Plusieurs formes d'exécution de la pré sente invention ont été représentées, à titre d'exemple, aux dessins annexés dans les quels La fig. 1 est une élévation latérale d'une forme d'exécution montée sur un fragment du cône de projection, des arrachements ayant été pratiqués pour per- mettre de voir l'intérieur des enveloppes ou carters ; Les fig. 2 et 3 sont respectivement des détails d'une douille et d'un noyau plon geur qui font partie de l'appareil de la fig. 1;
La fig. 4 est une vue analogue à la fig. 1, mais montrant une forme d'exécution différente ; l'une des bobines de l'électro aimant a été brisée afin d'en montrer le noyau fixe et le noyau plongeur La fig. ô est un détail d'une variante de l'armature utilisée dans la forme d'exé cution de la fig. 4; La fig. 6 est une vue analogue à la fig. 1 mais montrant encore une autre forme d'exécution de l'invention ;
Safety device for cinematographic projection apparatus. The present invention relates to a safety device for a cinematographic projection apparatus, comprising a shutter whose fall is caused by an electromagnetic attraction when the film breaks or becomes tangled.
In accordance with the present invention, this device also comprises an auxiliary device which is also electromagnetic normally excited, and which, when its excitation ceases as a result of the rupture of a belt or of the reduction in power of the motor, triggers the fall of the motor. 'shutter.
Several embodiments of the present invention have been shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings in which FIG. 1 is a side elevation of an embodiment mounted on a fragment of the projection cone, cutouts having been made to allow viewing of the interior of the casings or housings; Figs. 2 and 3 are details of a socket and a plunging core, respectively, which form part of the apparatus of FIG. 1;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 1, but showing a different embodiment; one of the coils of the electromagnet has been broken in order to show the fixed core and the plunger core. Fig. ô is a detail of a variant of the frame used in the embodiment of FIG. 4; Fig. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 1 but showing yet another embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 7 is a rear view of the safety devices shown in FIGS. 1, 4 and 6; the cover plate of the safety device has been removed and tears have been made in the casing of the auxiliary mechanism in order to show its contents; Fig. 8 is a partial section on line â-8 of FIG. 7; Fig. 9 is also a partial section taken on line 9-9 of FIG. 7, the shutter handle having been removed and FIG. 10 is a diagram of the electrical connections.
In fig. 1, 4, 6 and 7 it can be seen that the safety device 9 comprises a casing 10 having a base 11, which allows it to be fixed to the cone 12 of the casing of a projection device. The rear of the housing 10 is closed by a plate 13, which serves as a bearing for a shaft 14 which projects forward from the housing 10. An electromagnet 15, capable of being excited when the film breaks, is attached to inside the housing 10. A mercury switch 16 is mounted on a spring support 17, the free end of which rests on a cam 18 fixed to the shaft 14, this cam being mounted. both to the action of the spring.
An arm 19 is attached to the outer end of the shaft 14 and carries a shutter plate 20 which can be tilted so as to come between the casing of the apparatus and the film which passes through this apparatus, when the film stops moving for some reason.
The shutter 20 is held out of the closed position by a latch 21 which has a shank 22 projecting outside the housing 10. An armature 23 is pivoted to the housing 10, just below the electro 25, and has a fallen oven end which takes a screw fixed to the side of the latch 21, so that the electro 15, when energized, will attract the armature 23 and the latch 21, and allow the shutter 20 to fall in the position where it prevents the passage of light.
When the shutter 20 swings down, the cam 18 rotates so that its planar face comes up, and the free end of the spring support 17 can then move down and swing the switch. at mercury 16, so that the sea cure contained in the tube leaves the terminals of the switch and opens the circuit. The connections of switch 16 are such that breaking the circuit at this point will cause the motor to stop, as will be shown below.
As seen in fig. 7, there are four connection terminals in the upper part of the housing 10, the two outer terminals being connected to the two terminals of the switch 16, while the two central terminals are connected to the opposite ends of the winding of the electro 15.
In order to activate the safety device, and to force the shutter 20 to come and intercept the rays of light which pass through the film, in the event that this film should cease to be soft due to the rupture of a belt or of the engine power drop, an auxiliary mechanism 24 is provided, which preferably comprises a box 25 fixed to the housing 10. In FIG. 1 it is seen that the box 25 contains an electromagnet 26, comprising a socket 27, a plunger 28 and a yoke 29.
The socket 27 extends vertically across the bottoms of the box 25 and the cylinder head 29 and it is placed in the center of the electro 26; this socket has a slot 30 which tends to prevent houcault currents to occur, when the electro 26 is energized. The socket also includes a flange 31 in which screws 32 can be passed to fix it to the bottom of the cylinder head 29, which ensures the position of the electro in the box 25. The plunger 28 has a body 33, made of material. magnet, and formed of blades or provided with a slot 34, a rod 35 of non-magnetic material and a head 36.
A bracket 37, attached to housing 10 in some way, supports a lever 38 which is pivoted at its lower end and which comes into or nearly contact with the underside of head 36 and with the underside of shank 22. When the electro 26 is energized, the body 33 will be attracted and the head 36 will take the position shown; but, when the electromagnet ceases to be energized, the plunger 28 will fall and the head 36 will lower the end of the lever 38, while the opposite end will raise the tail 22, which will activate the safety device 9 and will force the shutter 20 to intercept the light rays which pass through the film.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 4, 7 and 8, the box 25a is quite similar to the box 25, and it has a rib 39 to which the core 40 of an electro 41 can be fixed by screws or bolts. The core 40 is bifurcated into two elementary cores, one of which 42 extends in only part of the coil, while the other 43 extends above the coil. A support 44 is fixed to the bottom of the box 251, and extends upwards on one of the sides of the electro 41. At its upper part is articulated the frame 45 which passes below the tail 22.
The frame 45 tends to move upwards by the action of a spring which may be of any type, but which has been shown as a flat spring 46 tensioned, one end of which is wound around an ankle 47 serving as a pivot for the frame 45, while its other end acts on the frame 45, for example by means of a screw or any other projection placed on this frame. When the electro 41 is energized, the core element 43 attracts the frame 45, while the core element 42 attracts the plunger 48 hinged to the frame 45.
When possible, the various parts will be fabricated and assembled with care, so that the top of the core element 43 contacts the underside of the frame 45, while the top of the core element 42 is in contact with the base of the plunger 48, which has the effect of eliminating any danger of heating the electromagnet or of the armature clicking. It should be understood that the auxiliary mechanism will be as small and as compact as possible.
If it is not practical to obtain perfect contact between the various core elements, a very small air gap may be left between the core element 43 and the frame 45, or between the core element. 42 and the plunger 48, the latter solution being preferable, since it gives a large lever arm to hold the contact surfaces against each other.
As long as the electro 41 is energized, it is obvious that it will maintain the armature 45 against the action of the spring 46, but, as soon as it is de-energized, the spring 46 will cause the armature 45 to reverse upwards. , which will raise the tail 92 and cause the shutter to fall so as to intercept the light rays. So that the spring 46 cannot cause the armature 45 to oscillate beyond a certain point, a stop 49 is provided, fixed to the side of the housing 10, and limiting the upward movement of the lever, so that it this does not leave the field of attraction of electro 41.
Instead of articulating the plunger 48 to the frame 45, as has been shown in FIG. 4, it is possible (FIG. 5) to use a frame 45a of which the plunger 48a is rigidly fixed to the frame or is an integral part thereof. This frame works just like the frame 45, but so that the plunger 48a can accomplish its reciprocating movement in the perforation of the electromagnet 41, it is necessary to slightly bevel the free end of this plunger.
Fig. 6 shows an apparatus very similar to that of FIG. 4, and comprising a certain number of the same members which are designated by the same references, while the parts which are only similar to those of FIG. 4 have the same assigned references from expo sant a. In this embodiment, the core 421 of the electromagnet 411 is formed of two parts 43 which come into contact with the underside of the frame 45, and which, when the electro is energized, maintain this armature against the action of the spring 48.
The operation of the appliance is the same as in fig. 4, and an effort will also be made to obtain that the tops of the core elements 43 are in contact with the underside of the frame 45. When this is not practical, a small air gap will be left between the frame 45. and the two core elements 43, but especially between the frame and the core element which is closest to its free end. If we now refer to fig. 10, 50 is a contactor making it possible to connect the apparatus to a source of electrical energy, the two lines of which are indicated by A, B.
The conductor 51 connects one of the terminals of the contactor 50 to one side of the motor 17 which controls the projection mechanism of the cinematographic apparatus. A conductor 52 connects the other side of the motor M to a terminal of a switch 53 forming part of a switch 54. A conductor 55 connects the other terminal of the switch 53 to the opposite pole of the contactor 50, of so as to complete the motor circuit. One of the terminals of the switch 53 is mounted on the base 56 of the switch 54, while the other terminal is carried by a frame 57 articulated to a support of the base 56.
The switch 53 is kept closed by an electro 58 against the action of a spring 59. One terminal of a switch 60 is mounted on the base 56 and the other terminal is carried by a lever 61 articulated on a support of the base 56. The switch 60 is held closed by a spring 62. The motor M actuates the mechanism of the projection apparatus via the belts 63 and 64, which respectively support the rollers 65 and 66. The roller 65 is rotatably mounted on a lever 67 articulated above the lever 61 and carrying an arm 68 capable of tilting the end of the lever 61 downwards and of opening the switch 60, when the belt 63 breaks and allows the roller 65 to fall.
When the belt 64 breaks, it is the roller 63 which falls on the end of the lever 61 and which opens the switch 60.
A conductor 69 connects one of the terminals of the switch 60 to the conductor 51, while a conductor 70 connects its other terminal to one end of the winding of the electro 58. The other end of this winding is connected by a conductor 71 to one terminal of the mercury switch 16, while the other terminal of this switch is connected to the conductor 55 by the conductor 72. It is obvious that, as long as the switches 16, 60 and 50 are closed, a current will flow through the electro 58 which will keep the switch 53 closed.
One end of the primary winding of a transformer 73 is connected by a conductor 74 to the conductor 51, while its other end is connected by a conductor 75 to the conductor 52 so that current will flow through the primary of the transformer. transformer each time the switch 53 is closed. One end of the secondary winding of transformer 73 is connected by a conductor 76 to one end of the winding of electro 15, tan dis. that the other end of this winding is connected by a conductor 77 to one of the sides of the switches 78 and 79 which are normally open and which close as a result of the breaking of the film.
The other sides of these switches are connected to the other end of the secondary winding of transformer 73 by a conductor 80. Therefore, if one of the switches 78 or 79 is closed due to the breakage of the film , the current generated by the transformer 73, will pass through the electro 15, will excite it and force it to attract the armature 23 and the latch 21, which will oblige the shutter 20 to drop and intercept. light rays passing through the film. When the shutter 20 falls, the cam rotates and the spring holder 17 lowers the mercury switch 16, which cuts off the current, de-energizes the electro 58 and allows the spring 59 to open the switch 53 and stop the engine.
one end of the electronic winding in the auxiliary device 24 is connected by a conductor 81 to the conductor 80 between the switch 78 and the transformer 73, while the other end of this rolling end is connected by a conductor 82 to the conductor 76, so that the current generated by the transformer 73 will flow through this electro and will excite it. When the apparatus of FIG. 1, it can be seen that the plunger 28 will be maintained in its upper inactive position by the electro 26.
If the switch 53 is opened, the flow of current in the primary of the transformer 73 will be cut off, and as a result, no current will be produced by its secondary. The electro 26 will be de-energized, which will allow the fall of the plunger 28, the tilting of the lever 38 and the lifting of the tail 22.
If one of the two devices of fig. 4 and 6, the current generated by the transformer 75 will excite the electro 41 or 41a, and it will make it maintain the armature 45 against the action of the spring 46. If the switch 53 is open and the electro 41 or 41a de-energized, the spring 46 will tilt the frame 45 upwards and lift the tail 22, which will activate said safety device 9.
If we admit that the projector is in working order, and if the circuit breaker 50 is closed, the current will flow from this contactor 50 through the conductor 51, the motor M, the conductor 52, switch 53, conductor 55, to conjunc- tor 50, which will close the motor circuit and operate the projection apparatus.
At the same time, current will flow from contactor 50 through conductor 51, conductor 74, primary of transformer 73, conductor 75, switch 53 and conductor 55, to return to circuit breaker 50, from so that the transformer will generate a current in its secondary, which will flow through the; conductor 80, the conductor 81, the electro of the auxiliary system 24 and the conductor 82 to return to the transformer, which will keep the electromagnet excited and will prevent tail 22 from being lifted.
If the switch 53 were to be open, due to the rupture of a belt or the loss of power of the motor, this current would be cut and the electro de-energized, which would operate the device 9.
Current flows from conjoneteur 50 through conductor 51, conductor 69, switch 60, conductor 70, electro 58, conductor 71, sea cure switch 16, conductor 72 and conductor 55 up to the contactor 50, which excites the electro 58, which maintains the armature 57 against the action of the spring 59, and allows the switch 53 to remain closed.
If belt 63 or 5th belt 64 breaks, or if the electric power supply fails, electro 58 will be de-energized, which will open switch 53, stop the engine, de-energize the electro in the auxiliary mechanism 24 and actuate the safety device 9.
In the event that a film should break above or below the window, the breaker 78 or the switch 79 would close and a current would flow from one end of the secondary of the transformer 73 through the conductor 80, switch 78 or 79, conductor 77, electro 15, conductor 76 to the other end of the secondary winding, which would excite electro 15 and force it to attract L 'frame 23.
The latch 21 would allow the shutter 20 to fall, and at the same time the cam 18 would rotate, so that the spring support 17 would rock the mercury switch, which would open the circuit, so that the electro 58 would be de-energized and allow the spring 59 to open the switch 53.
