Process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye. It has been found that the diazonium compounds of amino substitution products of benzotrifluoride (trifluoromethylbenzene) and its substitution products which do not contain any solubilizing groups, when coupled with 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid arylides, give dyes of technically valuable shades and surprisingly good fastness properties.
If one takes into account that dyes of this type, provided they are produced on the fiber, are subject to high requirements in terms of resistance to alkaline agents, it was neither to be expected nor foreseen that the strongly negative group CFs not only withstand treatment with alkaline agents, but also improve the properties of the dyeings.
The dyes mentioned can be produced in a customary manner either on the fiber by dyeing or printing, in bulk or on a substrate.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a water-insoluble azo dye, which is characterized in that the diazo compound of 1-amino-3-trifluoromethylbenzene with 2 '. 3'-Oxynaphtoyl-1-amino-2-methoxybenzene couples. The two components can also act on one another in the presence of a substrate.
The dye, which is produced in substance, forms an orange-colored powder and, when produced on the fiber, provides a lively orange with very good light and wash fastness.
Example: To a diazo solution prepared in the usual way from 16.1 parts by weight of 1-amino-3-triflLloromethylbenzene, an alkaline sodium solution of 29.5 parts by weight 2 'slowly flows with thorough stirring. 3'-Oxynaphtoyl-l-ainino-2-methoxybenzene, which is mixed with the amount of sodium acetate necessary to bind the excess mineral acid. After the formation of the dye has ended, it is filtered off; washed well with water and dried. The representation of the dye can also be done in the presence of a substrate.
If the dye is produced on the fiber, a vivid orange with very good lightfastness and washfastness is obtained.
