Process for the production of a wall covering with a marble-like appearance. The present invention relates to a method for producing a wall covering with a marble-like appearance, according to which a layer of a hydraulic binder, which is given a marble-like appearance by color additives, is applied in the moist state to a load-bearing, likewise moist layer, before the setting process of the individual layers is complete.
The method is suitable both for the production of a wall covering in the form of panels, which are laid as such on the wall, and for the production of a seamless wall covering directly on the wall.
According to the method, a layer of a hydraulic binding agent, preferably white cement or plaster of paris, is first produced, which is given a marble-like appearance by adding color. This can be done, for example, by placing differently colored layers on top of one another and rolling them, whereupon the resulting block is cut into thin slices perpendicular to these differently colored layers. By cutting the different colored layers get a somewhat irregular shape. Strands of different colored binder paste can also be applied to a base and then pressed into a thin layer.
The thin layer obtained in this way, which had a marble-like appearance due to the various color additives, is pliable as long as it has not yet set. In this state, it is applied to the load-bearing, also moist layer of the covering. This is done advantageously either in such a way that this thin layer is placed on a base and the material that has to form the supporting layer, for example asbestos cement, slag cement or the like, is placed on it and pressed to the plate, or in such a way that first the load-bearing layer is applied directly to the wall and the thin layer of marble-like appearance is applied to it.
The latter type allows the production of seamless walls, while the former type allows panels of any size to be produced.
With the use of suitable hydraulic binders, the panels can be glazed and fired in the oven. If the covering is produced on the wall itself, an organic substance, for example cellulose or viscose, is advantageously sprayed on as a glaze after the dry.
