Les fig. 1 et 2, qui sont toutes deux simplement schématiques, montrent, respec tivement en coupe axiale verticale transver sale à l'axe de son; vilebrequin et en coupe axiale verticale suivant ledit axe, un moteur Diesel monocylindrique, vertical et à deux temps, établi suivant l'invention;
Les fig. 3 et 4, qui, elles, ne sont plus schématiques, de même que les suivantes montrent, de manière semblable aux deux précédentes (la seconde correspondant à. la coupe suivant 3-3 fig. 6). un moteur de même espèce que celui que les fig. 1 et 22 ne montrent que schématiquement; Les fig. 5, 6 et 7, qui sont à plus grande échelle de même que les suivantes, montrent, respectivement en vue de face, en vue moitié en plan et moitié en coupe horizontale sui vant 6---6 fig. 5 et en vue par en clessouF#, la culasse dudit moteur;
<I>t'.</I> La.
Les deux liquides à. injecter sent < @ons- tamment maintenus sous une très haute pres sion élastique. La: fig. 1. montre, comme exemple schématique. deux bouteille;
cette douille étant coulissa ble sur l'arbre b et portant les deux .corps de came cylindrique 7n' et mat, le régulateur dé plaçant cette douille axialement pour modi fier l'action des nez. 7t1 et rte dont la, construc- tioü est indiquée sommairement par la fig. 14. Cette figure permet de saisir que l'injec tion d'eau (nez n2) suit toujours i;
Si clans les moteurs décrits, on elioisit cor rectement les calages respectifs des diverses parties actives (choc que pourra toujours réaliser, on ne peut. plus aiséniciit, tout bommu de l'art), le fonctionnement aura lieu comme suit, étant supposé qu'il a été lancé (auquel effet on pourra. avoir recours à toutes dis positions appropriée;

Internal combustion engine for injected liquid hydrocarbons, without the aid of atomizing air, into the air heated by high compression. The current. invention relates to the class of internal combustion engines for liquid hydrocarbons in which these hydrocarbons are injected without the aid of atomizing air and this in <B> there </B> combustion chamber whose air has become hot by its high compression.
The internal combustion engine which is the object of this invention has a combustion air booster pump for the engine cylinder, so that the combustion chamber thereof can be given a larger capacity than in an ordinary engine. , a mechanical injector-sprayer, associated with the engine cylinder and the injection part of which is arranged to be crossed alternately by a liquid hydrocarbon and by water to carry out combustion in the presence of water and maintain at the same time the constant cleanliness of the injector-sprayer_ and the means for maintaining the liquid fuel and the water to be injected constantly under a very high elastic pressure.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1 and 2, which are both simply diagrammatic, show, respectively in vertical axial section transverse to the sound axis; crankshaft and in vertical axial section along said axis, a single-cylinder, vertical and two-stroke diesel engine, established according to the invention;
Figs. 3 and 4, which, for their part, are no longer schematic, just as the following show, in a manner similar to the previous two (the second corresponding to the section according to 3-3 fig. 6). an engine of the same kind as that shown in FIGS. 1 and 22 show only schematically; Figs. 5, 6 and 7, which are on a larger scale as well as the following ones, show, respectively in front view, in half plan view and half in horizontal section following 6 --- 6 fig. 5 and in keyhole view, the cylinder head of said engine;
Fig. 8 shows, next cut cry 8-8 fig. 4, the air booster pump of said injector; Fig. 9 shown, in section along 9-10 fig. 3, a camshaft of this engine.
The fi-. 10, 11 and 12 show it, respectively in section according to 9-10 fig. 3, cry section according to 11-1l fig. 10 and 1.2 and in section along 12-12, fig. 11, 1111 liquid supply pump system, Figs. 13 and 1.1. finally, show, one, the outline of one of the organs of the motor of the threads. 3 and .l, the other the outline of the cams of its camshaft.
The engines shown in the drawing operate in two stages. They include means for supplying the engine alternately with liquid fuel and water serving as coolant.
In fig. 1 and 2, a b c <I> and </I> d denote. respectively, a vertical engine cylinder, an engine piston, a crankshaft and a flywheel. arranged to leave, at the top dead center of the piston, a larger combustion chamber than is customary in ordinary diesel engines. The shape of the combustion chamber is preferably adapted to the shape of the mist projected by the mechanical spray nozzle employed.
This engine comprises, next to the engine cylinder n, an air booster pump allowing a.11 engine piston b to start its compression stroke by acting on the already partially compressed air. On the. end-. 2, we see an additional crankshaft elbow acting by a connecting rod on a piston t 'sliding in the cylinder <I> t </I> of the booster pump. whose, inlet valve t4 is placed in said piston. <I> t '. </I> The.
transfer valve t \, opening to the engine cylinder a, is shown in, fig. 2 as a valve controlled by a rod r and this at. from a cam rota: tic-e u. placed on a shaft 1 (fig. 2) journaled at the top of the eviindre and driven by an appropriate transmission shaft 1 '.
The charge air enters the cylinder a through openings n placed closer to the combustion chamber than the exhaust ports (c which give into the. Exhaust nozzle a '. With this arrangement the supercompression prerequisite can be established correctly.
The mechanical injector-sprayer, com takes a female part f with a conical internal surface, with a point facing the motor piston, here; a male part f exactly filling said female part and. in the outer surface; rrie of said male part there is a groove or helical groove g closed outwardly and terminating in the. combustion chamber. Liquid fuel under pressure is. brought by an earial to a certain point in the throat g.
A little further from the free end of said groove, therefore upstream. opens a water channel. The arrival of both liquids is controlled by needles le 'and k \ (fig. 1), themselves controlled by noses ii' and ir \ provided on the surface of two bodies dr @ cylindrical cams m 'and in'.
Both liquids at. injecting feels constantly maintained under a very high elastic pressure. The: fig. 1. shows, as a schematic example. two bottle;
II. ' and h. = comprising an active gas cushion. as a spring, the origin of the pipes .j '<I> and </I> j going to the engine being placed below this ccussin. ('f5 bottles are supplied, one with water, the other with the combustible liquid, by means of piston pumps, suction and pressure,
of disposal as due their flow automatically decreases as soon as due. resistance to their piston exceeds a certain (- force, which is equivalent to a.11 maintaining constant pressure in the soft <I> la '</I> and M.
On the fit ,,,. 1, the two liquid pumps used are identical, the gra.uche pump alone will be described in what follows. The pump comprises a cylinder q 'in which slides a plunger q ", which a spring q2' constantly pushes outwards to make it complete its suction stroke.
The interior of said cylinder q 'has in a side chapel tc' a suction valve iv "and a discharge valve w" opening towards the bottle h '. The flow of the pump is ensured: as follows: An oscillating lever pushes the plunger which was tilting its discharge stroke. This lever r ', oscillating around a pivot, is controlled by an eccentric s' wedged on the control shaft s ".
A res comes out suitably calibrated s' is placed on the rod s12 of the connecting rod of the eccentric s' and the end of said lever r 'is driven by a sleeve r "capable of sliding on the rod s12 at the time , where the resistance opposed by the plunger q "is strong enough for the spring to compress and decrease, or even eliminate, thus there, the stroke of said plunger.
The quantities of liquid injected (water and fuel) are regulated by a regulator shown in fig. 2 in the form of a centrifugal regulator p capable of moving the injection cams nyt 'and mt2 amally, the noses of which are capable of determining variable injection times for each axial position of the cams. Preferably, it is arranged so that the needle for the water 7e 'opens a little before the closing of the needle for the fuel k 1, - so as to maintain a continuous flow of liquid at, through the injector-sprayer.
The motor shown in fig. 3 to 14 are distinguished from that shown in FIGS, 1 and 2 only by details which it will suffice to indicate summarily, especially since there is correspondence between the reference letters used. The following description relates to FIGS. 3 to 14.
The combustion chamber is conical and its taper angle corresponds to that of the cone of the spray injector (fig. 3 and 4). the top of its cone being opposite to that of the injector-sprayer; it thus offers a form of volume which will be well filled by the mist coming out of the injector-sprayer.
A combustion air booster pump supplies the engine cylinder via its cylinder head by means of a controlled valve t2 (fig. 4), the seat of which constitutes the booster port for the fuel inlet. booster air, t3 being the transfer pipe connecting said valve t2 to the discharge valve of the booster pump.
(Fig. Î shows in particular the booster port side and the transfer pipe t '.) The cylinder t of the booster pump - and its piston t' are clearly visible in fig. 4. The booster pump suction valve, designated t4, is controlled; it is my trea in fig. 8.
The same figure shows the discharge valve t2 which is automatic and opens in: the discharge pipe t3. Of the two needles which control the flow of fuel and pressurized water in the injector-sprayer, one cannot have in FIG. 3 only one needle, that of the fuel, designated by 7c '. It is housed -in a -cavity there.
The other needle, that for water, is housed parallel to the first, in another cylindrical cavity i2. These two cavities <I> i 'and </I> i2 can be seen in FIGS. 5 and 6.
The two parallel needles are controlled from a control shaft located at the top of the housing as clearly shown in fig. 3, where the rod o 'controls the needle k'. Fig. 9 shows the arrangement of the control which comprises a rotary shaft 1, which drives the following four cams: the cam is actuated. by the stem <I> v, </I> la. t2 booster valve placed in the. wall of the combustion chamber.
The cam t6 actuates, by the rod t5, the. suction valve t 'of the. booster pump. The two needles <I> k '</I> and k2 are actuated by rods <I> o' </I> and o2, themselves actuated by noses n 'and n2 which is carried by a socket mounted with a long key ,
this bush being slidable on the shaft b and carrying the two cylindrical cam body 7n 'and mat, the regulator moving this bush axially to modify the action of the noses. 7t1 and rte, the construction of which is summarily indicated by FIG. 14. This figure shows that the water injection (nose n2) always follows i;
Immediately, the fuel injection (nose n ') even starts a little before. end of fuel injection. The. Fi ,. 13 shows the surface (developed in plan) of the male part j 'of the injector-sprayer, on which it can be seen that the water inlet, in the groove g (orifice g2) is located more far from the outlet of this groove g (further upstream) than the fuel inlet (orifice g ')
. (The orifices g 'and g2 are, moreover, clearly visible on Fig. G which indicates the tangential supply of liquid.
The feed pumps for water and for pressurized fuel are controlled by a shaft designated by # "- s2 'and visible for example in fig. 11. This shaft #" - <B> 3 < / B> 21 is driven by a freewheel (by pawls) by means of a worm wheel. Fig. 10 shows these pawls and the ratchet wheel y on which they act.
The shaft s "-s2 'carries two eccentrics or (cams s' and s2 (fig. 11) to act on pushers r" and r' which are intended to actuate the plungers of the pumps. The pump for the fuel (which is identical to the pump for water) is shown in Fig. 12. Note the eccentric s', the pusher ri 'which acts on an oscillating lever) -'; the latter pushes the plunger q ".
The flow control is obtained by the fact that the fulcrum of the oscillating lever r 'is arranged to be able to yield as soon as the required pressure on the plunger is reached. For this purpose, the central pivot point of said lever r 'is on a sliding rod and subjected. to the influence of a calibrated spring s \ in such a way that this rod can give way and thereby reduce, or even eliminate, the stroke of the plunger g ". The operation of the device corresponds to that of the device of FIGS. 1 . and 2, only the means used differ.
A snap-fit (ratchet wheel y, fig. 11 and 10) is provided so that the pumps can be operated by hand while the engine is stopped. It suffices to apply a hand crank to the free square end (g ', fi-. <B> 11) </B> of the shaft controlling the pumps.
As for the regulator, it can be any shell, provided that it axially displaces the sleeve ria'-r) t, 2 (fig. 9). The, fig. 3 shows a hand lever p) capable of (effeetuci- this axial displacement; but the sleeve could just as well be- moved by an automatic regulator.
If, in the motors described, the respective wedges of the various active parts are correctly chosen (shock that can always be achieved, one cannot be more easily, quite skilled in the art), the operation will take place as follows, it being assumed that it has been launched (to which effect one can have recourse to all appropriate provisions;
) and examined at the time. where, its piston b having reached the bottom (the race, this peak goes up.
Immediately on., <I> ri '</I> exhaust lights blocked by the. piston 1), the boost valve 12 is tiinené (1 <<. to rise and it is thus introduced into:
the cylinder (by pump 1) the. quantity (the desired air (, so that, when l (# piston b reaches its end (the upper stroke (= ur (-, the (@ volumetric pressure of this same quantity of air) is sufficient to allow the self-ignition of the mixture that will be formed with (: 11th.
As the piston reaches its so-called upper end of stroke, the injection of the hydrocai '1) is given rise to (-. And, the compression becoming more and more severe, the resulting mixture is supplied). to ignite and. to burn, while the injection of hydrocarbon (@ continues.
Then, if the hydrocarbon injection is complete, or while it is ending. the injection of water takes place with the following effects:
Of a bet. total elimination from inside the injector of all traces of "hydrocarbon, thus suppressing the said risk that such traces simply turn into carbonaceous matter and that these do not obstruct said injector; on the other hand, fuel - l;
ion of this kind r1'éinulsion constituted by the small quantity of hydrocarbon which was left in the injector and the first: part of the water injected and a @ -: int served to eliminate it.
therefore prolongation (l (@ the duration of the combustion; and, on the other hand again, transformation of the quantity of water injected in addition to said first parts of this water into water vapor, therefore, of on one side, and given the frigories produced by the vaporization of this last quantity of water, a possibility conferred, on the parts of the fuel used which had not yet burned, key to burn completely and this without resulting in an element exaggerated temperature rise, and, on the other side,
and in view of the fact of the tendency of said water vapor to remain above the flue gases, a possibility conferred on. these last keys then escape under better conditions, the whole taking place while the piston is driven towards Baden on its course.
Finally, and when the piston is, descended low enough to unmask the lights <B> d, </B> there is, exhaust through them and. that of the major part, if not of all, of the gases which the water vapor repels in a way. The piston goes up after that. and. the set of operations is repeated as before.
It is advantageous to have recourse, in addition (to the aforementioned provisions, to additional provisions, such as the ones below.
Choice for the throat coil. of the conical injector-sprayer of a helical curve either in constant pitch or in pitch! progressive, the increase in cc may or may not be regular.
Establishment such, of cams -na 'and ïe, that their active parts or noses W <I> and </I> w that show the fi-. \? and. 14 are moved together along their axis, the opening times of the two hands <I> fie '</I> and k = always remain proportional and can themselves be modified at will.
Use, as water for the injection of water, of distilled water, so as to eliminate any risk of transforming the purity of said water into materials liable to block the injector, this distilled water being able to be obtained, advantageously, by borrowing, from the engine, and in particular from its exhaust, the heat necessary for its distillation.
Use, in addition to the hydrocarbon for normal feeding, of a hydrocarbon which is more easily flammable than this. which can be introduced into the engine cylinder by the same spray injector, by means of an additional groove in the latter, or by a separate injector.
