Abstract

Réhabilitation métallurgique des résidus dextraction minière de sables bitumineux. Une anhydrite naturelle (sulfate de calcium anhydré (CaSO4)) localement abondant pulvérisé rend les résidus fins mûrs colloïdaux « issus » de lextraction minière des sables bitumineux de lAlberta suffisamment solides pour porter des charges. Les réactions ont lieu au niveau dun pH légèrement alcalin de 20o C et dune pression atmosphérique de 101,3 kilopascals. Un brevet couronné de succès précédent utilisait de la chaux vive et dautres utilisaient du gypse (CaSO4/2H2O hydraté) et du gypse calciné (CaSO4.1/2H2O) en tant que floculant. Diverses concentrations de 0,5 % à 12 % danhydrite et de chaux vive (MgO) aux fins de comparaison ont été ajoutées à 50 g de résidus fins mûrs, ce qui entraîne le raidissement à une pâte ferme en lespace de quelques minutes ou jours. Tous les temps de réaction étaient considérablement plus rapides après le séchage au préalable des résidus fins mûrs pour 96 heures; les concentrations en réactif requises étaient également inférieures. La composition minéralogique des réactifs et les produits ont tous été mis à lessai avec la diffraction des rayons X. Les réactions sont irréversibles, donnant à certains un fluide libre et un substrat porteur de charges rigide.
