Solche Mg-Al-Legierungen zeigen gute Beständigkeit gegen Seewasser.

Aluminum-1Vlagnesium alloy resistant to corrosion by seawater. 1) The present invention relates to an aluminum-magnesium alloy which is highly resistant to dissolving agents, namely seawater.
In-depth studies have shown that even pure magnesium-aluminum-alloy-; "eri can, under certain conditions, counter the attacks of dissolving agents with a previously neglected resistance.
The alloy is characterized by the fact that the magnesium it contains r @ # stlessly as a mixed crystal. Aluminum before but not as A1, Mg @. A further C @ regenstancl of the invention forms a process for the production of the alloy, ii <<eli which the cast alloy is from a higher temperature for the purpose of homogenizing its crystals after cooling.
There. The individual types of crystal, from which I compose and build most of the alloys, are more or less spaced apart in the metal series, those alloys will be subject to the least dissolving attacks which only consist of <I> one </I> There are types of crystal that can only be mixed crystal in alloys. Now, despite the ability of the alloy additive to dissolve in the base metal, there is not always a perfect solution equilibrium.
In the case of castings in particular, it will in most cases occur that, due to the given solidification conditions, a heterogeneous structure occurs, despite the possibility of complete dissolution. Only extensive diffusion, for example caused by an annealing process, causes the crystals to be homogenized and, as a result, the corrosion resistance of such an alloy is increased.
An example should clarify what has been said. According to the scientific investigations available to date, about 10% Mg of A1 can be absorbed in solid solution at normal temperature, forming what is known as the α-mixed crystal.
However, since the Mg-aluminum alloys in particular have a high crystallization rate, while the diffusion rate is low, rapid cooling, in particular when casting in the mold, can always lead to the deposition of a second type of crystal ss or the chemical compound A1 , Mg2 come.
The Mg content that the a crystals lack for their cold saturation is found in the ss crystals, which not only tend to be more corrosive themselves, but also have a considerable potential difference compared to the a crystals.
Only when the casting is heated for hours below the solidus temperature of the alloy in question, for example in a tempering furnace, is there an opportunity for extensive diffusion and for the establishment of the equilibrium that has been lost due to the rapid solidification. The Mg-richer crystals leave part of their 371g content to the MB-poor crystals. After this equalization, only a-crystals are left. The alloy, which now contains a single type of mixed crystal, successfully resists corrosion.
Corrosion-resistant Mg-Al alloys with about 10% 1V1- can be obtained by annealing the pieces for 5 to 8 hours at temperatures below the solidus point of the alloy.
The complete diffusion and thus the achieved corrosion resistance of the alloy can be checked meta-graphically. A 5 to 20% chromic acid solution is considered a sensitive etchant to detect any ss crystals still present.
Such Mg-Al alloys show good resistance to sea water. Further extensive, long-lasting tests carried out under the conditions prevailing in practice have shown that, for example, the addition of Sb, Bi, cadmium, individually or in combination, also provides protection in the sense mentioned above.
The crystals of aluminides of the metals of the iron group, which, in the presence of Sb, precipitate in such a fine distribution that they not only have an improving effect on the mechanical properties of the alloy runes, but also the 'crystal of pure aluminum, as even compared to the magnesium-containing mixed crystal of Al do not have a significant voltage difference, can occur in the crystal structure without affecting the corrosion resistance.
While the addition of Sb and Cd will usually not exceed 2 and must remain optimally below 0.5%, manganese additions can easily go up to .1 to% and higher. The situation is similar with nickel. Chromium additives, on the other hand, can only be made in very small amounts up to 1%, at most 2%. According to the solidification diagram, at 2% Cr the start of solidification is already at 800, at 3% Cr at 900, at .t% Cr at 1000.
At tile temperatures of the melting material, however, a primary elimination of the difficult-to-melt component takes place without special precautionary measures, so that use according to the present invention can no longer be considered. An alloy that is built up according to the criteria mentioned would therefore have the following composition, for example:
EMI0002.0057
However, it has been found that not all features of such an alloy have to be present in order to give a light metal that is resistant to corrosion to a certain extent.
Such alloys would be obtained, for example, with the following composition:
EMI0002.0062
Mg <SEP> 3-6 <SEP>% <SEP> or <SEP> Mg <SEP> 3-G <SEP>. <B> 1 </B> <SEP> or <SEP> Mn <SEP> 3
<tb> Mn <SEP> 1-d <SEP>% <SEP> Cd <SEP> 1,5 <SEP> 1f) <SEP> Mg <SEP> 3
<tb> Cr <SEP> 0.5 <SEP>% <SEP> X1 <SEP> remainder <SEP> Sb <SEP> 1 <SEP> ö
<tb> Al <SEP> remainder <SEP> Al <SEP> remainder By appropriate selection of the metals alloyed with the pure aluminum, it can be sufficient that protective coatings form automatically on the alloy when the seawater starts to corrode.
