Device for making the heat state of the current paths of electrical machines clear. The object of the invention is a device for identifying the heat condition of the current paths of electrical machines, in particular their windings.
Some electrical machines, such as electrical vehicle engines, electrical welding and heating machines, etc., are often overloaded during operation. Brief overloads are generally permitted. But especially with. electrical heating machines, a temporary overload can hardly be avoided at all, since such devices do not have to be dimensioned for the largest (rarely occurring) heating cross-sections, but for a more frequent maximum cross-section in order to avoid unnecessarily large machines.
However, if an overload that is per se permissible from the cold state is repeated in excessively short intervals, this leads to damage to the windings.
The ammeter usually used shows the current consumption, but not the heat condition of the windings. With its help, the admissibility of a new overload cannot be recognized.
Thermocouples and the like are too sensitive to the rough handling such machines are subjected to. Also, they are often hardly attachable; - Thermocouples are also very expensive and too sensitive.
The thermal controller of the present invention is cheap, simple and robust. Its effect is based on the well-known phenomenon that some colors, especially those made from certain metal compounds, change their hue when the temperature changes. For example, the red color of the red mercury iodide turns quite sharply into yellow at around 126, while the red color reappears when it cools.
A glass flux (enamel) colored red or yellow with iron compounds is black-brown when the temperature is close to red heat and changes from dark brown to red or yellow when it cools down, with the final color only at around 140 to, depending on the composition of the flux 180 appears. When heated, the color is reversed again. Some cobalt or nickel compounds also vary greatly in color when the temperature changes.
Fig. 1 of the drawing now shows an exemplary embodiment for a control device making this color change usable. The two plug contacts a, a are connected by a plate b. This plate is now adjusted according to cross section and resistance in such a way that it reaches the temperature causing the color change of a layer covering it when the parts of the current path to be protected have reached the permissible limit temperature.
For example, the plate can show a cross c or another image on a cold H- J, same-colored but unchangeable background, which, previously invisible, becomes visible as a yellow image on a red background when the limit temperature is reached (Fig . 2).
A glass plate d covers the reporting plate. Through holes f that can be covered by means of a ring slide a and through corresponding perforation of the closing ring g or through a different control of the heat permeability of the envelope of b, it can be achieved that the plate b and the parts to be protected receive the same heating and cooling times. The plate then shows the state of the winding or the like, i.e. also the permissibility of any new overload, at any time.
In machines regulated with a plug, such as, for example, many types of electrical welding and heating machines, the plug according to FIG. 1 simply replaces the one previously used; in other cases only an interruption of the line is necessary, which is closed again by the plug.
But it is also possible to make several Tem temperatures recognizable through the device. For example, the bottom of the plate b (Fig. 1) could be of a color that only beats at a higher temperature than that showing the picture. Then a second temperature is displayed by changing the background of the picture.
Another example is shown in Fig. 3 and 4. The current path in the detector is a strip with a cross-section that changes in the direction of the current. Here, with the small band cross-section, starting with a small load, the heated band length will also grow with increasing load, so that, for example, the numbers of fields I to VII can appear one after the other. Here, too, by comparing the thermal permeability of an envelope, equality in terms of time can be achieved with the part of the current path to be controlled.
However, different colors that respond at different temperatures can also enable a step measurement. In such a form, the device then also acts as a simple, inert ammeter with a step-by-step scale for approximate current measurement.
If the ink carrier is designed with a small Ila.se and a large surface, the device can also act as a well-damped ammeter for approximate measurements. The amperage corresponding to the heat level can then appear as an image.
The result is a measuring instrument that shows only approximate values but is cheap, sufficient for many purposes and insensitive to mechanical vibrations and the like.
