Abstract

The SCRAMMBLE Game is based on guessing a co-player's hidden word.
The minimum number of players is two, and the maximum number is infinite.
The game is composed of a bag (or box) of letter and blank tiles (aims)(figure 1), another bag (or box) of guessing (marks) tokens (figure2) and a board for each player (figure 3), eventually with an inclined small board (figure 4).
The game can also could be played on a computer/smartphone/tablet or an electronic device, via an app (software application).

Description

Description:
1. The SCRAMMBLE board game description:
The SCRAMMBLE game is based on guessing the hidden (secret) word of your co-player.
The minimum number of players is two, and the maximum number is infinite.
Each player has to compose a hidden word, and that hidden word has to be guessed by the other player(s). Meantime, the player also has to guess his opponent hidden word.
At the beginning of the game, the players have to follow the general rules, or to decide some custom ones.
The game board ¨ figure 3 ¨ could be extended infinitely, until the competitors guess the hidden secret word.
The winner is the one who guesses the secret word in the least number of tried attempts. If two players have the same number, then the winner is the one with the longest word. If they have the same length, then the winner is the one with no blank. If all of them didn't use a blank, then the winner is the one who used the most consonants in his word. If they have the same number, then it is a draw.
2. General rules:
a. The game is composed of a bag (or box) of letters, printed on little squares on one side (figure 1), some blank ones, with no letter inscribed, a bag (or box) of some same sized squares painted in two colours (figure 1), white and red, which are used in the process of guessing the words, a game board (figure 3), with an inclined board cover (figure 3a) or (optional) an inclined board display (figure 4), where the hidden word is composed and hidden. The bag of letters have the specific percentage of use for each language, the number of blanks should be sufficient for 4 players, same for the white and red tokens.
b. The word composition:
- the word can be composed blindly by extracting a specific number of letters from the bag.
That specific number of letters by default is 10, but could be changed by the custom rules.
- or the word can be custom made by each player, who then picks the chosen letters from the bag.
- after the word is made or chosen, then the tokens are arranged on the hidden board, not visible to the other players, or are placed them upside down, in the word arrangement.
- the word can be any length (up to ten letters) or a specific one, for example seven letters, established at the beginning of the game among the players.
- the word should be at singular mode, the verb only at infinitive or participle, proper names are not allowed, the word should be a minimum of 3 letters.
- in case a player cannot build a word with a minimum of 3 letters, then he can swap or pick another 3 letters. And so doing can be penalized 1 point (one point is a row in the guessing attempts)..
If again he cannot build his word then he can pick (or swap) another 3 letter tokens, which results in him penalized by 3 points.
- if a player wants a blank, which could be any letter, then he is penalized by 3 points. Only one blank per player can be used in the word composition, and the blank should not be used in an Date Recue/Date Received 2022-05-31 ambiguous way, that means the same blank can have multiple meanings, and the word too. For example, the word "to en", the blank could be a "k" or a "t", so the words could be "token" or "totem".
c. The guessing procedure:
- the first player picks ten letters (or the specific number which the players agreed to at the beginning of the game) and then arranges them on his board, on the first line.
The second player places on the same board, on the same line white and red tokens, a white token for each guessed letter, but not in the right place, and a red token for each guessed letter in the right place in the word. For example, the hidden second player word is "direct", and the first player put on the first line the letters "aeiouy".
So, the second player puts on the right of the first line only two white tokens, for the letters "e" and "i".
- the second player puts on his board's first line his letters, after that he'll receive the answer tokens from the third player and so on.
- if a player can't guess the word, he could use a blank, but then is be penalized by 5 points. He can use only one blank for the guessing procedure.
- the winner will be the one who has the smallest number of points, i.e.
the sum of the row numbers plus the penalties. For example a player guesses the word in 9 rows (tries), and he has a blank token for word composing, 3 points. So his total is 12 points.
- There is an example on the attached figure 5, "SCRAMMBLE board game-play example".
3. Custom rules a. The word composing procedure - for the blind version of picking the word letters, if the word is bigger than 5 letters the player could obtain extra points, for example one point for each extra letter.
- the player can have a one time free (or payed with 1, 2 or 3 points) option of calling "help"
from a specific other player, or from a dictionary.
- each player can have a free blank, which he can use for the word composition or for the guessing procedure.
- once the word is composed, the player should announce the length of his word.
- the words can be only on a chosen theme, for example only geographic, or technical, or nature ¨ plants or animals ¨ category.
b. The not use of a letter, in the word. As in the example of a game-play, figure 5, row 8, a player could not use any token for certain positions (letters of the word). That fact is not like he used blanks, so he'll not be penalized.
c. The players could agree for specific details of the game, before the game starts (for example calling the number of letters of his word).
4. The APP variant. The SCRAMMBLE game can be played on a computer/tablet/smartphone and other electronic devices, via an app (application).
