In der Zeichnung sind verschiedene Aus führungsbeispiele der Erfindung dargestellt. Abb. 1 zeigt eine Anode mit einer Schutz, hülse, die über einen Widerstand leitend mit- einander verbunden sind, und Abb.2 zeigt eine besondere Anordnung des Widerstandes; Abb. 3 zeigt eine Anode mit Schutzhülse und einem besonderen Kern, die über Widerstände leitend miteinander in Verbindung stehen;
Anode with protective sleeves for mercury vapor rectifiers. In the case of mercury vapor rectifiers, re-ignition occurs when each anode assumes a negative potential with respect to the cathode for a half period (blocking time). Depending on the voltage and pressure conditions in the rectifier, a more or less strong reverse current will emanate from the anode as the negative electrode.
This reverse current is caused by positive ions which, for example, reach the barrier electrode through natural diffusion from the arc between an adjacent anode and the cathode and are strongly attracted by it. These ions collect around the anode head and form the so-called Langmuir dark room here.
The layer thickness of this space charge grows with increasing tension; this also increases their surface area and the number of trapped ions, and consequently also the current. With the usual anodes with curved guide cylinders made of metal or insulating material, the spread of the space charge around the anode also affects the anode's jacket with positive ions, so that in the event of: Disturbances on the anode surface, the reverse current from someone Point of the anode surface can grow to a short-circuit current starting from.
To reduce the risk of reignition, it is necessary to protect the anode jacket against the impact of positive ions. It has been proposed for the purpose to arrange the arc guide sleeve tightly around the anode BEZW. to enclose the anode with a special metal sleeve next to the arc guide sleeve. However, these known arrangements do not lead to the re-ignition being sufficiently limited or. to be eliminated entirely.
According to the present invention, backfiring is now made impossible by the fact that the metallic protective sleeve, which tightly encloses the anode in a known manner and is suspended from it in an isolated manner, is conductively connected to the anode via a high ohmic resistance: the anode thus protected in the usual way is surrounded with an arc guide sleeve. The protective sleeve can be arranged flush with the end face of the anode, but it can also protrude beyond the anode.
The anode is expediently leads out on its end face, but it can also be a drawn inward or. have a submerged core; The end face can just as well be curved or profiled differently. The resistance can be inside or outside the discharge vessel, respectively. embedded in the form of a rod, insulated, in the metallic protective sleeve, or in special insulators in the anode plate.
It has also been found that the return current is not evenly distributed over the surface of the anode. The center of the anode has a much higher return current than the rest of the ring surface. Measurements: have shown that the core is loaded almost 30 times more than the ring cross-section during the blocking time at 4000 volts.
Due to this fact, the anode with a core made of iron BEZW. Electrographite or another mercury-resistant material with a high specific resistance (chromium-nickel), which is either arranged in an isolated manner in the anode, .or. Is also connected to it via a high ohmic resistance.
Both the insulating material and the resistor must be made of a heat-resistant material such as quartz or silite. It is also useful to see the anode with a screen that intercepts the return current, but allows the forward current to reach the anode on the side. The screen is connected to either the anode protection sleeve or the anode core within the arc guide sleeve.
In the drawing, various exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown. Fig. 1 shows an anode with a protective sleeve, which are conductively connected to one another via a resistor, and Fig. 2 shows a special arrangement of the resistor; Fig. 3 shows an anode with a protective sleeve and a special core, which are conductively connected to one another via resistors;
in Fig.4 the union of an anode core according to Fig. 3 with a screen is shown, while Fig. 5 shows the union of the screen with the anode sleeve.
In Fig. 1, a denotes the anode made of metal or carbon, which is sealed against the inlet insulator b @ by means of graphite grit or intrinsically isolated. The protective sleeve c, which can also be made of metal or carbon and is suspended on the lead-in insulator, is flush with the anode, which is flat on the front side. d is the resistance between the protective sleeve and the anode, which in the exemplary embodiment is installed in the ineffective space between insulator b and arc guide sleeve e.
The latter can consist of metal or insulating material in a known manner; it is connected to the anode plate in a conductive or insulated manner, and expediently surrounds the lead-in insulator so that there is a small air gap. The arc guide sleeve can, however, also be designed in such a way that it consists of in its upper part. Insulating material and in the lower part, approximately from the plane of the end face of the anode, made of metal.
With an anode designed in this way, with a forward current, the arc only starts at the anode a itself, while the protective sleeve carries almost no current. During the reverse current period, the small reverse current is distributed over the face of the anode a and the protective sleeve c. The current flowing through the protective sleeve cannot grow like a short circuit due to the resistance.
In Fig. 2, the arrangement of the resistance d is shown in the form of a rod in an insulator f, which is also used to insulate the suspension of the metallic arc guide sleeve e. The insulator f must be sealed against the anode plate g in a high vacuum-safe manner. The current-conducting connection between the resistor d and the protective sleeve c is made in a known manner by a contact spring.
Fig. 3 shows an anode a with a specially inserted core h sunk into the anode. The anode is again surrounded by the protective sleeve c, which stood over .the resistance d -from Silit or: the like is connected to it. The core h made of iron, chromium nickel or electrographite is also connected to the anode via resistors i and k made of silicon or the like. The core can also against. the anode to be arranged in isolation, namely quartz or the like is expediently used as a heat-resistant insulating material.
The resistors d, i and k are respectively in the example shown as disks. Rings formed; The insulating interlayers that may be used are also given the same shape. The diameter of the core is expediently 1/1 of the outer diameter of the anode.
The operational safety of a rectifier is significantly increased by using anodes as shown in Fig. 3. The ring-shaped surface of the anodes alone guides the forward and reverse currents. Here, too, the purpose of the protective sleeve is to keep the backflow and the forward flow away from the jacket of the anode.
During the blocking time, no flashback can occur at the anode core; because, if it is isolated in the anode, it carries no current at all, but if it is connected to the anode via a high ohmic resistance, the return current remains small. An anode with an insulated core offers the advantage that no backfire can spread at the point of greatest load during the blocking time. There. but .the rest of the anode area is less loaded, the probability that reignition in the rectifier can occur at all decreases.
Fig. 4 shows an anode arrangement according to Fig. 3, which is provided with a special iron screen 1, which is connected to the anode lei tend via the rod made of iron or tungsten. The purpose of the screen 1 is to allow the forward current to reach the anode unhindered, but to intercept the return current and to lead it to the anode via the h and the resistors i, k. The core h is sunk into the anode, but flush with its discharge surface. The rest of the design corresponds to the examples already described.
The circular area of the anode carrying the forward current is very strongly relieved of reverse currents in this way during the blocking time.
Another embodiment of this latter type is shown in Fig. 5. Here the screen 1 is conductively connected to the protective sleeve c via the struts m. The anode a is shown solid without a special core, and the end face of the anode is curved inwardly. The protective sleeve c protrudes over the face of the anode. The purpose and mode of operation correspond to the arrangement shown in Fig. 4.
