Device for supplying an electric oven. It is known that during the operation of electric ovens very large and irregular variations are observed in the flow rate of the current and consequently in the energy absorbed, the power supply being at constant voltage.
The present invention relates to a device for supplying an electric furnace in which the voltage is modified inversely to the variations of the current, so that the energy absorbed is kept practically constant.
In the device which is the subject of the invention, the voltage is modified inversely to the variations of the current by means which algebraically add to the supply circuit a potential difference, adjustable in size and direction, and generated by the line. power itself.
The accompanying drawing is shown, by way of example, the diagram of an embodiment of the device which is the subject of this invention.
As can be seen in this figure, the electrodes 1 of the oven, which is assumed to be single-phase, are connected to the secondary, S of a transformer T whose primary P is inserted into the supply line L through a device compensator.
This device comprises a transformer t whose primary p is inserted into the supply line L while its secondary is divided into sections ending in pads 2 of a switch whose brushes 3 and 4 can run through the entire row of pads 2 and are respectively connected to a pole of the line L and to a conductor 5 connected to the primary P of the transformer T.
As a result of this arrangement, to the difference in potential existing between the poles of the league L is added algebraically the difference in potential generated in the section or in the sections of the secondaries included between brushes 3 and 4, this difference in potential being in agreement or in opposition with the potential difference of the line L, according to the direction in which the section or the sections of the secondary are inserted in the circuit by the brushes 3 and 4.
In other words, when the brushes 3 and 4 occupy the position shown in the drawing, the added potential difference has the maximum value in the same direction, while it has the maximum value in the opposite direction if the position of the brushes is upside down (ie if the brush 4 is on the extreme left pin and the brush 3 on the extreme right pin); naturally the added potential difference will have a lower value when the brushes occupy an intermediate position and it will be zero when the brushes press on the same pad 2.
To achieve a substantially constant flow of the line L it is therefore sufficient to move the brushes 3, 4 of the switch so that the potential difference supplied by the line L is added a potential difference in agreement with it, if the current consumption on the part of the furnace decreases, and a potential difference in opposition when the current consumption increases and this in proportion such that the product of the voltage at the terminals of the transformer T by the current flowing through it remains substantially constant, or at least that its variations are included within the desired limits.
For this purpose, recourse can be had to the arrangement shown in the drawing, in which the brushes 3 and 4 are actuated in the opposite direction by the threaded shafts set in rotation by a reversible electric motor 6, the circuit of which is controlled by titi contact 7 actuated by the armature 10 of the electromagnet 8 and maintained by a spring 11 in its neutral position when the current flowing through the primary P has its normal value; the electromagnet 8 is excited by the secondary 9 of the initial measurement transformer which is traversed by the current which circulates in the primary P.
The current variations in the primary (which correspond to the variations in the secondary k99) cause the displacement of the contact 7 and consequently the actuation of the motor 6 and the displacement of the brushes in the direction necessary to compensate for the variation itself. It is useful if the brushes are arranged so as to insert a resistance or an impedance between the adjacent pads during the passage of the brushes from one pad to another.
The provision described by way of example can be modified as appropriate or replaced by others achieving the same goal.
In the case of polyphase furnaces, each phase can be regulated independently of the others by a device of the type described.
