Abstract
A protective insert for protection of wires while penetrating the wall covering to allow for accurate center location of electrical utility boxes. The insert has holes spaced according to the receiving holes for outlets, light fixtures, or the like. The insert is to be installed with fasteners in the according holes and screwed into place. The insert can be removed after use for subsequent marking or left in place until fixture installation; while the insert is left in place it provides protection from debris or other damage.
Description
Description: Field of the invention This invention pertains to protective inserts and markers used to locate electrical utility boxes during installation of wall covering on framing. During the installation of wall covering such as drywall or other similar wall coverings which attach to framing in which electrical utility boxes would be covered. It is necessary to cut the covering material to allow for installation of associated fixture into the electrical utility box.
Background of the invention When wall covering such as drywall or similar products like wallboard, or other wall covering panels are installed, the wall covering is secured to the framing system using screw, nails or adhesive. During this time, the wall covering will have to be cut to expose the electrical utility boxes to install the corresponding hardware.
During installation of the wall coverings cutting process, and after the cutting process, there is a likelihood of wires getting damaged due to the heat of the tools used, improper measurements, user error, and pinching of wires between wall covering and framing material.
Present manual methods of installing wall covering over electrical boxes include measuring the vertical and horizontal distance, pressing the wall covering to indent the shape of the electrical utility box, or pressing the wall covering onto the electrical utility box that has been previously marked on the edge with pen or marker.
Present methods proposed to install wall coverings over electrical utility boxes include insertable pointed markers, magnetic locators, and templates to guide cutting tools. See PAT #:

Therefore, it is an object of this invention to provide a combination of protection of the wires in the electrical utility box, location of electrical utility box, and quick connection for quick operating pace. The insert is designed to be left in place after cutting the perimeter of the electrical utility box, it may be removed to allow usage at subsequent electrical boxes.
Date Recue/Date Received 2021-09-23 Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiment Referring to figure 1 through 11 of the drawings.
During the construction process there are standard framing systems 7 used in which mounted electrical utility boxes 6 are covered.
The preferred embodiment 1 uses fasteners 5 to attached through 2 to securely attached to the electrical utility box.
Once installed 8 the wall covering may be put into place and screwed until the spike 4 penetrates the drywall.
The drywall then would be cut around the perimeter of the electrical utility box to allow the drywall to sit flush and the insert can be left in place like figure 11, or removed for subsequent use; if left in place, it allows for reduced damage and debris in the electrical utility box 6.
