Description
Title of the Patent Desktop calendar erected by wooden base and wooden silhouette cutout, and clipped by wooden silhouette cutout-cu nn-magnets Statement of Entitlement The applicants are both inventors and the sole inventors of the subject matter.
Inventors' Information Siu Fung Keung Chung Yan Cheung Abstract A desktop monthly calendar comprising twleve individual sheets of paper is erected by standing on a groove of a wooden base, and is backed by one or at least one wooden silhouette cutout which stands on another groove of the wooden base and behind the calendar. The individual paper sheets of the calendar are clipped together with magnetization by two wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnets which are placed on the front and at the back of the calendar respectively. (77 words) 4 Claims, 2 Drawing Sheets Background of the Invention Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a desktop calendar, and more particularly, to the way it is erected by standing on a wooden base, backed by one or at least one wooden silhouette cutout, and clipped together by two wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnets.
Background of the Invention Conventional desktop calendars consist of three parts: a calendar, a metal spiral, and a cardboard paper stand which forms a triangular base to be placed on the desk.
Such calendars are spiral bound by metal spirals and erected by cardboard paper stands. To manufacturers, Date Recue/Date Received 2023-01-31
2 the combined costs of metal spiral, cardboard paper stand and spiral binding is more than the printing cost of calendar itself. If manufacturers need to make changes of calendar details after production, it is costly to remedy due to the way conventional desktop calendars are produced.
Also, calendars become outdated after year's end. To discard a conventional desktop calendar means to throw out not only the calendar itself, but also the metal spiral and the cardboard paper stand. This is considered wasteful from the perspective of environmental protection.
In order to solve the problems mentioned above, the present invention provides an alternative way to erect the calendar without the need for spiral binding and cardboard paper stands which are commonly found in conventional desktop calendars. First, the calendar of the present invention stands on the groove of the wooden base and is thus erected.
Second, the calendar is backed by one or at least one wooden silhouette cutout which also stands on the groove on the wooden base and behind the calendar. Third, the calendar comprises twelve individual sheets of paper; these twelve sheets are clipped together by the magnetization of two wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnets which are placed on the front and at the back of the calendar respectively. When the wooden base, silhouette cutouts and cutout-cum-magnets are used together as described above, the calendar itself can stand erect.
They replace the functions of spiral binding and cardboard paper stand featured in conventional desktop calendars.
Also, the wooden base, silhouette cutouts and cutout-cum-magnets of the present invention are reusable not only after year's end, but also in many years to come.
Customers only need to discard the outdated calendar and buy a calendar of a new year. They can reuse the wooden base, silhouette cutouts and cutout-cum-magnets after year's end.
Manufacturers only need to produce calendars of a new year, and re-print and replace the specific calendar month in question if revisions need to be made after production.
Apart from the practical function of calendars, the present invention also serves ornamental purpose, and makes room for creativity to both the inventors and customers.
Inventors can make different silhouette styles according to their creative design or at the request of customers. Customers can place wooden silhouette cutouts on the grooves of the wooden base in creative ways, and rearrange them anytime as they please. The calendar is clipped together by the wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnets, with one placed on the front of the calendar 4, and another one at the back of the calendar 5 in FIG. 2. In FIG. 2, there is one or at least one wooden silhouette cutout 6 which stands on the groove 7 behind the back of the calendar 1, forming an upright support to the Date Recue/Date Received 2023-01-31 calendar. As shown in FIG. 1, wooden silhouette cutouts 8 & 9 stand on other grooves of the wooden base 10 for ornamental purpose.
In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the calendar 1 is in a monthly format, which comprises twelve months of the year, printed respectively on twelve individual sheets of paper. As illustrated in FIG. 1 & FIG. 2, the number of grooves on the wooden base should be at least two. One groove 2, whose length and width is engraved to fit twelve paper sheets of the calendar, is designated to the placement of the calendar 1. Another groove 7, whose length and width is engraved to fit the wooden silhouette cutout, is designated to the placement of the wooden silhouette cutout 6 which backs the calendar 1.
Apart from groove 2 and groove 7, more grooves on the wooden base 10 can be added for other wooden silhouette cutouts of different designs 8 & 9 which serve ornamental purpose.
The grooves 2, 7 & 10 are spaced out on the wooden base, so that the calendar 1 is effectively erected by the wooden silhouette cutout 6 behind it, and the ornamental wooden silhouette cutouts 8 & 9 can be placed on the grooves 10 to create an artwork with 3D
effect on the wooden base.
As shown in FIG. 3, each wooden silhouette cutout is carved in a way which has a stylish design on top 11, and a support base at the bottom 12. When the cutout stands on the groove of the wooden base, its support base 12 will be invisible since it is totally subsided in the groove.
In FIG. 4, the wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnets 13 are used to clip the individual paper sheets of the calendar together. Each wooden silhouette cutout-cum-magnet is carved with a stylish design, has a magnet 14 attached to it, but which does not have a support base 12 as in the wooden silhouette cutout shown in FIG. 3.
The description mentioned above and the illustrated drawings on the preferred embodiments of the present invention is provided for the purpose of exemplifying. They are not exhaustive, and are not intended to limit the present invention to the described embodiments, the usage of the invention, materials used and the designs thereof. For example, the present invention is a desktop calendar, but it can also be used as a name card holder or a photo holder. Wood is Date Recue/Date Received 2023-01-31
