Asynchronous motor with squirrel cage rotor. Asynchronous motors with squirrel cage rotors are primarily started in a star-delta connection in order to obtain the greatest possible torque with a tolerable starting current when starting up. The object of the invention is now a new type of rotor of an asynchronous machine, which makes the high-voltage switch otherwise required for starting superfluous and enables a very advantageous start-up characteristic.
The invention consists in the fact that the winding bars of the short-circuit winding, which are permanently connected to one another at their ends by short-circuit rings, are also short-circuited over part of their total length, depending on the speed of the rotor.
The invention is illustrated in an example in the drawing. This shows the laminated stator core s of an asynchronous motor with the primary winding p and the laminated rotor core r with the winding bars fc, which are short-circuited to one another by rings c at their outer ends. According to the invention, further contact pieces f are now provided, which apply against this at a certain speed under the influence of centrifugal force within the rods k and they also short-circuit them at the contact points.
The bars k are composed of central parts a of high conductivity and outer parts b of lower conductivity, and the short-circuit rings c also have only a low conductivity. The parts a and b are conductively connected to one another by welding or soldering, or in some other way. The parts a have about the length of a normal cage winding, and the projections of the bars are about as large as the projections of the stator coil ends.
As a result of the great resistance that the ends b and the short-circuit rings c have, the entire cage also has a great resistance when the motor is at rest. So this has a large starting torque with a relatively small starting current and can run up to a certain speed. At this speed, the contacts f lie against the bars k and thus practically switch off the end parts of the short-circuit winding that have the high resistance electrically. The middle parts a of the rods form with the contacts f a new cage with relatively low resistance, and the motor can now run at a higher speed.
The resistance of the large cage can also be increased by giving the ends of the rods a smaller cross-section than the middle pieces, the ends of which can be made of the same material as this or of a lower conductivity. Depending on whether the rod parts a are short-circuited at once or in several groups in a certain sequence, any desired current and torque curve can be achieved and the motor can be given the characteristics of a slip ring motor, including the choice of material of different conductivity and of different cross-section for the ends of the different rods can contribute.
When fully short-circuited, the motor works like a motor with a normal squirrel-cage rotor and has the same degree of efficiency and the same power factor as this. PATENT CLAIM: Asynchronous motor with squirrel-cage rotor, characterized in that the winding bars of the short-circuit winding, which are permanently connected to one another at their ends by short-circuit rings, can also be short-circuited over part of their total length depending on the speed of the rotor.
