Gap seal for centrifugal machines working with liquids, especially for gas turbines with auxiliary liquid. In centrifugal machines working with liquids, especially in gas turbines with auxiliary liquid as the propellant, see considerable gap losses of auxiliary liquid between the rotating wheels and the housing. The present invention aims to reduce these losses.
It consists in the fact that the gap narrows in the direction of discharge and is sealed by a freely movable ring which, under the influence of periodically changing wall pressures in the flow space of the discharging working fluid and of opposing closing forces of any origin, automatically opens to the smallest gap opening adjusts.
In the figure, the network invention is shown, for example, for a gas turbine with auxiliary liquid.
The turbine has a water-free housing and achieves this through an elastic seal at the gap 3. It would be obvious to seal at these points in a known manner with elastically pressed slip rings with a large contact surface in order to make the water leakage impossible, but such would be Eating rings easily without careful oil lubrication. The sealing rings are now given that special shape, which can be seen from the figure. The sealing ring 4 seals, for example, the gap 3 between the impeller 1 and the housing 2.
It forms opposite the impeller on the one hand and the fixed housing wall 2 on the other hand two annular spaces, a loading space 5 and the outwardly narrowed flow space 6. Both are connected to each other and to your gap 3 to be sealed.
In the load space there is an unchangeable pressure in the steady-state condition, depending on the various gap pressures on the circumference of gap 3; the load space 5 is elastically sealed off from the housing wall 2, for example by a ring 7, around which a double sleeve 8 made of rubber or leather is placed in the manner of the known Fernis valve seal. The pressure in the flow chamber 6 would be approximately the same as in the load chamber 5 if the sealing ring 4 were to adjoin the wheel 1 so tightly that no water could flow between them.
This state is not sought according to the invention, because it would lead to the wear of the ring 4 and the pitting of the wheel collar. Rather, for the shape of the sealing ring 4, the intention is decisive to let a certain amount of water escape between the impeller and the sealing ring and give it lost, but only as much as to achieve the so-called pure liquid lubrication between the wheel and ring and to avoid the mutual wear is necessary. This deliberately permitted water loss is necessarily linked to an energy loss, but it remains significantly below that which would result from rotating the pair of wheels in the water-filled housing.
In order to achieve the state of the smallest possible flow, the sealing ring 4 is set up in such a way that it can neither be opened nor closed continuously during operation. The loading areas on both sides of the ring 4 are dimensioned such that when the sealing ring 4 rests tightly on the wheel 1, it tries to open itself under the influence of the wall pressure difference and the conveying effect of the wheel collar between the impeller and the sealing ring.
At the moment of the actual flow, however, the wall pressures decrease according to known laws: in the flow space 6, while they remain practically unchanged in the load space 5; - the ring 4 is therefore immediately pressed again against the impeller, from which it is just now lifting wanted.
This creates a small gap opening that allows little leakage water to be drawn off and yet enough to leave a sufficient film of lubricant between the impeller and sealing ring to prevent mutual wear and tear.
The static seal between the ring 4 and the fixed wall 2 can also be made by solid rubber, by elastic or un elastic metal rings; the closing load of the ring 4 can also be generated entirely or partially by springs, or the ring 4, the shape of a sheet-metal strip connected tightly to the housing, it can hold; In all these cases, the feature of the invention is the automatic adjustment of the sealing ring to the smallest gap opening. Of course, this gap seal can also be used and is new for all impellers of pumps, turbines and converters that work exclusively with liquids.
