Ball hinge. This invention relates to a ball hinge.
In current door hinges, the elements or knuckles are assembled by nodes embedded in each other and by a common axis which passes through these embedded elements, so that, when there is wear of the friction parts , wear favored most of the time by the friction of iron on iron, the result is a play which is harmful to the good performance of the door and its appearance.
The hinge, according to the invention, which overcomes these drawbacks is characterized by the fact that at least two elements of the hinge have a spherical support surface and are connected together with a suitable clearance.
In the accompanying drawing which shows various examples of execution of hinges according to the invention, FIG. 1 is a first embodiment of a complete hinge; Fig. 2 to 4 are variants. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 1 of the hinge instead of resting directly on one another the two hinge elements 1, 2 integral with the respective wings of the hinge, is interposed between these elements a support member 3 of spherical shape crossed by the axis 4 of the hinge which in this example is a bolt.
The hinge elements 1, 2 may for example be made of iron, steel or any other suitable substance exhibiting a high resistance in shearing and tearing and these elements comprise in their interior hemispherical support surfaces so as to suitably fit the support member 3 which consists of a sphere made of a suitable anti-friction metal such as for example bronze, bronze alloy or any other suitable substance.
The axle bolt 4 will pass through with suitable play either the two hinge elements 1, 2 or only one of these elements and a play will also preferably be left when the axle bolt 4 passes through the component. support 3, as shown in fig. 2, titi spring 5 also being interposed in this example between one end of bolt 4 and the corresponding hinge element 2, so as to ensure elastic assembly of the various parts and to automatically compensate for wear, which eliminates all Game.
. Thanks to this arrangement, the centering of the hinge elements 1, 2 takes place automatically on the support member 2, the pivot axis of the hinge then no longer being the bolt 4 which connects the elements 1, 2 , but the line which joins the centers of ball joints formed by the spherical elements, so that the pivoting of these hinge elements can be performed correctly regardless of the relative position of the hinge elements.
It emerges from these provisions that the hinges of the doors of cars and more particularly of motor cars does not need to be carried out with as much precision, each of the hinges arranged for the support of the door being automatically adjusted to make either axis coincide. particular oscillation with the axis of rotation of the door regardless of the relative position of the two elements of each hinge.
The support member 3 preferably has a spherical shape, so as to ensure correct operation of the doors despite any mounting faults. This support member can also, as indicated in FIG. 3 be integral with studs G, 7 with springs 8, 9.
According to fig. 4 element 1 has a convex hemispherical support surface which fits into a concave hemispherical support surface of element 2.
The support of the hinge elements can be softened, for example by arranging balls between the bearing surface and the hinge elements 1, 2.
The hinge can have any desired external shape and any size suitable for the use for which it is intended. These hinges can be mounted in any number desired, for example following a door, the arrangement (axis 4, in the form of a bolt, allowing easy removal of the hinge and thus facilitating removal (the door for repairs, visits , etc. as well as for the replacement of parts such as sphere, spring, etc. worn or out of service for any reason.
The invention applies to automobile or other car doors, to all doors in general whatever their use, and more particularly in all cases where any two members must be mounted relative to each other. other so as to be able to pivot.
