Description

Process for producing surfaces that are resistant to sliding friction in machine parts made of aluminum or aluminum alloys. The invention relates to a method for producing surfaces resistant to sliding friction in machines parts, such as bearings, slideways, guides and the like made of aluminum or aluminum alloys.

This process is characterized in that artificial oxide layers are created on the surfaces. Such oxide layers can be generated in particular by treatment with alternating current in an electrolytic bath.

The suitability of these oxide layers for the aforementioned purpose is based on their extraordinarily great hardness. This suitability is increased by the fact that these oxide layers can be made extremely absorbent for fats, oils, lubricating materials, etc. and hold them very firmly.

A running-in of the bearings for the purpose of "mirror" formation is therefore no longer necessary in such bearings made of aluminum or aluminum alloys with oxidized and oiled surfaces, and the risk of "seizing" is reduced to a minimum, or practically excluded.
