Description

DUVET ASSEMBLY
Technical Field [0001] The present disclosure relates, generally, to a duvet assembly. More particularly, the present disclosure pertains to a duvet assembly having a duvet and duvet covers attached to the duvet.
Background Information and Prior Art [0001] Changing the covers of a duvet or a comforter is essential to maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the bedding. Additionally, it has been long known that the changing, arranging, and inserting duvet or other comforters inside a cover is a difficult and time consuming task. The problem gets exaggerated for elderly persons or for people with disabilities.
Typically, changing of the cover involves lifting the duvet/comforter and inserting and positioning the duvet/comforter inside the cover, aligning the duvet/comforter along the four corners of the cover, and tying the duvet/comforter along the four corners of the cover with a plurality of strings, which is a laborious and time consuming task. A further issue which results from the typical duvet is that the edges of the duvet tend to become misaligned from the edges of the duvet cover, resulting in uneven spread, or clumping, of the duvet inside the duvet cover.
[0002] A number of inventors have attempted to solve this problem by redesigning the pouch or pocket-like duvet cover to make it easier to insert the duvet as disclosed in Canadian patent references CA304822, CA2639258, CA2874145, CA2712997 and CA3039019 and US
patent references US20190099017, US20200060447, US20180146805) or by way of affixing a cover sheet to the duvet cover, as disclosed in Canadian patent reference CA2980864.
However, none of these solutions provide the simplicity, speed of installation and consistency of spread of the duvet inside 1 of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 the cover because each approach requires the insertion of the duvet into the cover, the finding of corners (where ties are available) and the spreading of the duvet evenly within the cover.
[0003] Chinese patent reference CN202489646U describes a sandwich-like quilt and a quilt cover.
The quilt cover includes an upper layer having a zipper along its edges and a lower cover having a zipper along its edges. Further, the quilt includes a pair of zippers along edges of upper surface and lower surface. The quilt cover is assembled with the quilt by engaging the zipper of the upper layer with the zipper of the upper surface of the quilt, and engaging the zipper of the lower layer with the zipper of the lower layer. As the zippers are disposed along all the edges of the quilt assembly, a portion of zippers comes into contact with the face or body of the user, which is undesirable.
[0004] Japanese patent reference JP2002125822A discloses a sandwich-like quilt assembly having a quilt and a quilt cover. The quilt cover has an upper cover adapted to be removably engaged with the quilt and a lower cover adapted to be removably engaged with the quilt and the upper cover. The upper cover is engaged or attached with the quilt by engaging fasteners disposed along the four edges of the quilt and the upper cover. The lower cover is engaged with the quilt by engaging the fasteners disposed along the three edges of the quilt and the lower cover.
Also, the lower cover is engaged with the upper cover by folding the lower cover and fastening reaming edge of the lower cover to the upper cover. As the upper edge of the quilt is not fastened to the lower cover, the edges of the quilt tend to become misaligned from the edges of the lower cover, resulting in uneven spread, or clumping, of the quilt inside the quilt cover.

Detailed Description of Invention
[0021] Referring to FIG. 1, a duvet assembly 100 having a duvet 200 and a duvet cover 300 is shown. The duvet 200 is a thick quilted like blanket, usually stuffed with down, goose feathers, cotton or simulated down in the form of synthetic fibers, for facilitating a storage of heat within the duvet 200. As shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the duvet 200 includes a first face 202 (i.e. top face 202) of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 and a second face 204 (i.e. bottom face 204) disposed/arranged opposite to the first face 202 and extending substantially parallel to the top face 202. The first face 202 is defined by a first fabric layer, while the second face 204 is defined by a second fabric layer that is connected to the first fabric layer along edges and defines a space therebetween to receive the material, such as, down, goose feathers, cotton or simulated down in the form of synthetic fibers. In an embodiment the first face 202 and the second face 204 may be stitched along the periphery after stuffing the material inside the duvet. Further, the duvet 200 includes four edges, i.e., a first edge 206 (i.e. top edge 206), a second edge 208 (i.e. bottom edge 208) arranged substantially parallel and opposite to the first edge 206, a first side edge 210 extending from the first edge 206 to the second edge 208, and a second side edge 212 extending from the first edge 206 to the second edge 208 and arranged opposite and substantially parallel to the first side edge 210.
[0022] Further, as shown in FIG. 1, the duvet cover 300 includes a pair of cover sheets, 302, 304 to cover of the duvet 200 for maintaining the cleanliness of the duvet 200 and to prevent deposition of any dirt or dust on the duvet 200. The pair of cover sheets 302, 304 includes a first cover sheet 302 (i.e. the upper cover sheet 302) adapted to be disposed over the first face 202 of the duvet 200 and partially cover the first face 202, and a second cover sheet 304 (lower cover sheet 304) adapted to completely cover the second face 204 of the duvet 200 and partially cover the first face 202. The first cover sheet 302 is adapted to be removably engaged with the first face 202 of the duvet 200, while the second cover sheet 304 is adapted to be removably engaged with the second face 204 of the duvet 200 and the first cover sheet 302.
[0023] To facilitate a removable engagement of the first cover sheet 302 with the duvet 200, the duvet assembly 100 includes a first zipper 310. As shown in FIG. 1, the first zipper 310 includes a 6 of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 first zipper track 312 attached to the first face 202 of the duvet 200 and a second zipper track 314 attached to the first cover sheet 302. The first zipper track 312 runs/extends along partial lengths the first side edge 210 and the second side edge 212 of the duvet 200. Also, the first zipper track 312 extends along an entire length of the bottom edge 208 of the duvet 200 and includes a first end 316 connected to the first side edge 210 and disposed at a distance from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200. Similarly, a second end 318 of the first zipper track 312 is connected to the second side edge 212 of the duvet 200 and is located at a distance from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200.
Accordingly, the first end 316 and the second end 318 of the first zipper track 312 are arranged substantially opposite to each other. Further, the first zipper track 312 is stitched to the first face 202 and extends outwardly of the first face 202.
[0024] Similar to the first zipper track 312, the second zipper track 314 extends along entire lengths of a first edge 322 (i.e. first side edge 322), a second edge 324 (i.e. second side edge 324), and a third edge 326 (i.e. bottom edge 326) of the first cover sheet 302. As shown in FIG. 3, in an embodiment, the second zipper track 314 is attached inwardly of the first side edge 322, the second side edge 324 and the bottom edge 326 such that the first cover sheet 302 defines a flap 330 (i.e. a first flap 330) extending over the second zipper track 314 to cover the first zipper 310 in an assembly of the first cover sheet 302 with the duvet 200. In some implementations, the second zipper track 314 is attached to the first side edge 322, the second side edge 324 and the bottom edge 326 and may extend inwardly or outwardly of the edges 322, 324, 326. Moreover, the first cover sheet 302 includes a fourth edge 332 (i.e. top edge 332) disposed opposite and substantially parallel to the bottom edge 326. It may be appreciated that the length of the first cover sheet 302 is shorter than the length of the duvet 200. Accordingly, in an assembly of the first cover sheet 302 with the 7 of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 duvet 200, the top edge 332 of the first cover sheet 302 is located at a distance from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200.
[0025] Referring again to FIG. 1, the second cover sheet 304 includes a first portion 350 and a folded portion 352 disposed partially above the first portion 350 and defining a pocket 354 therebetween to receive an upper portion 220 of the duvet 200. The first portion 350 is adapted to cover the second face 204 (i.e. bottom face 204) of the duvet 200, while the folded portion 352 is adapted to cover a portion of the top face 202 of the duvet 200 and engages with the first cover sheet 302. Accordingly, in an assembly of the second cover sheet 304, the upper portion 220 of the duvet 200 is disposed inside the pocket 354. Further, the pocket 354 is formed by stitching the side edges of the folded portion 352 with corresponding side edges of the first portion 350. Also, in an assembly, the first portion 350 is removably engaged with the duvet 200, while the folded portion 352 is removably engaged with the top edge 332 of the first cover sheet 302.
[0026] To enable the removable engagement of the first portion 350 with the duvet 200, the duvet assembly 100 includes a second zipper 400. As shown in FIG. 1, the second zipper 400 includes a third zipper track 402 attached to the second face 204 of the duvet 200 and a fourth zipper track 404 attached to the first portion 350 of the second cover sheet 304. The third zipper track 402 runs/extends along partial lengths the first side edge 210 and the second side edge 212 of the duvet 200. Also, the third zipper track 402 extends along an entire length of the bottom edge 208 of the duvet 200 and includes a first end 406 connected to the first side edge 210 and disposed at a distance from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200. Similarly, a second end 408 of the third zipper track 402 is connected to the second side edge 212 of the duvet 200 and is located at a distance from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200. Accordingly, the first end 406 and the second end 408 of the third zipper 8 of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 track 402 are arranged substantially opposite to each other. Further, the third zipper track 402 is stitched to the second face 204 and extends outwardly of the second face 204.
[0027] As shown in FIG. 1 , the fourth zipper track 404 extends along a partial length of a first edge 360 (i.e. first side edge 360), a second edge 362 (i.e. second side edge 362), and extends along an entire length of a third edge 364 (i.e. bottom edge 364) of the first portion 350 of the second cover sheet 304. As shown, a first end 370 of the fourth zipper track 404 is arranged proximate to the first side edge 360 and is disposed adjacent to a free edge 372 of the folded portion 352, while a second end 374 of the fourth zipper track 404 is arranged proximate to the second side edge 362 and is arranged adjacent to the free edge 372 of the folded portion 352. In an embodiment, the first end 370 and the second end 374 of the fourth zipper track 404 are disposed outside of the pocket 354.
Additionally, in an embodiment shown in FIG. 4, as with the second zipper track 314, the fourth zipper track 404 is attached inwardly of the first side edge 360, the second side edge 362 and the bottom edge 364 such that the first portion 350 defines a flap 380 (i.e. a second flap 380) that extends over the fourth zipper track 404 and covers the second zipper 400 in an assembly of the second cover sheet 304 with the duvet 200. In some implementations, the fourth zipper track 404 is attached to the first side edge 360, the second side edge 362 and the bottom edge 364 and may extend inwardly or outwardly of the edges 360, 362, 364.
[0028] Additionally, as shown in FIG. 1, the duvet assembly 100 includes a third zipper 500 having a fifth zipper track 502 attached to the folded portion 352 and extending along an entire length of the free edge 372, and a sixth zipper track 504 attached to the top edge 332 of the first cover sheet 302.
Also, as shown in FIG. 5, the fifth zipper track 502 is attached inwardly of the free edge 372 of the folded portion 352, thereby defining a flap 382 (i.e. the third flap 382) extending outwardly and over 9 of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01 the fifth zipper track 502 to cover the third zipper 500 in an assembly of the fifth zipper track 502 with the sixth zipper track 504. Also, in an embodiment, the fifth zipper track is disposed inside the pocket 354. In an embodiment, instead of the third zipper 500, the duvet assembly 100 may include a button system (not shown) having a plurality of buttons attached to one of the folded portion 352 and the first cover sheet 302, and a plurality of button holes or button snaps defined by other of the folded portion 352 and the first cover sheet 302.
[0029] A method of assembling the duvet cover 300 to the duvet 200 is now explained. For facilitating an easy assembly, the user may spread the duvet 200 on a flat surface like a bed or a floor with the first face 202 of the duvet 200 facing upwards. Thereafter, the user may couple/engage/attach the first cover sheet 302 to the duvet 200. For so doing, the user may position/arrange the first cover sheet 302 over the first face 202 of the duvet 200 such that the first side edge 322, the second side edge 324, and the bottom edge 326 of the first cover sheet 302 aligns with the first side edge 210, the second side edge 212, and the bottom edge 208 of the duvet 200, while the top edge 332 of the first cover sheet 302 is located at an offset from the top edge 206 of the duvet 200. For facilitating the coupling, the first zipper track 312 is attached and interlocked with the second zipper track 314 using a hook. Thereafter, the duvet 200 is turned over such that the second face 204 of the duvet 200 is positioned/arranged facing upwardly. The second cover sheet 304 is now positioned on the second face 204 of the duvet 200 such that the first portion 350 covers the second face 204. Accordingly, the first side edge 360, the second side edge 362, and the bottom edge 364 of the first portion 350 of the second cover sheet 304 aligns with the first side edge 210, the second side edge 212, and the bottom edge 208 of the duvet 200, respectively.
of 16 Date Recue/Date Received 2020-12-01
[0030] Subsequently, the second cover sheet 304 is engaged with the duvet 200 by engaging and interlocking the third zipper track 402 with the fourth zipper track 404.
Thereafter, the upper portion 220 of the duvet 200 is inserted inside the pocket 354 such that the folded portion 352 faces/covers the upper portion 220 of the duvet 200. Accordingly, the folded portion 352 is disposed facing/covering a portion of the top face 202 of the duvet 200. Subsequently or otherwise, the duvet 200 may be turned over, and the fifth zipper track 502 is engaged and interlocked with the sixth zipper track 504 to engage/attach the folded portion 352 to the first cover sheet 302. As the upper portion 220 is inserted inside the pocket 354 and the folded portion 352 is attached with the first cover sheet 302, while the edges 208, 210, 212 of the duvet 200 are in engagement with the first portion 350 and the first cover sheet 302, the upper portion 220 remains within the pocket 354 and the side edges 210, 212 of the duvet 200 remain aligned with the side edges of the folded portion 352. For facilitating the removal of the duvet cover 300 from the duvet 200 the three zippers 310, 400, 500 are opened and the cover sheets 302, 304 are easily removed for washing and cleaning purpose. Further, as the duvet cover 300 includes two separate cover sheets 302, 304, it is easier to wash the duvet cover 300 as the cover sheets 302, 304 can be washed separately.
[0031] The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present disclosure have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present disclosure to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present disclosure and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present disclosure and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
