Wie sich erwiesen hat, ist dis, Unlösliehkeit der Komponenten kein Hinder nis für eine glatte Kupplung und hat es sich gezeigt, dass bei der Diazotierung die un@ö- liehe Diazokomponente sofort aufgespalten wird, während;

Process for the preparation of dye images by photographic means. Methods of achieving image impressions through exposure, which only develop color-synthetically into the actual color images after subsequent treatment with baths, are not unknown and there is also no lack of suggestions to achieve color images in the gelatine via the silver image,
whereby this type of creation of color images would have a prominent importance for photography and especially color photography. However, this proposal and attempts have so far consistently encountered insurmountable difficulties with the major requirements that have to be met here. so that they eventually turned out to be impractical. On the other hand, the first-mentioned procedures that on. The destruction or elicitation of dye-forming components are based directly on light, under which the name diazotypes can be easily introduced into practice.
Due to their principle of the direct decomposition of diazosalts by light, these processes are restricted to certain groups of dyes and the color tones that can be achieved with them are therefore narrowly limited, so that they can be used as blueprint processes , the big requirements,
which provides color photography to the partial color images in terms of fixability in the gelatin with complete transparency of the colors and, above all, accuracy of the color tones to be achieved, but has not grown. Since the demands on the dyes for color photography are so high that only a very few of the many thousands of available organic dyes actually have the correct spectral suitability, it is hardly to be expected that these dyes will be synthesized at random .
EMI0001.0029
which are necessary for the color-synthetic development of color images in gelatine, as well as to show new ways at the same time, how one can call up color images with these. The special chemical pretreatment of the dyestuff components also makes it possible to use very extensive previously unsuitable groups of the most valuable dyestuffs in photography.
The basic conditions for the dyes are, in addition to their quick and easy synthetic production (for example by oxidation, oxidative coupling or coupling by diazotization), above all, the invulnerability or. Insolubility of their dye components in the photographic baths, furthermore indifference to the sensible
silver salt emulsion and, last but not least, the immediate fixation of the dye at the moment of its formation. The inherently insoluble dyes therefore do not yet fulfill the required properties, since the insolubility of the dye itself does not necessarily also mean the insolubility of its components and their indifference to the silver salt emulsion, and especially these so-called "pigment dyes." ". like mineral paints like to lead to dusty, i.e. opaque color images.
The fixing methods for dyeing substances can only be used to a very limited extent for photography, since the usual binding of the basic dyes is mediated by tannin and tartar tartar when the gelatine is drenched for a long time and the fixation is not possible - The acidic dyes are limited to the few lacquer formers.
For this reason, the large area of azo dyes, which contains the most brilliant colors and consists mainly of acidic dyes, has been almost entirely closed to color photography.
According to the present process, according to the invention, the dye components required for dye formation are brought into the gelatin in a water-insoluble form and indifferent for silicones, and then, after producing the silver image, the dye image is developed from the components with the aid of the same .
For this purpose, for example, the uric acid, fatty or resin acidic salts or other insoluble salts are formed from the basic dye components, the insoluble metal compounds from the naphthols and analogs, while the acidic, especially the sulfosanrenes. Components of the azo dyes which cannot be precipitated continuously can be converted into insoluble bodies by their esters, anilides or the like.
Since these are all mediated by alcohol or the water-miscible solvent can be brought into the clelatins in the finest dispersion, the dye development, for example by diazotization, results in insoluble dyes of perfect transparency.
As has been shown, dis, insolubility of the components is not an obstacle to a smooth coupling and it has been shown that in the diazotization, the insoluble diazo component is split immediately, while;
the insolubilized, for example esterified, azo component couples unhindered and, as has been observed. also leads to an insoluble azo dye due to its insolubility.
The dye components prepared as described above dry, despite their insolubility, under certain conditions and with constitutional suitability, crystal-clear with the gelatin.
By making use of this phenomenon, one can get by means of the above-described insolubilized dye components in a very simple way via silver to a dye image in the opposite sense, i.e. from a silver positive to a dye negative. The exposed silver salt emulsion, which contains the dyestuff components in a precisely dosed manner, is developed, fixed and the silver image is placed in a bleaching bath, which removes the silver and at the same time tans and hardens the gelatin in the image areas.
Such baths, which are capable of hardening the gelatine in the same way as the light in chrome gelatine, which means that solutions are completely repelled in these areas, are not unknown and are used, for example, in the Technicolor process.
If one dips such a hardened picture in a bath, which the dye synthesis BEZW. Coupling of the components to the dyestuff triggers, whether in this case by oxidation, diazotization or the like, the dyestuff formation can only take place at the uncured areas, so that a dyestuff image is created in the reverse sense of the silver image.
Such an inverse dye formation can also be obtained if, in addition to insoluble diazo and azo components, a water-insoluble body is added to the silver emulsion, which is capable of developing nitrous acid with acid, acidic vapors or some other action.
The number of such bodies is large, since the metal nitrites all have a certain solubility, but they are to be found in corresponding insolubility among the complex cobalt compounds, namely the compound of luteocobalt chloride with diammine cobalt nitrite, among others, which was found in the following way arises:
[Co (NH; I7 Cl; -I- 3 [(NO2) 4 Co (NHs) 27 Na - Co (NH ;;) e. [(NO2) .1 Co (NH3) 273 + 3 Na Cl or the analogous Compound with cobalt nitrite [Co (NH3), 7. [Co (NO2) 3], the first of which can be easily removed from the gelatin by means of NH, NO3 solution, and thallocobalt nitrite is also suitable for this.
The prepared gelatin silver emulsion is developed and fixed neutrally after exposure and then likewise with neutral salts the nitrite compound is oxidatively destroyed at the points of the silver image. Such Oxyda functions, the mediating neutral, non-oxidizing compounds only at the points of the silver to trigger
EMI0003.0040
ey arid is added in doses from the factory, or incorporated by subsequent bathing and its conversion into insoluble luteol cobalt nitrite takes place by bathing in sodium cobalt nitrite solution.
According to the nature of these double conversions via silver, there are still other possibilities to convert silver images into insoluble nitrite images that fall within the scope of the present invention.
If one then triggers the diazotization at the points of this Ni tritbildes in any way, for free play with acid, one arrives at the points of the earlier silver image to an azo dye image. In addition to generating monochrome images, the method can also be evaluated in various ways for generating photographs in natural colors. In particular, it enables a natural-colored image with a single exposure without transferring processes. reach.
For this purpose, for example, special sensitizers, such as pinaflavol for the green-sensitive emulsion and pinavanol blue for the red-sensitive emulsion, sensitized halide silver emulsion layers in three layers are inseparably poured into the three basic colors in a known manner. Each of these three layers also contains its special dye components,
which were already added to the emulsions during their preparation, and these dye components are selected in such a way that when they are synthesized to form the dye in the layer in question, they produce an image of a color that corresponds to the color area for which the layer is sensitive was bilized, is complementary.
Due to the color image synthesis according to the method, which on one of the above mentioned processes only takes place through a release bath in the gelatin layer in question, a monochrome partial color image is created independently of one another in each of the three layers, corresponding to the one added to it Dye components. Because the release bath for the color-synthetic image creation is the same in all three layers.
For example sodium biphosphate or similar acidic salts, the synthesis of the partial color images in the three basic colors will take place simultaneously in all three layers, which after fixing all the silver salts as remaining transparent dye images in the overlap result in the natural color image.
