Process for manufacturing. stiehstoffb iltlier condensation products from acetylene and ammonia. It has been found that nitrogen-containing condensation products can advantageously be obtained from acetylene and ammonia if one works with catalysts which promote metals which do not or only little promote carbon formation from acetylene in free Form included.
-Is such metals, for example, those mentioned in "13rennstoffehemie", Volume 2, Page <B> 5 </B> <B> (1921) </B>, such as zinc, cadinium, gold and the like, are considered , preferably in the table with other substances, especially those that also have a catalytic effect.
The metal-containing catalysts have the advantage over the known, in addition to having a very long service life, that they deliver good yields even at temperatures at which, for example, the known combinations of oxidic liquids are not yet effective. Thus, with such catalysts, very high yields of aromatic compounds, which preferably consist of pyridine derivatives, are obtained even at <B> -250 '</B>.
Catalysts which contain only the metals described above, for example cadmium, in a finely divided state as effective components, produce condensates with a particularly high content of pyridine bases.
The multicomponent catalysts are expediently produced by impregnating a highly porous support with solutions of such salt mixtures which, when heated in a reducing atmosphere, are converted into oxides on the one hand and finely divided metals on the other. However, you can also mix the catalyst components in the form of their oxides with trituration and pasting in water or precipitate together from salt solutions and then treat the mixture with reducing agents.
Furthermore, by impregnating suitable sparingly soluble components with easy-to-dissolve and more detailed reducing treatment, catalyst materials of the composition described can also be obtained.
It is advisable to preheat the gas mixture before it enters the contact space. The products obtained are preferential denaturing agents for alcohols - and <B> kn </B> the like, <I> Example <B>1:</B> </I> Active silica is mixed with a solution of aluminum nitrate and cadmium nitrate soaks; the mass is then dried and treated with dry hydrogen at 400 'for 12 hours.
An acetylene-ammonia mixture passed over this catalyst mass at 2.50 'gives a high yield of liquid condensation products that remains constant for days, whereas no condensate is obtained with aluminum oxide alone under the same conditions at this temperature.
<I> Example 2 </I> Zinc oxide is slurried with a dilute gold chloride solution and dried in a reducing atmosphere. A mixture of equal parts by volume of acetylene and ammonia is passed through this catalyst mass at 450 '. The yield of liquid <B> C </B> 21 condensation products is almost twice the amount that is obtained with zinc oxide alone under otherwise identical conditions.
<I>Example<B>3:</B> </I> Silica gel is soaked with cadmium nitrate solution and exposed to a reducing gas flow at <B> 300 '</B> for several hours. A gas mixture consisting of equal parts of ammonia and acetylene is passed over the catalyst mass thus obtained at 300-350 '.
Mait receives a condensate which consists of about 8 ()% pyridine bases (mainly picolines).
<I> Example 4: </I> About a catalyst mass produced using cadrnium nitrate and lead nitrate in the manner described in example <B> 3 </B> is shown at <B> 320 '</B> a gas mixture obtained by electro-thermal decomposition, from natural gas diluted with hydrogen, which consists of 7 parts each of hydrogen and methane and 1 part acetylene and one more part Ammonia was added.
The condensate obtained by cooling the reaction gases contains in particular pyridine bases; the acetylene-free exhaust gas can be recirculated to the electrothermal decomposition and, after admixing ammonia, be passed over the catalyst again.
Other acetylene-containing gas mixtures, for example those that arise when the electric arc acts on coke oven gases, can also be used with the same success.
