Jewel clasp. The object of the invention is a clasp for a piece of jewelry, a wristwatch or a bracelet, for example.
It is characterized by the fact that it comprises: a sheath connected to one of the ends of the jewel and established in such a way that it can be opened to accommodate the other end of the jewel in it and then close it; a transverse member connected to the other end of the bracelet and which can be placed in housings of the sheath arranged so that, depending on those chosen, the jewel has a greater or lesser length ; the all with the aim that by housing the first end of the jewel in the open sheath, by placing the transverse member in the selected housing (s) and by enclosing the sheath, this jewel is maintained in the closed position at the chosen length.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the clasp, applied to a bracelet. Figs. 1 and 2 are a longitudinal section and a plan.
At one of the ends x of the bracelet a, made of a flexible metallic fabric, is secured by its left end the sheath ô which has a rectangular cross section, as well as a curved longitudinal section and is made up of two parts: a part c in the form of a trough open at its upper part, as well as that of these ends which is opposite to the point of attachment of the end x of the bracelet a; a cover d connected by a hinge e to the part c. Rectilinear oblique notches f are formed in the two longitudinal side walls h of this part e and are directed from bottom to top from the right to the left.
As for the cover d, it is provided at its free end with two tabs y which force a little on the side walls h and are partially housed in external grooves i of these to hold it in place. The other end y of the bracelet a is secured to a transverse cylindrical bar j projecting on both sides of the latter and intended to be placed in two notches f located on either side of the sheath. The internal dimensions of said sheath b are such that this end y of the bracelet a can be accommodated therein.
The operation of this form of execution is as follows: The bracelet is still open on the wrist, the end y of the bracelet is introduced into the sheath b, open, and the bar j is placed in the pair of notches f which corresponds to the turn of the wrist; the cover d is then closed which is hand held in place by its legs y.
If in these conditions a traction is exerted from left to right on the end y of the bracelet or from right to left on its end x, it tends to make the bar j penetrate more deeply into the notches f where it is located, as a result of the oblique arrangement of these. On the other hand, the cover d held in place on the trough b by its tabs g prevents the bar j from coming out of the notches f in the event that the bracelet takes slack for any cause and where consequently the two ends x, y approach each other.
Housing receiving the bar; may have another layout.
The bracelet may of course differ from the one shown.
You can apply the clasp to jewelry other than a bracelet.
