit, and this by means of devices organized to distribute this light in the room.
To be fully understood, it is necessary to recall briefly what is the object of any heliostat: a heliostat is an apparatus intended to function in such a way that, when it receives solar rays (the direction of which varies according to the position of the sun in this or that meridian, as a result of the hourly diurnal movement, and in declination as a result of the seasons), it sends them back in a fixed direction, always the same.
All heliostats designed up to. present were devices or laboratory or observatory: on the other hand, they were all controlled by a clockwork movement, and included mechanical regulators.
The heliostat according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the rays returned by the mirror act, by moving when the mirror is stopped, on a relay sensitive to these rays which controls a servo motor controlling the movement of the mirror. to that of the mobile beam of rays.
In its preferred embodiment, the present heliostat is first of all an apparatus for practical and industrial purposes, since it does not include a clockwork movement, but a servomotor device, which will be described later; the essential characteristics of this servomotor are such that the sun itself regulates the movements of the heliostat mirror, and this can be achieved regardless of the initial position of this heliostat, While other heliostats required adjustment by hand of the variation, a start-up also by hand,
clockwork movements with continuously controlled chronometer precision, the present apparatus can be implemented in such a way as to automatically search for the sun, as soon as it appears, in order to place itself in the position where it will be able to reflect the sun's rays in the desired fixed direction; 20 Automatically follow the complicated movements of the sun (clock movement, movement of declination, apparent movement due to atmospheric refraction); 30 Correct adjustment and mechanical faults on their own (axis orientation, play, bending, etc.).
These results are obtained, in the preferred embodiment, as it has been said above in part, by means of a servomotor device essentially comprising differential thermometric electrical contactors with gas and mercury operating under water. effect of heating due to sunlight.
In what follows, the invention will be explained in application to a heliostat having the simplest type of assembly which, by analogy with the assembly of an equatorial astronomical telescope, will be called "equatorial assembly".
To make it clear how such an automatic control can be achieved, we will first expose the servo mechanism to the sun's clockwise movement, then the servo mechanism to the sun's declination movement, and how we can realize them both simultaneously by a single mechanism. But it should also be taken into account that, in practice, the sun being a star which is not always visible, it will occur, after night or after cloudy weather, a shift in the position of the mirror in relation to to that of the sun.
To remedy this drawback, that is to say to search for the sun, an automatic resetting device has been provided which will also be described. The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 schematically shows in elevation the device for slaving the clock movements, and FIG. 2 is a detail in plan; Fig. 3. represents in elevation the positive servo device in declination, and FIG. 4 is a detail in plan on a larger scale; Fig. 5 schematically shows in elevation a device simultaneously ensuring the time control and that in declination; Fig. 6 is in elevation a detail of an organ seen in plan in FIG. 5;
Fig. 7 schematically shows in elevation a device for searching for the sun after its absence (adjustment of the mirror); Fig. 8 is a plan view of a detail of this device; Figs. 9, 10 and 11 show in front elevation, in plan and in elevation the eralfi all of the auxiliary mirrors providing the above slavings;
Fig. 1.2 represents, in an axial section, all the mechanical members of an embodiment of the heliostat following the principles indicated in the preceding figures, and FIGS. 13 and 14 respectively show a contactor and a switch to. gas chamber operating by heating.
According to fig. 1, the sun 26 sends onto the mirror 1 of the heliostat a beam 2 which is returned in the direction of the axis of the world along which the axis 5 is oriented for the mirror 1; this reflected beam falls on the fixed mirror 12 and it is returned vertically. The slaving to the hourly movement of the sun is carried out as follows: if we assume that at the moment considered (noon) the plane of the figure represents the meridian of the place, containing at this moment the sun, the hourly movement of the sun is perpendicular to. this plan.
If in the vertical beam 27 a lens 2 $ is placed, it will give (see fig. 2 which shows part of this device in plan), an image 29 of the sun which will move in the direction of arrow 30. Per pendularly - at the path 29, 30, is disposed an elliptical mirror strip 31 and, above this mirror, in the plane which corresponds to the image of the lens .28, is disposed the sensitive gas chamber 32 d '' a mercury contactor which, by heating,
will establish a contact closing the supply circuit of the motor M which drives the clock axis 5 at a distance of a little more than one revolution in twenty-four hours (speed greater than the apparent diurnal movement of the sun). It is easy to understand how this device ensures the hourly slaving of mirror 1 to sun 2;
6. Indeed, if we suppose that at a given moment the mirror 1 is in the correct position with respect to the sun 2,6 (the image of the sun being at this moment in 2-9, (fig. 2i), that is to say a little behind the elliptical mirror strip 31), the mirror 1 being fixed, the displacement of the sun has the effect of bringing the image 29 on the elliptical mirror & 1, so that this reflected image heats up the contactor 32;
the electric motor 33 is started, acts on the mirror of the heliostat and moves it, the image of the sun 29 is thus slowly brought back a little forward and out of the mirror segment 3'1, in the position shown in fig. 2: Contactor 3'3 then no longer receives the rays reflected by mirror segment 3; 1; the electric circuit opens, the motor and, consequently, the heliostat mirror stop.
The image of the sun then begins to move again towards the segment of the mirror 31 and the same movement, thus reproducing itself successively in spurts, will achieve the time slaving. It should be noted that the mirror strip 3,1 must always be perpendicular to the displacement 30 of the image 29 of the sun, that is to say parallel to the figure plane or plane of incidence of the mirror 1, it It is necessary for this mirror 311 to turn on itself with a movement in relation to that of the time axis 5. This has been indicated schematically by the dotted line 34-3-5.
The diagram of the device for slaving the mirror 1 to the declination movement of the sun 2,6 is shown in FIG. 3. The plane of the figure being, as has been said, that of the meridian where the sun is located at the moment considered, the movement of declination must be considered as being represented by the arrows 3,6 or 37 placed. @ next to the sun. The movement along these arrows will correspond in plan figure 4, for the image of the sun 2.9, to a movement along the arrows 38, 39.
In the vertical solar beam 27 are arranged two distinct bands of mirrors: parabolic 40, 41, arranged protruding and in the plane of the figure. In the plane of the images of the lens 2; 8 given by these mirrors 40, 41 there are two contactors 42 ', 43 of the type previously indicated. The two contactors 42, 43 are arranged so as to control, one in one direction, the other in the other, a motor 44 which varies the angle e of the mirror 1 with the time axis 5 which it. door.
It is easy to see that, when the hourly movement of the sun has been followed, thanks to the mechanism of fig. 1, for example, the mechanism of FIGS. 3, and 4 will in turn produce the declination servo. Indeed, if the image 29 of the sun, moving in the direction of the arrow '30 ,, arrives on one or the other of the two parabolic mirrors 40, 41, the rays will be reflected on one or the another of the factors. 42, 43 which. will start the motor 44 in the desired direction so that the angle e of the mirror varies so as to bring the image back to the mirror which has not received it.
It is easy to understand that, thanks to this mechanism, the image of the sun will always be maintained at 45 at the intersection of the two mirrors 40, 41, that is to say that the slaving in decline will be realized. .
The mechanism shown in fig. 5 shows how one can combine the devices of FIGS. 1 and 3, so as to use only a single lens 218, a single group of two strips of parabolic mirrors 40, 41, a single group of two contactors 42 for the hourly servicing and for the declining one. , 43 and a single motor 46. To this end, the motor 46 directly controls (arrow 47), the rotation of the clockwise shaft 5 and it controls the variation of the angle e (arrow 46), by the inter medial of a clutch 49 whose play will be indicated.
The two contactors 42 ', 43 are: on the one hand, arranged in parallel on the supply circuit of the motor 46, so that when the image 29 of the sun (fig. 3) meets one or the another of the mirrors 40, .11 which, in this case, form a set equivalent to the single mirror 31, of FIGS. 1 and 2, one of these two contactors 42, 43 is closed and the motor 46 starts up, always in the same direction, thus controlling (arrow 47) the rotation of the clockwise shaft 5 in the direction wanted to ensure hourly slavery;
on the other hand, arranged there to feed, as will be said, a group of three coils 50, 51, 52, the contactor 42 supplies the coil 50 and a winding of the coil 52; the contactor 43 supplies the coil 51 and a second winding, in the opposite direction to the coil 52. It follows that: If it is the contactor 42 which is closed, the coils 50 and 52 are energized.
If it is the contactor 43 which is closed, the coils 51 and 52 are energized.
If the contactors 42 and 43 are closed simultaneously, the coils 50 and 51 are energized, the effects of the currents flowing in the two windings of the coil 52 intermingling with each other.
Below the coils 50, 51, 52 (see elevation of fig. 6) is a common armature formed by a disc 53 mounted with a ball joint at point 54. From what has just been said, this disc may occupy three positions depending on whether one or the other of the three groups of two coils 50, 51, 52 is excited. The frame 53 is integral with a vertical rod 55, the end of which (FIG. 5) via the link 56, engages a lever 57 pivoted at 58 and carrying at its end the clutch sleeve 49. The motor 46 drives a bevel pinion 59, which meshes permanently with two other bevel pins 60, 61 mounted idle on the shaft 62.
The clutch sleeve 49 is keyed or ball-mounted on the shaft 62 so as to be able to slide on it while driving it. Depending on the three positions that the armature 53 of the coils 50, 51, 52 can occupy, the sleeve 49 is either engaged with the pinion 60, which causes the shaft 62 to turn in a certain direction, or else engaged with the pinion 61, which turns the shaft 62 in the opposite direction, or else it is not engaged with either of the two pinions 60, 61, which leaves the shaft 62 stationary. The movement of shaft 62 is used, as is indicated by the arrow 48, to change the angle of declination of mirror 1.
It can be seen that thanks to this device of FIG. 5, the servo-control is carried out in clockwise movement thanks to the set of two mirror bands 40 and 41 and to the contactors 42, 43 always starting in the same direction the motor 46 which drives the clockwise shaft 5, while, while this motor 46 is running, the two mirrors 40, 41 and their contactors 42, 43 act, via the three coils 50, 51, 52 and the clutch 49 to correct, if it the servo in declination of the mirror takes place.
As indicated above, to automatically control the heliostat by the sun, it is not sufficient to maintain the servo from the moment it is carried out. A resetting device must also be provided, which, after the sun has disappeared, will allow the mirror to quickly regain the correct position at the time. It is this device which is represented in FIG. 7.
It should be noted first of all that with an equatorial mounted helio stat like the one envisioned above, the movements in declination of mirror 1 during the period when the sun may not be apparent and which may last a few weeks. , will be relatively small, so that, if one realizes the realignment of the hour axis 5, the length of the strips of parabolic mirrors 40, 41 (fig. 3. and 5) will be sufficient so that, despite the offset in declination, the image of the sun meets these bands when the time adjustment is ensured, so that the normal operation of the servo can continue.
To achieve this time adjustment, the time axis is actuated by a motor 63 with relatively rapid movement. On the general electrical circuit of the device are placed a contactor 64 disposed in an open place where it can always be struck by the direct rays of the sun 26 as soon as the latter appears and, in series with this contactor 64, a switch 65 and a motor. The switch 65 is combined with the lens 28 which has already been discussed, and with an elliptical mirror 66 which gives the switch 65 the image of the lens 28.
This switch is heated and breaks the current of the motor as soon as the lens 28 receiving the beam of solar rays gives an image of the sun in front of the mirrors 40 and 41, above the part of the mirror 66 which is not. recou green by these. The operation of this device is as follows as soon as the sun 26 appears again, the contactor 64 is heated and closes. Switch 65, which, when not excited, lets current flow, therefore allows motor 63 to be started. Time axis 5 is driven at a relatively fast speed and there comes a time when image 29 of the sun (fig. 8), approaches mirror 66.
When it arrives at this mirror at 29 'after having crossed the zone of mirrors 40, 41, the switch 65 is heated and immediately interrupts the current of the motor 63. The time axis 5 stops in a position such that the normal operation of the control described above can begin.
The opening of the cap of the elliptical mirror 66 must be sufficient so that, given the admissible shift which may have occurred in the declination during the interruption of the solar lighting, this mirror is large enough to always catch up. at a given moment, during the rotation of the hour axis 5, the image of the sun.
Figs. 9, 10 and 11 show in elevation along a given plane, in plan, and in elevation along a plane perpendicular to the first, how the lens 28, the registration mirror 66, the two bands can be arranged and joined. servo mirrors. 40, 41 made integral with the mirror 66, as well as the switch 65 of the mirror 66, and the two contactors 42, 43 of the mirrors 40 and 41. As has already been indicated previously. it is necessary that the strips of mirrors 40, 41 participate in the clockwise movement.
To this end, in the assembly which has just been indicated in FIG. 9, 10 and 11, the mirror 66 will be driven by the time axis 5 as shown schematically in FIG. 7 by arrow 67, 68.
In fig. 12, there is shown an embodiment of all the mechanical members of this heliostat control. In a cylindrical housing 69, which is oriented along the axis of the world and fixed on a frame, suitable; There is a hollow tube 70 which constitutes what has been called, in all of the above, the clockwise axis 5. This tube 70 carries at its end the mirror 1. -This tube is gently fitted on a shaft 71 whose end 72 is mounted by ball bearings in a bearing 73 of the frame. A plate 74 is fixed on the tube 70 and carries the electric motor 7.5 serving to adjust the clockwise movement.
This movement is. obtained by the following mechanism: the shaft 76 of the motor meshes by a worm with a toothed wheel 77 integral with a shaft 78 which itself controls, by worm 79, the toothed wheel 80; another shaft 81, terminated by a worm 82, meshes with a toothed wheel 83 carried by bearings integral with the plate 74 and forming a body with a worm 64 which meshes with a large toothed wheel 85 mounted on the central shaft 71.
This toothed wheel 85 is integral with another toothed wheel 86 which, by means of suitable gears and motion returns similar to those which have just been indicated, is controlled by the fast-moving electric motor. 87 used to reset the mirror.
It can be seen that, if the resetting motor 87 is started, it turns the train of the two wheels 85, 86 and that the latter, linked to the plate 74 by the irreversible toothed wheel control 85, worm 84, drives this plate 74 in its rotation. When the resetting motor 8 7 is no longer excited, it immobilizes the train with the two toothed wheels 85, 86. If, at this moment, the time servo motor 75 is started, the worm 84 is set in rotation and consequently obliged to run around the toothed wheel 85 by causing in its movement the plate 74 and the clockwise sleeve 70.
But, as we have seen and described on the occasion of FIG. .5, the hourly motor 75 also controls the declination slaving of the mirror. This command is ensured in the following way: 'by a set of appropriate gears and movement references. the motor 75 rotates a worm 88, which meshes with a toothed wheel 89 fixed on a rod 90 disposed in the axis of the clockwise man chon 70. This rod 90 is threaded at its upper end and causes a guided nut 91 to move. , on which is articulated a link 92 whose other end is. hinged on the mirror 1.
According to the control diagram which has been detailed in fig. 5, we find in fi-. 12, in the transmission of the motor 75 to the worm 88, all the elements of the clutch device 49 controlled by the three coils 50, 51, 52. In fact, the motor always drives the pinion in the same direction. 59 which, by the play of the clutch 49, and the pinions with attached movements 60, 61, gives the drive in one direction or the other, or the stopping of the screw 90.
Figs. 13 and 14 show a contactor and a switch. According to fig. 13, the two gas chambers 93 (head) and 91 (body) are connected by tubes 95 and 96, filled with a mass of mercury 97, the level of which is at 98 and 99. On the side (the tubing 96 is arranged an electrode 100 which is always in communication with the mass of mercury and an electrode 101 whose communication with the mass of mercury is established as soon as the gas from the head of the device (enclosure 93) heats up without The same is true of that of body 94.
Inside the head is a pitch of blackened mild steel foil 102. The switch shown at fi, -. 14 is constructed in a similar manner. The sensitive chamber 104 is joined to the compensation chamber 105 by a pipe 106 filled with a column of mercury, the level of which is at 107, 108. On the side of the bulb 106 is arranged an electrode 109 which is still in communication with the mass of mercury, and an electrode 110, the communication of which with this mass is interrupted as soon as the enclosure 104 heats up so that it is the same for the enclosure 105.
As in the apparatus of the fi-. 13, a pitch of blackened foil, 111, is disposed inside the head 104.
The purpose of the blackened metal pellet placed inside the head of the contactors is to receive sunlight and to heat the gas as a result of its own heating. We would achieve the same result by simply blackening the glass of the head. However, blackened glass head contactors have some inertia. Solar radiation, in order to heat the interior gas, must first heat the glass in the wall. This glass, although thin, obviously has an enormous calorific capacity compared to that of the gas which it is necessary to dilate; cooling is also done slowly, because glass being a poor conductor slowly loses its. heat.
This troublesome inertia is greatly reduced by the use of the pellet. In this case: 1o The contactor head is made of thin and transparent glass.
The pellet, which moreover could be replaced by a half-cylinder, is made of extremely thin metal. This metal, which must not be attacked by mercury, must have a low heat capacity, and must not be easily fusible. Burnished steel, for example, works very well in sheets 0.03 mm thick.
The operation of the apparatus is then the following: The solar energy instead of being absorbed by the wall of the tank, crosses this one without heating it and falls on the pellet of Ô This pellet, being extremely m etal.
thin and a good heat conductor, heats up very quickly and also cools very quickly by infrared radiation.
The gas is therefore heated or cooled by means of the metal pellet.
